Race 1 – 1:02PM TABTOUCH MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Liked the latest barrier trial performance from CANDIJAY and she ‘s set to give this a shake on debut. Began well and found the front in a Lark Hill 21/10 heat and stretched subsequent Ascot winner Chatter Session, with 4.1 lengths back to third. Should rail, lead and take some catching. The debut effort from KEEP IT HUSH was better than it reads and the form out of that race reads well. Major player. First-upper LOST CROWN stretched out well to win his Belmont 28/10 trial, while no surprise to see MARLINI run a race on debut after showing glimpses at trials.
Tips: 7. CANDIJAY win.
4. KEEP IT HUSH
1. LOST CROWN
Race 2 – 1:37PM GLOUCESTER PARK TRIP NUMBER 23 MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Connections have waited a while with 5YO first-starter OIHANA, but their patience looks set to pay dividends. Produced a real eye-catcher in her Belmont 14/10 trial and followed up with a solid Belmont 28/10 heat result. Likely settles rearwards from the draw, but still expecting to see her running on with strength late. EXIT STAGE RIGHT should be ready to peak at his third run this prep. Not a lot went right for FAIRER AMERICA on debut, so keep him safe, while likely leader VICTORY CITY started favourite at her Geraldton debut and the tongue tie going on should assist.
Suggested: 4. OIHANA win.
5. EXIT STAGE RIGHT
3. FAIRER AMERICA
9. VICTORY CITY
Race 3 – 2:12PM HLB WEALTH MANAGEMENT MAIDEN HANDICAP (1500 METRES)
FINAL CHILL had no luck at his Bunbury 31/10 debut and this looks a nice option for him. Confident he would’ve finished at least two lengths closer last time, when encountering significant traffic issues, and he gives the impression the rise to 1500m suits. Pateman on is a good booking also. PRIZED NEMESIS can certainly find a way to get beat, evident by his $1.70 defeat at Mt Barker last Sunday. Still has the best form in the race and must warrant consideration. Forget POWDERBELLE went around last time and she can improve sharply, while didn’t mind the latest effort from TRILLIONAIRE.
Suggested: 4. FINAL CHILL each way.
4. FINAL CHILL
2. PRIZED NEMESIS
Race 4 – 2:50PM TRENTHAM ESTATE WINES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Terrific option for MINIKA and she looks one of the best on the card. Has competed against much stronger opposition than this all prep and prior to her latest Ascot disappointment, she had recorded four top-three finishes, with all the form around her stacking up. Has a class edge and with even luck, should salute. TRADE PRIZE wasn’t too bad first up at Ascot and can elevate into the top three in this. Best form reads well. ALL THAT SIZZLE has a strong York profile and will be hard to catch if she leads, while fellow first-upper ROCKER CHICK is capable of making her presence felt also.
Suggested: 1. MINIKA win.
2. TRADE PRIZE
6. ALL THAT SIZZLE
4. ROCKER CHICK
Race 5 – 3:30PM COMMUNITY TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Key scratchings have taken some shine off this event, but this does open the door nicely for resuming 3YO MISS ELLMYA. Did a top job in her four-start initial racing campaign, recording two Ascot wins, and looked in good order when placing behind subsequent Ascot winner Mankind in a Lark Hill 21/10 trial. Taking on some seasoned campaigners, but should get the job done. FOXY ROYALE was brave as a $61 pop at Ascot last Saturday and looks well placed in this grade. Both her and PASAJERO have won this track/distance recently and must be considered, while TRILLI FILLY is next best.
Suggested: 3. MISS ELLMYA win.
3. MISS ELLMYA
1. FOXY ROYALE
9. TRILLI FILLY
Race 6 – 4:00PM BOULEVARD FINE JEWELLERY HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
One of the more competitive events on York Cup Day and is does look set up nicely for WILDONBROOK. Was tested over this trip for the first time at Northam last start and was rock solid in a high-tempo affair. That run provides her with the right platform to launch and apprentice Bonnie Palise handles her quite well. The much-improved ALL SQUARE should find the front again and attempt to dictate terms, and is a bit stiff not to have her won her last three. STARTTHEFRIAR is unbeaten at York and was unsuited in a walk-and-sprint affair first up, while JENABEL should be peaking third up.
Suggested: 7. WILDONBROOK win.
4. ALL SQUARE
Race 7 – 4:35PM HAIRITAGE HAIR BY LISA HANDICAP (1500 METRES)
DALGARANGA promised plenty early, but has so far yet to deliver, however, this looks the sort of race he could impact. Has been ridden with a sit so far this prep, but expecting more attacking tactics with 4kg claimer Laqdar Ramoly on board, and if he rolls along out in front, Dalgaranga could pinch this. FETCH MORE AMMO won her two back and will find this more suitable than the line-up he tackled at Northam last time. REACTION continues to compete well and has to rate among the main fancies, while BLACK SMUGGLER is always a contender racing on his home deck.
Suggested: 5. DALGARANGA each way.
2. FETCH MORE AMMO
9. BLACK SMUGGLER
Race 8 – 5:10PM TABTOUCH YORK CUP (1920 METRES)
Quite a few hopes in an even York Cup, but confident BROTHER’S KEEPER will prove very hard to beat. Liked him second up at Ascot last Saturday and he boxed on well into third, however, he looks set to elevate third up dropping 4.5kg in a race which should deliver a more suitable genuine tempo. Is a winner this track/distance and maps to advantage also. NO SAY IN IT is the class runner and comes through a hot Northam Cup. Will drift back and charge late. As will WITNESS IN COURT, who is racing in career-best form this prep, while possible leader TWENTYTHREE RED is a significant weight dropper.
Suggested: 3. BROTHER’S KEEPER each way.
3. BROTHER’S KEEPER
1. NO SAY IN IT
2. WITNESS IN COURT
10. TWENTYTHREE RED
Race 9 – 5:45PM VOLUNTEERS OF YORK RACING HANDICAP (1920 METRES)
Tough on-pacer I’M A LOVE MAN can be pretty hard to catch, but this does look a suitable option for him. Has raced well at York in the past and will find this easier than the assignments he’s faced in town recently. Is he can roll along in front, or stalk a genuine tempo, he’s going to get his chance. TAKE IT LIKE A MAN went close here two back and had a mid-prep Belmont 28/10 trial in the meantime. Shouldn’t be too far away. CAPTAIN JACK is capable of bobbing up at odds, while LANGLEY is expected to improve sharply after his last-start Ascot disappointment.
Suggested: 2. I’M A LOVE MAN
2. I’M A LOVE MAN
3. TAKE IT LIKE A MAN
8. CAPTAIN JACK
