It was more than a fair long weekend for Trade Fair who sired highly-talented Proceedwithcaution to a convincing victory in the Clubs Super Saturday Hcp (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Proceedwithcaution (4g by Trade Fair – Kinchica by King Of Kings) won the Dayana Plate (2000m) and LR Belmont Classic (2200m) during last year’s winter season and resumed with a second to crack sprinter Dawn Approach at Ascot on January 10.
He then finished 9th to Low Tide on January 31 but trainer Geoffrey Van De Molen, who races the gelding with Nikita Richards, admitted he may have left him short on fitness second-up. “There are no big plans, we will attempt to work him through the grades. I’m not convinced he’s an out-and-out stayer.
“It may have been the class of horse he beat last preparation that allowed him to get those distances. Only time will tell. At the same time, I would like to get him over a trip again at some point.”
Proceedwithcaution was bred by Kentville proprietor Rick Hart and cost a mere $750 as a foal at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions Autumn Sale. He is the penultimate foal of Kinchica who retired a maiden after 14 starts in the Great Southern.
Trade Fair (GB) stands at Alwyn Park for a service fee of $6,050 (inc gst). His English based galloper The Yank doubled up in the space of a week at Wolverhampton on Monday.
