Race 1 – 12:12PM MCDONALD’S MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
Like the looks of JAG THE JOKER on debut. Was a distant last settling down in her Lark Hill 16/9 trial, but made up a stack of ground after plotting a wide path on the turn. Hard not to like the way she found the line there and if she can stay within striking distance, she can run over the top of these late. First-upper ANNIHILATOR showed potential at trials last prep and has since been gelded. Hasn’t been fully extended in two lead-up trial and looks well placed in this. Respect the Durrant/Pike combo with MAGIC WILL REIGN on debut, while QUIRINDI was very wide throughout last time.
Suggested: 7. JAG THE JOKER win.
7. JAG THE JOKER
8. MAGIC WILL REIGN
Race 2 – 12:52PM YARRADALE STUD HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Nice option for CRYPTIC LOVE. Continues to hold strong form deep into her prep and she did a good job to finish on the winner’s heels last start after doing additional work in running. All the form around her stacks up and with a patient ride from visiting hoop Craig Newitt, Cryptic Love should be too good for these. STAR GLITTER maps rails in run and will find this easier than what he faced last time. First-upper KISS THE BREEZE will have admirers, as always, and maps to advantage, while BADGE OF COURAGE is coming off a brave Kambalda Cup effort and is suited from the draw.
Suggested: 4. CRYPTIC LOVE win.
4. CRYPTIC LOVE
6. STAR GLITTER
3. KISS THE BREEZE
1. BADGE OF COURAGE
Race 3 – 1:32PM COASTAL MIDWEST HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Expecting NIGHT VOYAGE to give this a shake with Jade McNaught back on board. Having got all the favours when the pair teamed up successfully three back, Night Voyage hasn’t had a lot of luck in two runs since, encountering traffic issues on both occasions. Should get a clearer passage in this small field and be strongest late. The front-running MERVYN wasn’t too far away at Belmont last time and will give them something to chase back in the Goldfields. Stablemate SENORITA BONITA is coming back from 1400m but respect with Pike on, while COUNT TOMOZ OFF should be firing third up.
Suggested: 1. NIGHT VOYAGE win.
1. NIGHT VOYAGE
4. SENORITA BONITA
3. COUNT TOMOZ OFF
Race 4 – 2:12PM WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
NEMIROFF should dominate from the front again. Strongly supported this track/distance last start and after landing in front, really got rolling from the 800m and gave nothing a look in, drawing clear for a decisive win. Unless he encounters mid-race pressure, Nemiroff shouldbe too sharp. FAIRTRUSIVE appears the main danger, having soaked up a strong tempo over 1400m last time and letting down well under 60kg to score. Maps to advantage also. SMART FOX does tend to find the 1200m a stretch, but still has to be considered, while no surprise to see ARNIE’S BOY run a race first up.
Suggested: 2. NEMIROFF win.
1. SMART FOX
3. ARNIE’S BOY
Race 5 – 2:52PM COATES HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
WAR SECRETS has always shown potential and is now really starting to his his straps since a transfer to Peter Fernie’s Kalgoorlie yard. Has shown brilliant closing speed when recording back-to-back wins this track/distance recently and looks weighted to win again, sliding down to only 55.5kg after McNaught’s claim. EXCARO will make things interesting though, having given a good account of herself against quality opposition last time. Major player. Likely leader TAJMALI will have them stretching their necks, while SHIP CREEK has been performing consistently and looks a top-four contender again.
Suggested: 3. WAR SECRETS win.
3. WAR SECRETS
6. SHIP CREEK
Race 6 – 3:30PM LD TOTAL HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
REGAL COUNSEL stands out as one of the best on the card. Unleashed with a brilliant burst to win in this grade at Belmont two back, and a slow getaway proved costly when hitting the line hard in a slowly run mile event two weeks back. Should hold a reasonable running position with a clean beginning and with even luck, should have too much closing speed for these. MIRACLE MAN is the class runner and at his best can certainly stretch the fave. Stablemate SENSE OF POWER looks the likely leader and should find this more suitable than last time, while it’s hard to fault CAN HE RULE HER recently.
Suggested: 2. REGAL COUNSEL win.
2. REGAL COUNSEL
1. MIRACLE MAN
3. SENSE OF POWER
5. CAN HE RULE HER
Race 7 – 4:10PM SUEZ HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Happy to have SMARTY locked in on top. Was beaten for speed early when resuming over 1100m, but worked her way into the race, only to be pocketed by the eventual winner in the straight and being forced to settle for an eye-catching fourth. Should come forward following that run and from a low draw, sliding down to 54.5kg, Smarty should impact. ON THE TURPS has raced well all prep, but just hasn’t quite got the luck he requires. With a clear crack at these, he can go close. PARADISE SQUARE has Pym’s Royale form and will have admirers, while class runner PUSH TO PASS is next best.
Suggested: 9. SMARTY win.
8. ON THE TURPS
2. PARADISE SQUARE
1. PUSH TO PASS
Race 8 – 4:45PM IRON JACK KALGOORLIE CUP (2200 METRES)
Going a touch wide in the 2019 Kalgoorlie Cup with HE’S A PARKER. Charged through the grades last prep, winning five races including the Pinjarra Cup where he knocked off Cappo D’Oro and Come Play With Me. Form this time in hasn’t been flash, but his Boulder Cup run was better than it reads and the wily Hec McLaren has set him for this race. He’s A Parker the surprise. Darwin Cup winner IHTSAHYMN is unbeaten since joining the Rob Gulberti yard and simply has to rate among the main contenders. As does tough on-pacer SPIRITUAL WARRIOR, and stablemates TOUCH OF SILVER and FIRST AFFAIR.
Suggested: 3. HE’S A PARKER each way.
3. HE’S A PARKER
10. SPIRITUAL WARRIOR
2. TOUCH OF SILVER
8. FIRST AFFAIR
Race 9 – 5:20PM NEOMETALS HANDICAP (1760 METRES)
STOICISM is the horse to beat in the final event on Kalgoorlie Cup Day. Have a bit of time for this fellow and he showed he was in good order with a solid first-up Belmont placing two weeks back. That run should bring him forward significantly and he does appear to be well placed against this line up. Just needs even luck to go close. DECOY NOXIOUS was rock-solid first up in this grade and his best form puts him right in the finish. SCINTILLATING got the confidence-booster he was looking for last time, while MACAVITY had no luck last time and maps nicely with the blinkers on.
Suggested: 3. STOICISM win.
1. DECOY NOXIOUS
