RACE 1 SALINGER PLATE 12:34 PM (1300M)
Hard not to be taken with the debut win of THE VELVET KING and reckon he can account for the obvious horse to beat KELLY’S CALLISTO. The Velvet King maps to come across early and race outside likely leader SNOWCHINO, and considering the way he steamrolled his opposition last time, he’s going to take some running down. Kelly’s Callisto climbed off the canvas to upset the highly-rated Special Reward last start and maps to enjoy a sweet run parked behind the leading pair. Progressive filly ANGELIC RULER is expected to be strong on the line, while Snowchino can box on well late.
Suggested: 2. THE VELVET KING win.
2. THE VELVET KING
1. KELLY’S CALLISTO
7. ANGELIC RULER
RACE 2 TABTOUCH HANDICAP 1:14 PM (1000M)
Tricky race and ended up taking a leap of faith with THE NINTH HOUR. Scratched from Belmont Wednesday and saved for this, and must be showing plenty in training for the stable to be racing first up without a trial. Maps to lead or box seat and he showed enough promise last prep to suggest he’s capable of measuring up to this grade. I AM INCREDIBLE is on the seven-day back up and has been racing against much stronger opposition. Expecting positive tactics. DEEP COVER was huge in defeat second up and will be well found with Pike on, while big-finisher SNOW BLOSSOM is an interesting first-upper.
Suggested: 8. THE NINTH HOUR 1 x 3 units.
8. THE NINTH HOUR
1. I AM INCREDIBLE
4. DEEP COVER
3. SNOW BLOSSOM
RACE 3 SWAN RIVER VASE 1:54 PM (2200M)
Only the seven starters in the first running of the Swan River Vase, but it’s an interesting contest all the same. AT THE READY was mighty in the Strickland Stakes, flooding home and clocking the second fastest last 200m of the day. Gets some handy weight relief under the conditions and, as a backmarker, the small field really suits. Should be too strong late. GATTING has tried his heart out all prep and deserves to win one. Will be interesting to see what tactics they employ in a race without a designated leader. FALCON CREST is the obvious third pick, while DARK ALERT could be the blowout.
Suggested: 4. AT THE READY win.
4. AT THE READY
2. FALCON CREST
3. DARK ALERT
RACE 4 GRANT THORNTON HANDICAP 2:33 PM (1200M)
Not many horses are racing as well as MAX ALMIGHTY in WA at present and this event looks set up perfectly for him. Chased home boom mare Enticing Star twice before a massive performance two weeks back, coming from last and clocking the fastest last 200m of the day. Suited from low draw and regular senior rider Pat Carbery back on board is another box ticked. SEEKER made the most of a perfect run in transit to post an overdue win last time. Well placed down on the 54kg limit and is in career-best form. REBEL KING is the best horse in the race, while IT’S IT can give some cheek out in front.
Suggested: 4. MAX ALMIGHTY win.
4. MAX ALMIGHTY
1. REBEL KING
2. IT’S IT
RACE 5 HEINEKEN 3 HANDICAP 3:10 PM (1200M)
This looks a terrific option for DANNY GEORGE, who maps to enjoy the run of the race in transit. Rated highly when winning first up and was beaten by the barrier last time, when settling last and managing to churn out the fastest last 400m and 600m of the day. Really smart type and he’s drawn to win this. STREET FURY is the obvious main danger, however, she has an awkward draw to contend with. Classy enough to still find a way to win. Likely leader DISRUPTIVE should enjoy coming back to 1200m with the blinkers on, while SWEET DREAMIN’ was strong on the line first up but the draw hinders.
Suggested: 3. DANNY GEORGE win.
3. DANNY GEORGE
2. STREET FURY
8. SWEET DREAMIN’
RACE 6 SEACORP HANDICAP 3:45 PM (1400M)
Hard to go past ATLANTA BLUE and he stands out as the obvious one to beat. Rated highly when runner up at his past two and was really motoring to the line behind the flying Great Again last time. Drawn to land in the first four/five and Pike being booked is another positive. No value there, but looks the winner. On-pacer GEIGER GEM was brave in defeat in this grade last time and should enjoy coming back to 1400m. Rolls forward and goes close again. STOICISM has some class about him and can run a big race first up, REYKJAVIK is coming off a confidence-building win and CHHAYA looks the blowout.
Suggested: 1. ATLANTA BLUE win.
1. ATLANTA BLUE
2. GEIGER GEM

RACE 7 MRS MACS HANDICAP 4:20 PM (1200M)
Looks the right race for BONNY BE GOOD to notch up her first win for her new stable. Was a little rusty at her first two outings this prep, but was really strong on the line in midweek company last start and was probably a good thing beat. Her best form rates very highly, Pike goes on and she’s drawn to win. Have a bit of time for first-upper GOMER WIPPLE and he caught the eye in his 2/07 trial. Gets back and charges late. PINSSON looks ready to produce his best at this stage of his prep and maps leader’s back, while MINUS LOOKS is due for some luck and racing better than his form suggests.
Suggested: 9. BONNY BE GOOD 1 x 3 units.
9. BONNY BE GOOD
4. GOMER WIPPLE
8. MINUS LOOKS
RACE 8 PSC INSURANCE HANDICAP 4:57 PM (1600M)
Really good race the last and exciting three-year-olds TELLEM WE’RE COMIN and NECKLET are the obvious top two selections. Tellem We’re Comin has unleashed powerful closing speed to win both runs this prep and only bad luck appears to stand in his way. Destined for big things. Necklet was very stiff when unable to get clear galloping room in the Belmont Guineas. She has a tricky draw to contend with here. A couple of not-so-obvious contenders are RIPPER RIO, who was huge in defeat last time and maps to enjoy a softer run in transit, and LUKE’S GOLD who should’ve finished much closer last start.
Suggested: 5. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN win.
5. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN
4. RIPPER RIO
14. LUKE’S GOLD
