Race 1 – 1:12PM STATEWIDE OIL MAIDEN (1400 METRES)
VENGEANCE OF WAR will be super short, but should just win first up. Was hard in the market at all five starts last prep, going close to breaking through on a couple of occasions, and has been readied for this 1400m assignment with two lead-up Lark Hill trials. Pike should take him straight to the front and dominate the race from there. ROSEICAPILLA had no luck when wide throughout last time and that effort was full of merit. Maps to enjoy a much more comfortable passage in transit. SURE CONVICTION should be thereabouts again, while BLUE TURNS TO GREY is next best.
Suggested: 1. VENGEANCE OF WAR win.
1. VENGEANCE OF WAR
4. SURE CONVICTION
2. BLUE TURNS TO GREY
Race 2 – 1:47PM JOHNNIE WALKER HANDICAP (2115 METRES)
The Pearce Bros have found a perfect option for promising staying type CHAPASCO. Returned to racing with a solid Northam win and followed up with a competitive result against better company than this at Belmont last time. Looks ready for this journey now with two mile runs under his belt and he does appear to have a reasonable class edge on these. ALL MAN had genuine excuses in town last time and his previous Kalgoorlie form was strong. Expecting him to rebound. THE ENCHANTRESS gets back, but should appreciate this small field, and have to respect ANGELIC MOON hailing from the Fernie camp.
Suggested: 1. CHAPASCO win.
2. ALL MAN
5. THE ENCHANTRESS
6. ANGELIC MOON
Race 3 – 2:22PM EBM MAIDEN (1100 METRES)
DIRTY DOT should find the front and give these something to catch. Went close on debut this track/distance and again last start, when breezing outside leader/winner Concrete Madame and boxing on well late. With positivity from McNaught, this filly should go close. EMERALD ROSE has had plenty of chances, but is simply racing too well to ignore. Maps to advantage and has to warrant consideration. First-upper FISHY showed a bit when last in work and is expected to have admirers with Pike on board, while ASTRALANDER is an interesting first-starter and it may pay to monitor the market movements.
Suggested: 10. DIRTY DOT win.
10. DIRTY DOT
3. EMERALD ROSE
Race 4 – 2:57PM GWN7 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Found it hard to look past WOCKNWOLL. Absolutely truck-loaded this track/distance last start and didn’t let her supporters down, making the most of a soft lead to pull away for a dominant 4.6-length victory. Does rise 5kg, but should land in front from the low draw and the way she let down last time suggests she’s going to take some beating again. WHERE’S WALLY has his share of weight coming off a 46-day break, but does look suited in this grade and maps to advantage from gate one. TRUTH AND LIES should get the run of the race, while PASAJERO has some early speed and is a top four chance.
Suggested: 2. WOCKNWOLL win.
1. WHERE’S WALLY
4. TRUTH AND LIES
Race 5 – 3:37PM DFP RECRUITMENT (1300 METRES)
I’M ICEY has to be among the major players. There is a bit of early speed engaged, but this 4YO should be able to hold the lead from his low draw and that is where he does his best racing. Has been competing in stronger races than this recently and if allowed to roll, he’ll be hard to catch. CONCRETE MADAME is coming off a strong maiden win and Pike sticks. With a reasonable run from the high draw, she’ll figure prominently. Stablemate PASTRY lands on-speed and warrants thought, while fellow on-pacers MAGNIFORCE and WATTO’S FURY are not without claims.
Suggested: 1. I’M ICEY win.
1. I’M ICEY
7. CONCRETE MADAME
2. WATTO’S FURY
Race 6 – 4:15PM FIFTH LEG HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
William Pike has a super book of rides on Hannan’s Handicap day and TAP THE GO GO looks another winning chance for ‘The Wizard’. Was really good at her first two runs this prep and after a poor third-up effort she rebounded strongly last time, travelling in the three-wide line and getting to within a half-length of the winner. Form around her stacks up, just needs even luck to impact. Didn’t mind the latest effort of CAMPAIGN at his first run for a new stable. GLUTEN FREE will be fitter third up and was wide throughout last time, while no surprise to see improvement from HIGHEST REGARD.
Suggested: 7. TAP THE GO GO win.
7. TAP THE GO GO
3. GLUTEN FREE
4. HIGHEST REGARD
Race 7 – 4:50PM TABTOUCH HANNANS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
TELLEM WE’RE COMIN is the horse to beat. Settled last first up in the Farnley Stakes and charged late, with that hit out a perfect lead-in to this assignment. Set for this race and the blinkers going on suggests Team Williams mean business, so with clear galloping room he’ll be strongest late. ABDICATOR was right back on top of his game in the Farnley, just missing the win after being three-wide the entire. Maps to enjoy a suitable run on-speed. Local star PYM’S ROYALE is unbeaten on his home track and must be respected, while NEUROLOGICAL and RED PUBLISHER are major players also.
Suggested: 3. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN win.
3. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN
9. PYM’S ROYALE
10. RED PUBLISHER
*Numbers amended after Final Scratchings
Race 8 – 5:25PM AUSTWIDE MINING LIFE MEMBERS GOLDEN WHIP (1400 METRES)
Hard seeing any of these knocking off the front-running NEXT STOP THE MOON. This likely short-priced favourite has been performing strongly in superior races to this at Belmont recently, and with a clean getaway from this low draw, should land in front and control proceedings. CAN HE RULE HER has raced well since arriving in the Goldfields and has to be considered the main danger. Look out for the big-finishing CHHAYA steaming home late, while TUMBLEWEED TANGO has hit a purple-patch of form as a new-season 8YO and should be thereabouts again.
Suggested: 1. NEXT STOP THE MOON win.
1. NEXT STOP THE MOON
2. CAN HE RULE HER
8. TUMBLEWEED TANGO
