Race 1 – 1:17PM XXXX GOLD MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

A bit of talent lining up in this 3YO Maiden, but happy to be siding with DRINKWHATYOULIKE at her first start for the Simon A. Miller yard. Showed promise with Brett Pope as a juvenile, but her 4.9-length Lark Hill 19/8 trial win suggests she’s taken the next step this time in. Has the gate speed to lead these and will take some catching. First-upper WILCHINO was equally impressive in her Lark Hill 26/8 trial win, the fastest 950m heat of the session. Demands respect. WARFISH is another coming off a smart trial win and will have admirers also, while OBSTINATION has to be considered also.

Tips: 2-5-1-4
Suggested: 2. DRINKWHATYOULIKE win.

2. DRINKWHATYOULIKE
5. WILCHINO
1. WARFISH
4. OBSTINATION

Race 2 – 1:52PM IRON JACK MAIDEN (2200 METRES)

Not many trainers could get a horse to win over 2200m at their second start, but Lindsey Smith is certainly one of them and trusting him to have ONCE WERE LOST ready to fire. The Northern Hemisphere-bred 4YO caught the eye in a Lark Hill 19/8 trial and again at a 1600m debut last week, giving the impression he’s looking for further. This isn’t strong and Once Were Lost gets his chance. XAARMERIT is a major player on the five-day backup and may even find himself out in front. MANDUKHAI has put in a couple of handy efforts since arriving in WA, while FIRST BLACK had excuses last time.

Tips: 5-1-8-9
Suggested: 5. ONCE WERE LOST win.

5. ONCE WERE LOST
1. XAARMERIT
8. MANDUKHAI
9. FIRST BLACK

Race 3 – 2:27PM HAHN SUPER DRY MAIDEN (1600 METRES)

THANKYOU VERY MUCH should give this a shake. Really competitive at both runs this prep, including last start with three-wide with cover throughout and only going down 1.6 lengths on the line. Has the gate speed to land in the first four/five in running and goes close from there. AMILLIONITE hasn’t done a lot wrong, but has had plenty of chances to break through already this prep. Still has to be considered though. Liked the first-up effort from UNDER THE ARCHERS and expecting him to run on strong late, while a freshened HIGHEST REGARD should roll forward early and box on evenly late.

Tips: 5-7-8-1
Suggested: 5. THANKYOU VERY MUCH each way.

5. THANKYOU VERY MUCH
7. AMILLIONITE
8. UNDER THE ARCHERS
1. HIGHEST REGARD

Race 4 – 3:07PM FURPHY MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

ORACHINO looks well placed back in this company and should take a stack of beating. In the mix at each of her three runs this campaign, including a last-start effort behind smart 3YOs Amarillo Rose and Massimo in a $70K Belmont event. Maps to advantage from the low draw and should get galloping room with the cutaway in play. First-upper SHOWZALI looks very hard to beat also and will attract a wave of support. Always promised plenty and her recent trial results suggests she’s ready to fire fresh. DRAGONFLIES is racing consistently, while no surprise to see CELIATORE impact first up.

Tips: 8-9-7-6
Suggested: 8. ORACHINO each way.

8. ORACHINO
9. SHOWZALI
7. CELIATOREZ
6. GREY DANCER

Race 5 – 3:42PM EMU EXPORT HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Has a few tricks, but if VELAGO is on his best behaviour he should take care of business first up against this company. Always had an engine, but took a major step forward last prep and showed he was ready to produce his best fresh with a 6.0-length Lark Hill 26/8 trial win. Destined for bigger things and with even luck should salute. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND is backing up after stretching Tonkatuff at Belmont last week. Unbeaten this track/distance and has to be a major player. NZ-import MCEDITH had no luck at her WA debut, while SHIP CREEK gets the right run from her low draw.

Tips: 2-1-8-4
Suggested: 2. VELAGO win.

2. VELAGO
1. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND
8. MCEDITH
4. PASAJERO

Race 6 – 4:17PM HAHN 3.5 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

FLYING TARGET won’t get many better opportunities to salute the judge. Has mixed up her form, but has finished runner up with Pike on from low draws at three of her last five starts, and really made the well-regarded Black Ducati earn the win at Belmont last time. Ticks plenty of boxes and there should be no excuses with the cutaway in play. AL CAPITANO is flying for Jono Jachmann and was really strong in victory this track/distance last time. In form and race fit. No surprise to see sharp improvement from ROCK THIS COUNTRY, while stablemate FLAGSTICK has to be a top-four contender again.

Tips: 5-1-3-4
Suggested: 5. FLYING TARGET win.

5. FLYING TARGET
1. AL CAPITANO
3. ROCK THIS COUNTRY
4. FLAGSTICK

Race 7 – 4:52PM SUMMER BRIGHT HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

Taking a leap of faith, but if the real MOET DE VEGA shows up he should find the front and be too good for these. Has had obvious issues, which has limited his impact, but did place in Ratings 66+ at Ascot on Railway Stakes Day last November, and prior to that defeated The Fugazi and Trump This. Has endured an interrupted prep, but the Casey yard wouldn’t be stepping him out unless he was ready to go. SIR MAMBO looks the likely face with Pike on board and deservedly so. Very hard to beat. PEARL GIRL will have admirers after a brave last-start effort, while GOLDEN ARCHES is holding peak form.

Tips: 1-2-6-3
Suggested: 1. MOET DE VEGA each way.

1. MOET DE VEGA
6. PEARL GIRL
3. GOLDEN ARCHES
4. BON VOYAGE
