Race 1 – 1:34PM WWW.NORTHAMRACECLUB.COM MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

Expecting ADELAIDE ACE to go one better after the narrowest of defeats on debut. Was $2.10 into $1.75 on that occasion, but couldn’t quite get over the top of Baby Blues, who followed up with a solid second at Belmont last Wednesday. Lands right on top of the speed, or perhaps in front, and should get every chance from there. LEICA JAGUAR stretched the well-regarded Born To Try second up and will be backed to knock off Adelaide Ace in this. Previous Platinum Bullet form reads well also. SOWAR can figure after having excuses first up, while no surprise to see ANCIENT REMEDY improve.

Tips: 2-4-7-6
Suggested: 2. ADELAIDE ACE win.

2. ADELAIDE ACE
4. SOWAR
7. ANCIENT REMEDY
6. LYLE’S CHOICE

Race 2 – 2:12PM GANNONS SPORTSWEAR AND TROPHIES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

Happy to lock in PATY’S FORCAST on top. Like most, was keen on her first up at Belmont 17/8, but she got caught in the inferior part of the track and surprisingly missed a place. Didn’t look entirely comfortable on the significantly rain-affected going on that occasion, so should be better suited on a firmer Northam surface and with even luck from a wide draw, has the closing speed to sweep to victory. KAZKAZI looks the main danger, coming off a first-up placing two weeks back. Anticipating positive tactics from the draw, while both VITALILO and SEEING DAYLIGHT had no luck last start.

Tips: 5-8-10-4
Suggested: 5. PATY’S FORCAST win.

5. PATY’S FORCAST
8. KAZKAZI
10. VITALILO
4. SEEING DAYLIGHT

Race 3 – 2:47PM GANNONS LADIES DAY OCT 6 MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

VENA SCHNITZEL is more than capable of giving this a shake first up. Has promised a bit over the journey, running some good races against reasonable opposition, and has been readied for this assignment with two solid Lark Hill trial hit outs. Maps to advantage and should get the galloping room he requires with the cutaway rail in play. Really liked the recent trial result from JENJA and with Pike in the saddle, this 3YO will have a heap of admirers first up. Possible leader SCANDOLO can roll along and take some catching, while first-upper VALIDATION showed plenty last prep.

Tips: 7-12-2-8
Suggested: 7. VENA SCHNITZEL each way.

7. VENA SCHNITZEL
12. JENJA
2. SCANDOLO
8. VALIDATION

Race 4 – 3:27PM WWW.GANNONS.COM.AU MAIDEN (1600 METRES)

Wide-open 1600m Maiden and thought NOBEL RIZE could go close. Wasn’t too far away at his first two Northam outings and should’ve finished closer at Pinjarra last time when held up in the straight. May hold the box seat with a clean getaway from gate one and does look ready for the mile now with two 1400m runs under his belt. BOOTLEG RASCAL has had plenty of chances, but will no doubt win one of these. Obvious major player with Pike back on board. BRAVE CALL wasn’t himself last start and can rebound ridden cold, while CABLE GUY and GOLDVEIN should both be running on strong late.

Tips: 8-1-2-6
Suggested: 8. NOBEL RIZE each way.

8. NOBEL RIZE
1. BOOTLEG RASCAL
2. BRAVE CALL
6. CABLE GUY

Race 5 – 4:04PM GANNONS RACING COLOURS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

WEE RIPPER looks ready to produce his best. Similar to his initial racing campaign, he has come along gradually this prep, but put the writing on the wall with a strong third-up Belmont result last start. With a nice smother in transit, he should run over the top late. CHAPASCO will have his share of admirers, resuming racing after a WA Derby 3YO campaign. Two lead-up trials have been good and he’ll take some holding out first up. BOMBARDMENT returned to form fourth up at Belmont, beating home Wee Ripper, while FRENCH TOAST caught the eye when running on from last two weeks back.

Tips: 3-1-4-6
Suggested: 3. WEE RIPPER each way.

3. WEE RIPPER
1. CHAPASCO
4. BOMBARDMENT
6. FRENCH TOAST

Race 6 – 4:40PM GANNONS TROPHIES HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

MAGIC LAS VEGAS appears well placed back in this grade and should prove very hard to beat. Just about a good thing beat at Belmont two back and did himself no favours when over-racing in front last time, but did a reasonable job to box on late behind the smart Zaratite. Race fit, in form and Ryan Hill has a good record on this fellow. DIPLOMAT EXPRESS narrowly missed in a busy finish to a similar event last time and has to be considered a major player. Has a strong track/distance profile. SAN CRISPINO is holding good form, while no surprise to see I’M A LOVE MAN run a cheeky race.

Tips: 1-3-8-4
Suggested: 1. MAGIC LAS VEGAS win.

1. MAGIC LAS VEGAS
3. DIPLOMAT EXPRESS
8. SAN CRISPINO
4. I’M A LOVE MAN

Race 7 – 5:15PM GANNONS HATS HANDBAGS & HORSES HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Plenty of hopes in the final event with POINT TAKEN ticking plenty of boxes. Is coming off a 36-day break, but did win her maiden over this track/distance, and split smart types Uni Time and Next Stop The Moon at Belmont last start. Suited from low draw with an in-form McNaught on board and should be going close. MINIKA looked the goods during her initial racing prep and her lead-up trial was much better than it reads on paper. Just needs even luck from the outside alley to figure prominently, while possible leaders STRASMORE, SWANKY LASS and CLASSIC CHANT are all expected to play a part.

Tips: 2-1-4-6
Suggested: 2. MINIKA win.

2. MINIKA
1. STRASMORE
4. SWANKY LASS
6. CLASSIC CHANT
