Race 1 – 12:07PM RM SMITH & SONS MAIDEN (1000 METRES)
Appears a two-horse contest, but hard to look past the race-experienced NEW AMSTERDAM. Has got back and run on strongly in both outings to date, but should be able to settle much closer to the leaders beginning from this low draw. Should have too much closing speed for his rivals. EGYPTIAN MOON has to be respected on debut, hailing from the flying Michael Lane stable and coming off a sharp Belmont 8/06 trial win. Appears the biggest threat. Don’t mind the looks of nicely-bred debutante ROSES ARE RED, who has been improving steadily at trials, while VENETIAN JEWEL will roll forward and attack with only 53kg.
Suggested: 2. NEW AMSTERDAM win.
2. NEW AMSTERDAM
7. EGYPTIAN MOON
9. ROSES ARE RED
4. VENETIAN JEWEL
Race 2 – 12:42PM TRIPLE M AVON VALLEY MAIDEN (1100 METRES)
Hasn’t enjoyed the most fluent of campaign, but if right NOT MY FIGHT should be breaking through. Thought the effort to close hard late behind Stella Door at Pinjarra last start was full of merit, and while the 53 days between runs suggests a setback, all her form appears strong enough to give this a shake. Maps nicely also and should get every chance. The race-hardened SHADOW SHIFTER has put in two solid runs on the bounce and should be well positioned on top of the speed from this alley. JOYRIZE has been very costly to follow, but showed more with Pike on board last start, while WILD VALLEY just needs to settle better to figure prominently in the finish.
Suggested: 5. NOT MY FIGHT win.
5. NOT MY FIGHT
1. SHADOW SHIFTER
8. WILD VALLEY
Race 3 – 1:17PM WINDWARD BALLOON ADVENTURES MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
Looks a really good option for JONO. Worked home well enough when resuming at Belmont 21/05 and followed up with an improved effort last start. Does appear to have more upside and with a reasonable run in transit from a mid draw, looks set to give this a nudge. First-upper MIRROR MOON has Pike on, hails from the Team Williams yard and has been readied with two lead-up Lark Hill trials. High draw obvious negative though. HITCHINRAIL competed in a hot maiden on debut and should come forward with race experience, while WHAT PLANET YOU ON appears next best.
Suggested: 13. MIRROR MOON win.
13. MIRROR MOON
12. WHAT PLANET YOU ON
1. LET ME PASS

Race 4 – 1:57PM NORTHAM MAZDA MAIDEN (2200 METRES)
These staying maidens are always tricky assignments to assess, but opting to roll with SESSIONELLE on this occasion. Toughed it out in a similar assignment to this last time, before being nosed out by Alby’s Pride and the 6.9L margin back to third highlighted the merit of the effort. Has the miles in the legs and looks ready to break through. SMART FASCINATOR has caught the eye at her last two and appears ready to step up to a middle distance now. Same can be said about ARROWSWIFT, on the quick back-up after last week’s solid 1600m result, while SPECIAL IMAGE shouldn’t be overlooked also.
Suggested: 10. SESSIONELLE win.
12. SMART FASCINATOR
9. SPECIAL IMAGE
Race 5 – 2:35PM GANNON’S SPORTSWEAR AND TROPHIES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Expecting FANCY FOX to go close. Has been rejuvenated since joining the Robin Elliott camp, ending a long drought in April and running some good races since. Caught the eye when running on from last with strength at Belmont 23/05 and this opposition doesn’t look quite as strong, so Fancy Fox certainly appears placed to advantage. SUSPECTUS was the subject of heavy backing first up for his new stable last start and didn’t let supporters down, scoring a decisive victory. Maps ideally again and can measure up to this grade. SPEEDY MISS looks the obvious with Pike on board, while STORMY RULER can elevate significantly third up from this draw.
Suggested: 6. FANCY FOX each way.
6. FANCY FOX
3. SPEEDY MISS
2. STORMY RULER
Race 6 – 3:10PM TABTOUCH HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Going to take a fair effort from the high draw, but promising 3YO SOWAR still looks the horse to beat. Has been let up since a last-start Ascot 10/04 win, but looked the goods in his Belmont 8/06 trial effort behind smart mare Pearls And Prawns. Maps rearwards, but if the track’s playing fair Sowar has the closing speed to get over the top. PERCEIVE was well supported first up and just failed to get the cash, running into an in form/race fit Point Taken. Has to be a major player in this also. Stablemate and likely leader DUSTYPARK will be boxing on, while MIRTH ‘N’ MUSIC will settle back-ish and be running on well late.
Suggested: 1. SOWAR win.
3. MIRTH ‘N’ MUSIC
Race 7 – 3:50PM MANE EVENT CAFÉ AND CATERING HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
TRUTIARA looks well placed back in grade and should bounce back to winning form. Thought she was a top-four chance when rising in grade at Belmont 6/06, and while she enjoyed a lovely rails run in transit it turned out that wasn’t the place to be on that particular day. Well placed against this line up and she’s obviously going to take some beating. Honest on-pacer LIL’ RED BIKINI should roll forward and box on as always, while Pike going on THE ITALIAN JOB is a booking of significance and the riding tactics from the high draw will be of interest also, while MISINFORMED BEN and MISSALFIE are both in the mix also.
Suggested: 4. TRUTIARA win.
5. LIL’ RED BIKINI
8. MISINFORMED BEN

Race 8 – 4:30PM IRON JACK HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Really keen on first-upper REGAL POYSE and she’s just about the best of the day. Kicked off her previous campaign with a smart Northam 1100m win and the way she took care of business in her Belmont 26/05 trial victory suggests Dan Morton has her ready to fire fresh. With a reasonable run in transit, Regal Poyse should be too good for this lot. GOKU can certainly run a race, freshened up and coming back in both class and trip. Gate one should see him well positioned throughout. Kayle Farrell has the well-travelled DOLCITY racing in career-best form, while VIC import BANK ON IT was scratched at the gates as a $4.20 chance at Belmont last week.
Suggested: 7. REGAL POYSE win.
7. REGAL POYSE
5. BANK ON IT
