The Leg Up: Pinjarra Preview – Thursday 9 July 2020

Race 1 – 11:55AM SIGN STRATEGY MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

Surely this is the day for GIANT LEAP. Was remarkably gunned down late by Beat The Bro as a $1.35 fave first up, after looking home-and-hosed, but we are anticipating significant elevation with that hit-out under his belt. Nice horse in the making and this does look an easy kill for him. Liked the way HITCHINRAIL fought on under pressure in a three-way photo at Belmont 1/07. Good signs there and he looks a clear second pick in this. BOLSHOI GAL is 57 days between runs, but does perform well fresh and has some reasonable formlines, while SUN CHACEN looks the best of the rest.

Tips: 1-2-6-3
Suggested: 1. GIANT LEAP win.

1. GIANT LEAP
2. HITCHINRAIL
6. BOLSHOI GAL
3. SUN CHACEN

Race 2 – 12:34PM HYGAIN – FEEDING CHAMPIONS SINCE 1983 MAIDEN (2000 METRES)

Happy to be siding with LOVE STRIKES. Was ridden quietly over the mile at Northam 2/07 and made up a stack of late ground to finish only 1.6L from the second placegetter. Maps to enjoy an economical run from gate one and was solid in her only previous Pinjarra 2000m effort. COMPLETED, TUNIS, and MORSE come through the same 1600m Pinjarra 25/06 maiden, and all three appear ready to step up to this longer journey. Former eastern-stater Completed has a 2000m Kembla Grange placing to his name and that form holds up in this.

Tips: 9-2-10-3
Suggested: 9. LOVE STRIKES win.

9. LOVE STRIKES
2. COMPLETED
10. TUNIS
3. MORSE

Race 3 – 1:12PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR CLUB MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

Keen on ATTILA’S DREAM fresh. Ran some good races during his initial racing prep and was given a strong workout leading into this assignment when comfortably winning a Lark Hill 29/06 barrier trial. More than likely lands leader’s back in running and with Pike on should get every chance to break through from there. Fellow first-upper PULI will make things difficult though, looking really strong in his all-the-way Belmont 22/06 trial win. Shouldn’t be a maiden for too much longer. WICKLOW PRINCESS was robbed of victory by the fast-finishing Secret Statue last start and has to be a contender in this, while THE ANVIL has been racing competitively.

Tips: 2-1-8-3
Suggested: 2. ATTILA’S DREAM win.

2. ATTILA’S DREAM
1. PULI
8. WICKLOW PRINCESS
3. THE ANVIL

Race 4 – 1:47PM BOWRA & O’DEA FUNERAL DIRECTORS MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

Have been tracking BLAXEL ROSE closely at trials all year and expecting her to put in a big effort on debut. The stable has been patient with this 3YO filly and this looks a suitable first-up assignment, especially from a low draw with Pike booked. Can be a bit sluggish at the start, but with a clean getaway, she can settle midfield and work through her gears with strength late. SUPERLOVE has to be a major player, having shown a bit last prep and coming off a Lark Hill 29/06 trial win. Positive tactics anticipated and may even lead. DRAMA FREE was good in town behind a smart one first up, while HINDSIGHT BIAS and WISE CRACKER can challenge for a top four finish.

Tips: 11-8-1-7
Suggested: 11. BLAXEL ROSE win.

11. BLAXEL ROSE
8. SUPERLOVE
1. DRAMA FREE
7. WISE CRACKER

Race 5 – 2:27PM ELECTRICAL CONSULTANCY WA HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Thinking SEA WAIF can make a winning start to her campaign. Enjoyed an excellent initial racing preparation and liked the way she hit the line in a convincing Lark Hill 29/06 trial win. Should find the rail in front with a decent getaway and will take some running down on her home track. GREAT HEIST is the obvious and will have a stack of admirers. Interesting that he’s had four barrier trials this prep, but his most recent Lark Hill 29/06 heat win was very good and he looks ready to fire. DIAMOND TRADE makes her return to racing and shouldn’t be far away, while a race-fit LOOKS LIKE MAGIC warrants consideration also.

Tips: 4-1-2-5
Suggested: 4. SEA WAIF win.

4. SEA WAIF
1. GREAT HEIST
2. DIAMOND TRADE
5. LOOKS LIKE MAGIC

Race 6 – 3:02PM MURRAY VETERINARY SERVICES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Thinking CHOICE COMMAND can roll along out in front and give them something to catch. Will obviously find this easier that the Graduation Handicap he contested first up, and they set a really good clip on that occasion, so no surprise to see him fade late after racing outside leader. They really run for apprentice Madi Derrick and that 3kg claim could prove the difference. NOT MY FIGHT was dominant late in her Northam maiden win. Pike hops on and she’s going to give this a shake. FAIR JUSTICE was huge in defeat last start and should figure again, while NEAT ACTION rounds out the top four.

Tips: 1-5-4-2
Suggested: 1. CHOICE COMMAND win.

1. CHOICE COMMAND
5. NOT MY FIGHT
4. FAIR JUSTICE
2. NEAT ACTION

Race 7 – 3:40PM RACE SPONSORSHIP FROM ONLY $150 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

Wide open race this and it looks as though SUPER TEROITOA may get things to suit. Has come forward significantly this season, racing really well deep into a campaign, and he was stiff to run into a handy type in Conquered Zone in a similar event to this last start. Likely lands outside leader again and should go close again from there. WAR CLASS has always promised a bit and his lead-up 22/06 trial win suggests he’s ready to make an impact first up. LUKE’S CHOICE launched and just missed two weeks back and is a major player again, while DELTA BELLE and ACONITE are more than capable of winning also.

Tips: 4-9-2-8
Suggested: 4. SUPER TEROITOA each way.

4. SUPER TEROITOA
9. WAR CLASS
2. LUKE’S CHOICE
8. DELTA BELLE
1. ACONITE

Race 8 – 4:15PM BELHUS RACING STABLES 25 YEARS SELLING 5% SHARES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

BOBCAT JOHNNIE looks the class runner. Endured an interrupted prep in early 2020, but returned from a break here two weeks back and was brave in defeat, racing three-wide no cover the entire and going down only 1.4L. That run should tighten him up nicely and if he can work forward to lead, or race outside leader, he’s going to be hard to counter. Expecting QLD import SUNDAY SESSION to run a race fresh. Has strong formlines and a good SP profile, and both lead-up trials results were full of merit. TAP THE GO GO has been finishing off her races strongly, while anticipating improvement from SIGNIFICANT HERO second up.

Tips: 1-2-7-4
Suggested: 1. BOBCAT JOHNNIE each way.

1. BOBCAT JOHNNIE
2. SUNDAY SESSION
7. TAP THE GO GO
4. SIGNIFICANT HERO

Race 9 – 4:55PM COIL CLEANING AUSTRALIA HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Found it hard to look beyond REWRITE THE STARS. Got the win she so thoroughly deserved at Belmont 24/06, with the smart Sweet Strawberry looming large, but this filly dug deep late and was edging clear late on the line. Felt that win under 59kg was strong and she looks really well placed down 3kg from this low draw. BEL MY PAGO will appreciate coming back in grade and gets in well at the weights following Cover’s 3kg claim. Just needs a clear passage to impact. Love the booking of Pike on a refreshed TRAKIATO, while stablemates PEPPIJACK and COCKYJOY aren’t without claims also.

Tips: 8-1-2-3
Suggested: 8. REWRITE THE STARS win.

8. REWRITE THE STARS
1. BEL MY PAGO
2. TRAKIATO
3. PEPPIJACK
6. COCKYJOY
