Race 1 – 12:33PM TABTOUCH PINJARRA CUP & FASHIONS ON THE FIELD SUNDAY APRIL 3 MAIDEN (1000 METRES)
Straight 1000m Maiden to begin Magic Millions Day and landed with BALAMANI on top. Spelled after catching the eye on debut this track/distance last April and looked on track with a Lark Hill 10/01 trial win. Inside draws has to be a query down the Straight but this is a thin contest and Balamani can overcome. Likely leader NITRO FRED has drawn the right side of the Straight and showed enough last prep. Also hardened for this first-up assignment in a Belmont 17/01 trial. BAYZEL strips fitter second up and maps to get a nice smother in transit, while ENDLESS BOUNTY can bounce back and SONGS AND LYRICS will be doing his best work late.
Suggested: 10. BALAMANI win.
3. NITRO FRED
4. ENDLESS BOUNTY
5. SONGS AND LYRICS
Race 2 – 1:13PM WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Found this Westspeed Platinum Handicap to be wide open and opted to side with the race-fit and in-form GALLANT RANGER. The Michael Lane yard is back heading in a positive direction and this fellow is symbolic of that, hitting the line hard in two wins from as many outings this prep. Lands midfield from this draw and has the closing speed to give this a shake. Don’t mind HALATORION rising to 1300m on the quick backup. Just needs a smother in transit. PRO IS HERE over-exerted in front coming to town last start and he can rebound with a more economical steer over the 1300m, while no surprise to see TRADEM’ IN fight out the finish first up and local mare SEA WAIF has to be a consideration on top of the speed.
Suggested: 9. GALLANT RANGER win.
9. GALLANT RANGER
5. PRO IS HERE
3. TRADEM’ IN
13. SEA WAIF
Race 3 – 1:53PM NEOMETALS ALL THE RIGHT ELEMENTS HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Feel as though WATCH ME NEY NEY put the writing on the wall last start. Does find it hard to win, however, he was three-wide no cover over the Ascot 1800m last start and kept coming for a fighting second. Maps rearwards but with the right tow into the race Watch Me Ney Ney goes close. The Pearce Bros has persevered with CHICLETT and she’s responded with two excellent Great Southern wins. A bit stiff not to have won her last five really, so is locked in and will take some beating. BENJI’S has been his own worst enemy this prep and just needs a clean getaway to take advantage of this draw. The ever-improving HOIST THE COLOURS may look to lead and out-muscle them late, while OFF WEGO virtually matched Chiclett at Mt Barker 23/01.
Suggested: 9. WATCH ME NEY NEY win.
9. WATCH ME NEY NEY
7. HOIST THE COLOURS
5. OFF WEGO
4. CLASSIC ROGUE
*Numbers amended after scratchings
Race 4 – 2:29PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Going again with PRIZED MISS. Was a reasonable run rising in grade and distance third up at Ascot 24/01 and expecting her to come further forward with that experience under the belt. Maps nice and soft from this low draw, so expected to have plenty of fuel left to be strong to the line late. CASTILLO DEL LAGO likes to roll along out in front and he’s added some toughness to his racing recently. Takes some catching. EURASIA drops in weight and regains stable rider Shaun McGruddy for this assignment, while OUR NORMAN found the front and kept going in this grade last start and FRIAR AWAY was game in defeat behind Come Right Back last time.
Suggested: 9. PRIZED MISS win.
9. PRIZED MISS
4. CASTILLO DEL LAGO
6. OUR NORMAN
3. FRIAR AWAY
Race 5 – 3:10PM BUNBURY APARTMENT MOTEL HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Don’t mind VIA MONTE having his first look at the Pinjarra Straight 1000. Won really well first up and simply ran into a real good one in Spin The Knife last start, when $4.60 to $2.80. Like this draw for him and just needs to be within striking distance of SOCKOFF and he can get it done. Sockoff loves the Straight 1000 and is a nostril away from being unbeaten this track/distance. Has the gate speed to overcome the low draw and expect to see her in front for a long way. MANTELLI looks well placed back in class with a claim and looks set to get his chance from this gate, while MATERIAL WITNESS is a winner here two back and no surprise to see NUHAD show some dash fresh.
Suggested: 14. VIA MONTE win.
14. VIA MONTE
2. MATERIAL WITNESS
Race 6 – 3:45PM THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS WA PEARL CLASSIC (1300 METRES)
This year’s Pearl Classic is well-and-truly up for grabs and the lightly-raced KARLI’S KARMA is a major player. Caused an upset first up with the form out of that race reading very well and she was huge in defeat last start when three-wide no cover the entire. Like the riding change and the low draw, and Karli’s Karma did defeat Pure Devotion in a maiden this track/distance only four starts ago. LIPSTICK FLICKERS did well to hold down second at her first outing for Adam Durrant in the Mt Barker Sprint. Stablemate I’M PRETTY was a $2.70 fave in Ratings 72+ grade last time, so that reads well against this line up, while MISS VASARI can be saved up for one crack at them and class runner BORN TO TRY has fired first-up previously.
Suggested: 12. KARLI’S KARMA win.
12. KARLI’S KARMA
3. LIPSTICK FLICKERS
2. I’M PRETTY
6. MISS VASARI
1. BORN TO TRY
Race 7 – 4:20PM MAGIC MILLIONS WA 3YO TROPHY (1200 METRES)
Hard seeing them catching the exciting SPIN THE KNIFE. Was an alarming drifter when $1.75 to $2.80 first up but make a nonsense of that with an arrogant Ascot 1000m victory under 60.5kg. Beautifully positioned in this set weights contest and only needs to begin to find the rail in front and control proceedings from there. Appears a class above. PIXIE CHIX was luckless in the Magic Millions 2YO last year and placed third behind the fave last start. In good form but likely has to come from last. The unbeaten RED FIFTY THREE has x-factor but also needs to overcome a sticky draw, while CHAMPAGNE DAME can certainly run a race first up on speed and ACEFIRE was electric in his two Belmont midweek wins last prep and later started a $9.50 chance in the listed Lee Steere Stakes.
Suggested: 1. SPIN THE KNIFE win.
1. SPIN THE KNIFE
9. PIXIE CHIX
2. RED FIFTY THREE
11. CHAMPAGNE DAME
Race 8 – 4:55PM MAGIC MILLIONS WA 2YO CLASSIC (1200 METRES)
Confident one of the trio that filled the placings in the Ascot 24/01 feeder race will claim this year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic, and ended up siding with STREET PARADE. Looked to have the race won but ran out of steam late, suggesting the stable were looking to peak on grand final day. Another high draw is the obvious query but Shaun McGruddy has won four MM 2YO Classics now, so backing him in to make the right calls. Felt SHEEZA BELTER was massive last start. Was entitled to pop badly after racing on speed and over-exerting, but compete like a class horse late. SHE’S GREYSFUL made the most of the right run last start but looks set to enjoy a similar passage. Winkers have gone on for the big one also, while ALL THE KING’S MEN will be steaming home late and Crystal Slipper Stakes winner MAN CRUSH has to be respected also.
Suggested: 2. STREET PARADE win.
2. STREET PARADE
8. SHEEZA BELTER
9. SHE’S GREYSFUL
3. ALL THE KING’S MEN
1. MAN CRUSH
Race 9 – 5:35PM GEISEL PARK MILE (1600 METRES)
Runner up in the two lead-ups THE SPRUIKER gets his chance to turn the tables. Was a bit stiff not to win the Easingwold two back and was a sitting duck for Proconsent last start, when forced to breeze outside leader and being left vulnerable late. That big effort will only tighten him up for this mile assignment and with some cover on this occasion, The Spruiker looks the one. PROCONSENT had the drop on The Spruiker last start but still really let rip late with some excellent sectionals. Continues his evolution under Adam Durrant. Interestingly stable jockey CJP has opted for BERET off 28 days, but her has ridden her to four straight wins so understandably loyal. Low draw also means she lands right in the slot, while the best of VITAL SILVER and DOM TO SHOOT would make them both formidable.
Suggested: 3. THE SPRUIKER win.
3. THE SPRUIKER
1. VITAL SILVER
9. DOM TO SHOOT
Race 10 – 6:12PM DARLING VIEW THOROUGHBREDS REMEMBERING I’M ALL THE TALK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
She is coming off back-to-back black type gut-busters but trusting Darren McAuliffe to have CLAIRVOYANCE on song for this winnable ratings race. Things haven’t gone to plan in her two recent outings but she maps to get a soft lead on this occasion, and just needs to be rated reasonably by apprentice Holly Watson. Looks like no excuses for Clairvoyance and backing her in to hit back hard. SON SON is no slouch though and is tough enough to make the on-topper sweat. COMES A TIME had excuses first up when held up at a vital stage. Fitter and gets a sweet trail behind the leaders, while EEYORE WAYZ is back to his best and SERENITY BAY has the class to impact first up.
Suggested: 1. CLAIRVOYANCE win.
2. SON SON
7. COMES A TIME
4. EEYORE WAYZ
5. SERENITY BAY
