Race 1 – 1:49PM WESTERN RACEPIX MAIDEN (2100 METRES)
Low key start to the day and with little confidence settled on 3YO filly SAMANTHA’S TWITCH. Last two Northam mile efforts have been full of merit, and she was forced to cover plenty of additional ground from barrier 11 when beaten only 2.0 lengths last time. Pike goes on and with a typically patient ride, she can break through. UNDER THE ARCHERS has had plenty of chances, but does look the likely favourite in this. Recorded some good 2000m-plus results when last in work. KEBALAH can box on into a top-four finish, while IMPASSABEEL put in her best effort yet at Northam last start.
Suggested: 8. SAMANTHA’S TWITCH win.
8. SAMANTHA’S TWITCH
4. UNDER THE ARCHERS
Race 2 – 2:24PM VALE PIE MARTINOVICH MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
Good contest for the 3YOs and expecting LEVITATE to make an impact on debut. The $40,000 yearling purchase has been well-educated at trials and looked particularly sharp with the blinkers added at his most recent Lark Hill 9/09 heat, finding the front and clearing out to win by 4.5 lengths in fast time. If he can land outside leader from the high draw, he should take some beating. Race-experienced duo ARAGAIN and REAL BEAUTY both have their share of ability and have to be major players, while trial winning first-starters GLOBAL GOSSIP and CAPTAIN KINK map on-speed and warrant consideration.
Suggested: 5. LEVITATE win.
8. REAL BEAUTY
13. GLOBAL GOSSIP
4. CAPTAIN KINK
Race 3 – 2:59PM KIRIN MEGUMI HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
POSITION OF POWER looks the one to beat. Nice-and-sharp in his lead-up trials before a brave first-up performance, finishing a close-up third despite being forced to travel four-wide without cover this track/distance. Huge run under the circumstances and just needs even luck to salute. FRIDAY FILLIES comes through the same race two weeks back, launching late but just missing. Will drift back and charge home again. MINIKA had some excuses when rolled as a $2.10 fave last Thursday and can give this a shake on the quick back up, while first-starter ANGELIQUE’S FAME has caught the eye at trials.
Suggested: 1. POSITION OF POWER win.

3. FRIDAY FILLIES
8. SWANKY LASS

Race 4 – 3:35PM BUDGET CAR & TRUCK RENTAL HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
SCINTILLATING looks well placed in this company. Is coming off back-to-back top-four Graduation Handicap finishes and all the form around him stacks up really well, so he does appear suited coming back in grade. Winning record is an obvious query, but he’s racing in career-best form and should get his chance. Natural on-pacer PRECIOUS CARGO continues to race well and should appreciate coming back to the mile. Fit and in-form, so has to rate highly. AMILLIONITE got the maiden win she was chasing and the Durrant/McNaught combo is flying, while BLUE SANDGROPER can improve sharply.
Suggested: 2. SCINTILLATING win.
4. PRECIOUS CARGO
1. BLUE SANDGROPER
Race 5 – 4:10PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
A bit to work with in this competitive handicap and GRAND DESIGN should be going close. Over-ridden in front when resuming two back and was doing her best work late after running into traffic issues in Graduation Handicap company last time. Maps to advantage from this draw and with a smooth run in transit, she should have the closing speed to get it done. NERODIO is a smart up-and-comer and just needs luck from the high draw to make it three straight wins. The in-form SMART FOX should get it soft from the low draw, while expecting LACEVINSKY to rebound after misfiring first up.
Suggested: 10. GRAND DESIGN win.
10. GRAND DESIGN
1. SMART FOX
Race 6 – 4:45PM SALINGER HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
A fresh GILLESPIE should take some beating in this. Was very well fancied at all five runs prior to a let up and probably should’ve won a couple of them when racing without luck, while being his own worst enemy at times. Certainly has some ability though and the booking of William Pike does look significant for Gillespie. Looking forward to seeing the classy LADY SASS back in action after a WA Derby/Oaks campaign. Look out for her steaming home late. STRATOCREED has had excuses at both runs this prep, while stablemates WAR JEUNE and ARRUM BOY are both expected to fire first up.
Suggested: 9. GILLESPIE win.
10. LADY SASS
7. WAR JEUNE
8. ARRUM BOY
Race 7 – 5:25PM PRIVE FASHION PLATFORM HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Wide-open finish to the day and no surprise to see SWIFT MIRAGE figure prominently. Showed plenty during his initial racing campaign and really caught the eye when resuming in this grade two weeks back, clocking some of the best closing splits on the day. With galloping room from gate one, he should be able to wind up and make his presence felt. ORAVA hasn’t done a lot wrong this prep and looks suited with Paul Harvey on board. One more chance. LOCOMOTIVE can bounce back in this grade, while first-uppers MATAKANUI and BOMBARDIER are both interesting runners.
Suggested: 9. SWIFT MIRAGE each way.
9. SWIFT MIRAGE
