Race 1 – 12:37PM MANE EVENT CAFÉ AND CATERING MAIDEN (1100 METRES)
Looks the right race for STARTRADE to break through. Trialled well prior to a fast-closing fifth first up two weeks back, and with natural improvement she can elevate sufficiently enough to get the job done. NORTHWOOD faded late when resuming for her new stable, but strips fitter and should get a suitable run behind the leaders with the cutaway rail in play. SKILFUL HUNTER was beaten less than a length on debut and that’s decent form in a thin race, while first-upper NOT REALLY TRUE trialled well enough at Lark Hill 27/07 and has run some okay races in previous campaigns.
Suggested: 4. STARTRADE win.
3. SKILFUL HUNTER
6. NOT REALLY TRUE
Race 2 – 1:12PM GANNONS SPORTSWEAR AND TROPHIES MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
Expecting CHICLETT to make a winning return. Made an impression during her initial racing campaign with two strong-finishing Ascot results, including a close-up fourth in the G2 WA Sires Produce Stakes. Wasn’t fully extended in Lark Hill 27/07 trial and she really should have a class edge on these. Liked the way MINE DETECTOR worked to the line behind the smart Empire Reign at Belmont last start and he’s on the improve. REBEL TAIL has shown promise over the journey, has form around some handy types and maps well with the cutaway in play, while expecting first-starter LITTLE SES to foll forward and box on.
Suggested: 7. CHICLETT win.
3. MINE DETECTOR
8. REBEL TAIL
10. LITTLE SES
Race 3 – 1:47PM IRON JACK MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
Siding with WEONA BRUTE at his first outing for the Steele Casey yard. Has always shown glimpses at trials and hit the line hard in a 950m Lark Hill 27/07 heat, with Nurhaci making the form read reasonably well since. Suited with blinkers on from a low draw, and the cutaway also enhances his claims. I AM GROOT was very well supported first-up two weeks back, but got too far back early and was doing his best work late. Expected to have plenty of admirers again. Anticipating a competitive first-up result from BALDERDASH, while FAIRER AMERICA can race on-speed and box on into the top four again.
Suggested: 6. WEONA BRUTE each way.
6. WEONA BRUTE
4. I AM GROOT
2. FAIRER AMERICA
Race 4 – 2:22PM DEBORTOLI WINES MAIDEN (1600 METRES)
Low confidence race, but CAPE REIGN goes on top. Was having his first start for Neville Parker two weeks back and made good late ground behind Sentimental Queen. Suited up to the mile and the low draw helps as well, so Cape Reign won’t get many better opportunities to salute. FINAL CHILL wasn’t far away in a blanket finish last Thursday and may even be better placed coming back to the mile. Has form and race-fitness advantages on most of these. SNIP’N’TUCK was at long odds on debut, but the effort was there and she has to be considered, while WATTO’S REWARD maps rearwards, but can still work her way into the top four late.
Suggested: 3. CAPE REIGN win.
3. CAPE REIGN
1. FINAL CHILL
10. WATTO’S REWARD
Race 5 – 3:00PM TABTOUCH HANDICAP (2200 METRES)
TREAT YO SELF looks hard to beat again on the eight-day turnaround. Found the front at Belmont last week and fended off the challengers, appreciating in-form apprentice Madi Derrick’s 3kg claim. Has a weight advantage over her main rivals again and if Treat Yo Self leads again, she’s going to be very hard to get past. PEARLS FROM HEAVEN had been threatening to do something all prep and finally put it together sixth-up at Belmont 22/07. Has to be a major player again. CLASSIC JACK doesn’t appear far away from a peak performance, while CHAMPAGNE GAL comes through much stronger races than this.
Suggested: 4. TREAT YO SELF win.
4. TREAT YO SELF
1. PEARLS FROM HEAVEN
6. CLASSIC JACK
8. CHAMPAGNE GAL
Race 6 – 3:40PM AG IMPLEMENTS NORTHAM HANDICAP (2200 METRES)
Hard to see DELTA BELLE getting rolled. Loomed to win before peaking at Belmont 29/07, but the form out of that race through Bonneville Black and Sowar reads very well, and she should be peaking at this stage of her prep. This race isn’t as strong as what she’s been facing and Delta Belle stands out. FUSION is backing up a week after a break-through maiden win at Pinjarra. Gives herself every chance on top of the speed and is rarely far away at the finish. ROLL THE GOODTIMES has run some decent races this prep and looks suited with 55kg from gate one, while the best of PRESCIENCE would see him go close.
Suggested: 2. DELTA BELLE win.
2. DELTA BELLE
8. ROLL THE GOODTIMES
Race 7 – 4:20PM #VISITNORTHAM HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
THE SINGING TIGER looks the way to go in this Class 1 Handicap. Ran some of the best closing splits of the day at Pinjarra last Thursday, appreciating a patient ride from gate 10, and should be ready for the rise to 1400m now. Justin Warwick is a master on the quick backup and The Singing Tiger has to rate highly. Looking forward to seeing what STAADEN can do first up. Showed a bit last prep and was sharpened-up with a solid Lark Hill 27/07 trial result. Victorian import MILL ON BROOK stays all day, but no surprise to see her sprint well fresh, while MIRROR MOON round out the top four.
Suggested: 2. THE SINGING TIGER win.
2. THE SINGING TIGER
5. MILL ON BROOK
6. MIRROR MOON
Race 8 – 5:00PM WWW.NORTHAMRACECLUB.COM HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
3YO filly SUNNYSILK takes on the older horses first up but should still come out on top. Showed courage and class in a five-start juvenile campaign, taking on some quality types, and looked really sharp in her Lark Hill 27/07 trial win. Should roll forward from the high draw and get the job done. THE HONEYMAN is a competitor and should get a suitable run in transit from this handy draw. Expected to impact first up. Like McNaught going back on THE FINEST and the cutaway rail should enhance his claims, while OUR GIRL MARLI can sneak into the top four at her first run in 84 days.
Suggested: 5. SUNNYSILK win.
3. THE HONEYMAN
4. THE FINEST
9. OUR GIRL MARLI
