Race 1 – 11:48AM WESTSPEED PLATINUM MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

Not a bad contest to start the day and eager to see what PATY’S FORCAST can produce first up. Put in an eye-catcher when running some of the best late splits of the day at her Northam 30/05 debut, and looked nice and sharp when winning a Pinjarra 12/08 Straight 1000 trial. Has an engine, expected to take some beating. Was impressed with the Lark Hill 29/07 trial win from SHERPA LASS and she’s likely to attract a wave of support on debut. JOVELLA has some ability and is the interesting runner resuming for a new stable, while ALIEN FROM MARS met with support when racing without luck on debut.

Tips: 5-10-3-6
Suggested: 5. PATY’S FORCAST win.

5. PATY’S FORCAST
10. SHERPA LASS
3. JOVELLA
6. ALIEN FROM MARS

Race 2 – 12:27PM SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TROPHY (1200 METRES)

Can make a case for most of these in what looms as a good betting race. Ended up landing on EXCELESTIAL, whose performed very well in two outings so far, chasing home flying filly Mia Dolce both times. Looks suited rising to 1200m and, with blinkers on from the low draw, appears to be major contender. LONG BEACH may have seemed disappointing on debut, but the run had merit and she’s likely to enjoy a much more comfortable passage in transit in this. SOME SORT was really sharp when knocking off a smart one first up at Northam, while first-upper IGARASHI trialled nicely and maps to advantage.

Tips: 4-3-8-5
Suggested: 4. LONG BEACH win.

4. LONG BEACH
3. SOME SORT
8. IGARASHI
5. PLATINUM BULLET

Race 3 – 1:07PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

Found it hard to go against ZARATITE, but 28 days between runs and a couple of recent scratchings is cause for concern, providing the race fit/in form HERE COMES LENNI an opportunity to knock him off. Here Comes Lenni is backing up after a brave effort behind stablemate Spiritual Warrior when forced out of his ground from barrier 14, but should land in a more prominent running position from this low draw. Going to take some beating. Zaratite is an emerging talent, but has had an interrupted prep, while likely leader MAGIC LAS VEGAS and back-marker DEFIANTLY should both figure in the finish.

Tips: 2-3-8-6
Suggested: 2. HERE COMES LENNI win.

2. HERE COMES LENNI
3. ZARATITE
8. MAGIC LAS VEGAS
6. DEFIANTLY

Race 4 – 1:47PM NATHAN BENNETT 40TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

CRYPTIC LOVE and UNI TIME look set to dominate the market, and surprised if one of these don’t win. Opted for Cryptic Love after drawing high and unleashing a big finish last start, and she should be able to hold a midfield running position from this low draw. With even luck she’ll be hard to hold out. Uni Time is very progressive, kicking off his prep with two impressive wins, but not sure he can land in the one-one like last time. Forget GET OVER IT went around last start and expecting him to elevate from gate one, while EXPRESS FLIRT and GO CRYING are both coming off sharp fresh efforts.

Tips: 8-6-3-7
Suggested: 8. CRYPTIC LOVE win.

8. CRYPTIC LOVE
6. UNI TIME
3. GET OVER IT
7. EXPRESS FLIRT

Race 5 – 2:27PM BELMONT NEWMARKET (1200 METRES)

Track specialist GREAT AGAIN is going to give them something to catch. Kept fresh since a last-stride 6/07 defeat and is unbeaten at the Belmont 1200m, so does looks suited and should roll along with only 55kg on his back. Loves ploughing through the rain-affected going also and should get every chance out in front. LOCKROY launched late for a brilliant New Season Sprint win and maps to enjoy a sweet run in transit again. Has to warrant consideration. Looking forward to seeing gifted Victorian TAMASA in action and expecting him to fire fresh, while MULTIVERSE can never be underestimated.

Tips: 5-3-7-6
Suggested: 5. GREAT AGAIN win.

5. GREAT AGAIN
3. LOCKROY
7. TAMASA
6. MULTIVERSE

Race 6 – 3:05PM D’ORSOGNA HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

A couple of smart 4YOs resuming in this and expecting FINAL HEARING to narrowly shade BLACK DUCATI. The now Adam Durrant-trained Final Hearing competed well against some of the best of his division last season and looked in good order when winning his Lark Hill 29/07 trial. Low draw suits, hard to beat. The front-running Black Ducati was put away after a dominant Bunbury debut win, but has shown enough in her recent trials to suggests she can make a splash first up. THREE SECRETS dug deep to win first up and has some class about him, while WHY CHOOSE HER is flying and can impact down on 52kg.

Tips: 2-3-11-7
Suggested: 2. FINAL HEARING win.

2. FINAL HEARING
3. THREE SECRETS
11. WHY CHOOSE HER
7. ON THE TURPS

Race 7 – 3:40PM BRENDAN KANE 60TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Any doubts on the talent of ESSENTIAL SPICE were put to bed with her electrifying last-start victory, smoking her rivals over this track/distance and clocking some rare closing splits in the process. You don’t see horses win like that too often and it’s hard seeing anything being able to match her late. PYM’S ROYALE definitely should’ve finished closer to Essential Spice last start and no surprise to see him make a contest of it. FLOYD hasn’t been sighted since his quality Bolton Stakes performance and simply has to be respected, while everything went wrong for GLASGOW GIRL last start.

Tips: 5-3-2-7
Suggested: 5. ESSENTIAL SPICE win.

5. ESSENTIAL SPICE
3. PYM’S ROYALE
2. FLOYD
7. ESTIVAL MISS

Race 8 – 4:20PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

Big fan of NEUROLOGICAL and it’ll take something really decent to knock him off. Got out of a jam this track/distance second up when gunning down TAXAGANO late and has been kept on the fresh side since, which was the stable’s plan as they map out a Hannan’s Handicap prep. With cover from a mid draw he should be too strong late. The well-regarded FREE TRADE faced the breeze outside leader last start and was vulnerable late, but no surprise to see him rebound strongly. CHIX PIC and Taxagano fought out the finish last start, and both are obvious major players again.

Tips: 3-12-8-7
Suggested: 3. NEUROLOGICAL win.

3. NEUROLOGICAL
12. FREE TRADE
8. CHIX PIC
7. TAXAGANO

Race 9 – 5:00PM VALE BEAUX ART HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

Good test for the emerging NEXT STOP THE MOON, but expecting him to pass with flying colours. Ultra-impressive two back and followed-up with another strong win, comfortably fending off a spirited Lickety Split challenge. Should relish the mile, maps to lead and is going to be mighty hard to run down. The penny has certainly dropped for BLACK SHADOW, coming off two tough wins also, and the figures he posted last start stack up. He’s a danger, as is DIVINE SHADOW, who swooped over the top of Heavenly Affair and Lookout last start, while DECEPTION GAME and SONNEN both warrant consideration.

Tips: 7-6-9-1
Suggested: 7. NEXT STOP THE MOON win.

7. NEXT STOP THE MOON
6. BLACK SHADOW
9. DIVINE SHADOW
1. DECEPTION GAME
