Race 1 – 12:33PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET PLATE (1000 METRES)
Anticipating a strong debut showing from OBSTINATION. The half-sister and stablemate to star 5YO Gatting has progressed nicely at trials and has the gate speed to take up a forward running position from the draw. Looks to have some strength and class. BRAVE CONTENDER wasn’t suited when landing in front this track/distance last start. With a nice smother in transit, he can hit the finish line hard. NO APOLOGY has produced two solid trials leading into this first-up assignment and maps to advantage, and if fast filly MISS TYCOON can find the rail in front then she’ll be hard to catch again.
Suggested: 8. OBSTINATION each way.
2. BRAVE CONTENDER
4. NO APOLOGY
1. MISS TYCOON
Race 2 – 1:13PM PINK LADIES LUNCHEON – SATURDAY 6 JULY HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Really good clash for the 3YOs and simply had to side with noted wet-tracker DOUBLE BUBBLE. The natural on-pacer has been freshened since towelling up her rivals at Ascot 20/4 and will again be teamed up with 3kg-claimer Jade McNaught. Unbeaten on rain-affected and with a clean getaway from gate one, should hold the lead and take some running down. REBEL YELL got the job done when heavily supported first up. Maps to get the right run from a low draw. Gifted Magic Millions winner SAMIZDAT must be respected first up, while slick on-pacer CATHERINE WHEEL has her share of ability also.
Suggested: 1. DOUBLE BUBBLE each way.
1. DOUBLE BUBBLE
4. REBEL YELL
8. CATHERINE WHEEL
Race 3 – 1:53PM MRS MAC’S HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
While he’s been asked to carry 62kg, it will take a big performance for something to knock off top-quality stayer COME PLAY WITH ME. Coming off back-to-back dominant wins in this grade with 58kg and 60kg, he maps to get a perfect run stalking the leaders and with an uninterrupted passage in transit, he should steamroll his opposition again. SALON DU CHEVAL is a genuine threat though and will be backed to beat Come Play With Me. Finished off strong last start and should settle closer from the low draw. NOIR DE RUE is tough, while BLUE TRACER can add value to your exotics.
Suggested: 1. COME PLAY WITH ME win.
1. COME PLAY WITH ME
10. SALON DU CHEVAL
8. NOIR DE RUE
6. BLUE TRACER
Race 4 – 2:28PM EVENTS AT ASCOT HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Happy to stick with STOICISM. Was three-deep the entire when a brave second-up Ascot winner, before being a moral beaten this track/distance last time, when encountering significant traffic issues in the straight. Have plenty of time for this fellow and with even luck he’ll take some beating. REBEL KNIGHT endured a tough run in a strong race last start and the effort was much better than it reads. Low draw suits and he’s a big chance. DEIMOS is an emerging talent and his first-up midweek win was massive. Will have a heap of admirers, while really liked the effort of BOLD VICTORY last Saturday.
Suggested: 2. STOICISM each way.
3. REBEL KNIGHT
10. BOLD VICTORY
Race 5 – 3:05PM HYPERION STAKES (1600 METRES)
Can’t see anything upsetting special mare GALAXY STAR. Gave everyone a fright when leaving it late to claim a thrilling Belmont Sprint victory as a $1.30 fave two weeks back. Big win considering the shape of the race and her closing sectionals were simply outstanding. Suited up to the mile, unbeaten on rain-affected and she just wins again. GATTING was rock-solid first up and will derive plenty of benefit from that searching hit out. Has gone close to matching Galaxy Star at times in the past. Brave front-runner GREAT SHOT almost caused the Belmont Sprint upset, while MIZLECKI is next best.
Suggested: 5. GALAXY STAR win.
5. GALAXY STAR
1. GREAT SHOT
Race 6 – 3:40PM ILARIO SPAGNOLO 50TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Looks a nice option for quality 3YO LORDHELPMERUN. Liked the way he improved behind the flying Flirtini in a fast 1200m event second up, just peaking late, so there’s certainly upside there. Maps to advantage in a race with a likely genuine tempo and his class should shine through. MOSCHARD let rip with a brilliant burst to claim the Provincial Champs Final this track/distance last time. Genuine chance of making it six straight wins. Big-finishing first-upper ROYAL STATUE goes good and will be steaming home late, while natural on-pacer GLASGOW GIRL ran brilliant time at Northam last start.
Suggested: 5. LORDHELPMERUN win.
10. GLASGOW GIRL
3. DOUBLE DIGIT
*Numbers amended after Final Scratchings
Race 7 – 4:10PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Really looking forward to the return of extra-smart 3YO FRED DAG. Rose rapidly through the ranks to be a major player in autumn black-type events last prep, matching the likes of WA Derby winner Regal Power. Wasn’t knocked around in Lark Hill 4/6 trial and with clear galloping room from the low draw, he’s going to take some beating. PEARLS AND PRAWNS is another gifted first-upper and if she produces her best she’ll be winning. Should get her chance from the nice draw. The up-and-coming STATE ATTORNEY won well second up, while FINALLY FRENCH has his confidence up after two strong wins.
Suggested: 5. FRED DAG each way.
5. FRED DAG
3. PEARLS AND PRAWNS
11. STATE ATTORNEY
2. FINALLY FRENCH
Race 8 – 4:40PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Plenty of chances in this and wouldn’t be surprised to see MULTIVERSE make his presence felt. A winner at five from eight Belmont outings, this fellow really caught the eye over 1000m first up when running into traffic issues in a bunched finish. Maps to enjoy a suitable run behind an expected faster-than-average tempo and handles the rain-affected. FINE SCENT was brave in defeat second up and that run should see her peaking third up. She’s another that enjoys the sting out. BLACK SABBATH is a class 3YO that warrants respect, while NIKITAS has trialled super ahead of his WA debut.
Suggested: 7. MULTIVERSE each way.
12. FINE SCENT
15. BLACK SABBATH
