Race 1 – 12:17PM LOCKY PLEASANCE MAIDEN (1500 METRES)
Looks the right race for JUST UNDER to break through. Has been good all prep and was a bit stiff not to knock off odds-on fave Bolshoi Gal two weeks back, when lunging late and just missing. This assignment doesn’t look as strong and Just Under should get it done. VITAL FLIRT comes through the same Pinjarra 23/07 race and was a big run also, making a sustained forward move mid-race and being beaten only 1.0L on the line. She’s the obvious danger. TICK ALONG strips fitter after his first-up assignment, while ICELANDER looks a top-four contender also.
Suggested: 6. JUST UNDER win.
6. JUST UNDER
8. VITAL FLIRT
3. TICK ALONG
Race 2 – 12:52PM JANE WHITEHORN MAIDEN (2000 METRES)
There was a blanket finish to a similar race to this two weeks back and those that figured prominently are set to fight this one out also. Ended up siding with FUSION, who while losing William Pike to suspension, is aided by the ability to take up a forward running position and the addition of blinkers should be a positive also. Looks the safe play in an open race. LOVE STRIKES hit the line hard last start, but another high draw means that she’ll more than likely be coming from well back in transit. MISS MARANTA and SPECIAL IMAGE map worse than midfield also, but both are expected to be working home well late.
Suggested: 6. FUSION win.
7. LOVE STRIKES
8. MISS MARANTA
9. SPECIAL IMAGE
Race 3 – 1:27PM GLENN MONEY MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
Confident GINGER GREEN will take some beating. Has always promised plenty at trials and was well found when a $6.50 chance at his Belmont 27/06 debut, but didn’t quite perform on the day. Has been freshened up since and this is nowhere near as strong as what he encountered last start, so if Ginger Green shows up he should be winning. CONGREVE ROCKET will have admirers after a solid debut result at Belmont 22/07. With a clean getaway, he can find the front and take some catching. Plenty of merit in the Belmont 20/07 trial from first-sterer BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA and she can show up, while PLAYING FOR KEEPS was a $5 chance at his Ascot debut back in May.
Suggested: 4. GINGER GREEN win.
4. GINGER GREEN
2. CONGREVE ROCKET
8. BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA
3. ZAC LUVS TO FLY

Race 4 – 2:04PM JOHN WARD MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
CLASSIC MAGNUS stands out as the horse to beat. Was heavily supported ($4.20 to $2.35) first up, but endured a chequered passage in transit and ran into a pretty hot field, with the Billy Ain’t Silly and Empire Reign form stacking up. Hasn’t been rushed since, blinkers go on, and from a low draw Lucy Warwick should give this filly every possible. Expecting VANE TEMPEST to make a splash on debut, coming out of a very fast heat at the Lark Hill 27/07 trials. CONVENTION shouldn’t be left out of calculations, while it was hard to ignore the soft last-to-first Lark Hill 27/07 trial win from first-starter SCOOZ ME.
Suggested: 6. CLASSIC MAGNUS win.
6. CLASSIC MAGNUS
12. VANE TEMPEST
4. SCOOZ ME
Race 5 – 2:42PM MIKE WILSON MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
Going again with ZAALAH. They jumped out of trees to back her on debut when $2.10 into $1.70 and after finding the front, she looked to have the race in her keeping late before being nailed right on the line by $101 pop Noble Spirit. Should naturally come forward off that hit-out and with even luck in transit, should be too good. Stablemate BON ODYSSEY does look to have genuine claims also. Comes through a decent first-up assignment, maps well and should impact on the quick backup. Anticipating sharp improvement from TRADE FAIR EXPRESS second up, while possible leader MISS BRIGHTON is capable of boxing on late.
Suggested: 12. ZAALAH win.
13. BON ODYSSEY
1. TRADE FAIR EXPRESS
11. MISS BRIGHTON
Race 6 – 3:20PM KEITH JEFFREYS HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Plenty of hopes in this open affair, but ADVOCATOR looks the one. Really liked her lead-up trial prior to a good first-up 1000m effort at Belmont last Wednesday. Should enjoy a nice run in transit from the alley, Madi Derrick takes 3kg off and Advocator did win her maiden this track/distance also. WAR ANTHEM should be ready to fire first up after two Lark Hill trial hit-outs. Pretty consistent type and gives himself every chance by being a natural on-pacer. VIN ROUGE is racing really well and has to be considered a major player in this, while THE SINGING TIGER and MISS MANDY are in the mix also.
Suggested: 4. ADVOCATOR win.
2. WAR ANTHEM
12. VIN ROUGE
3. THE SINGING TIGER
9. MISS MANDY
Race 7 – 3:55PM PETER MCKEAN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Been waiting for RATION ALY to re-emerge and expecting her to give this a shake. Is making her first raceday appearance in 393 days, but David Harrison looked to have her nice and wound-up when a fast-finishing second in her Lark Hill 27/07 trial. Always a query on a horse that’s been off the scene for this long, but her class should take her a fair way. THE THUNDERESS impressed with a dominant Northam first-up win. This high draw provides a trickier task, but the way she won suggests she can’t be taken lightly. EUROTRIP and MONG KHON can both elevate second up, while SEA SPRING ran a race at her first outing for her new stable last start.
Suggested: 5. RATION ALY each way.
5. RATION ALY
8. THE THUNDERESS
3. MONG KHON
11. SEA SPRING
Race 8 – 4:30PM KEITH MULLINS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Tricky race and with low confidence have decided to lock in SAFETY BAY on top. Has continued to perform consistently this time in work and looks to be coming out of stronger races than this, so with even luck from the sticky alley she really should be fighting this one out. ARTIE’S JEWELS is competing really well and has been a bit stiff not to win one recently. Have to respect his recent efforts. STREET FAIR was a $3.30 fave in a similar event to this last start and will be well found by the market again, while BRAVE CONTENDER trialled too well to ignore alongside Trap For Fools at Lark Hill 27/07.
Suggested: 10. SAFETY BAY each way.
10. SAFETY BAY
6. ARTIE’S JEWELS
4. STREET FAIR
1. BRAVE CONTENDER
Race 9 – 5:10PM BELHUS RACING STABLES-25 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS HANDICAP (1412 METRES)
Really tough race to finish the day, as you could make a case for most of them. Ended up landing on eastern-states import ABSOLUTE who ran well in Graduation Handicap company at Belmont last start, finishing only 1.0L from Zephyr Queen. That form reads well, Kyra Yuill gives him the right run from this low draw and it looks a nice set-up for Absolute. SECRET STATUE comes back in grade also and looks the type who’ll appreciate the addition of blinkers. An aggressive Jarrad Noske on is a good booking also. CHOICE COMMAND rolls forward and boxes on, LIL’ RED BIKINI will have a heap of admirers, while last-start all-the-way maiden winner BOLSHOI GAL makes appeal also.
Suggested: 1. ABSOLUTE each way.
9. SECRET STATUE
7. LIL’ RED BIKINI
11. BOLSHOI GAL
