Race 1 – 11:29AM FREE SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN AT BELMONT PARK PLATE (1400 METRES)
Hard not to notice the debut effort of RATION ALY and she looks hard to beat rising to 1400m. Was last on straightening on that occasion, but produced a superb final 200m burst to run on into fourth, and she should improve naturally with that experience under her belt. Still very raw, but certainly has an engine. COME RIGHT BACK comes through the same race as Ration Aly and with Pike on looks the likely favourite. Will no doubt relish the rise in distance also. Didn’t mind the second-up run from MING XING, while FUEL THE FRIAR showed a bit at trials and can improve on debut showing.
Suggested: 6. RATION ALY win.
6. RATION ALY
2. COME RIGHT BACK
5. MING XING
7. FUEL THE FRIAR
Race 2 – 12:04PM CORNER GRILL MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
Anticipating a strong first-up showing from MEXI COLA. There was a bit of a spruik around on this fellow last campaign and he was on a rushed WA Derby prep, but wasn’t quite ready and was sent for a short spell. Likely to have matured nicely during the last four months and simply must respect the Lindsey Smith stable. Market movements will be telling also. BLITZ ‘EM BOOTZ caught the eye when having no luck on debut. Pike sticks and with a clean getaway, she goes close. RICH TURF will be fitter second up, should roll forward and box on late, while stablemate ALLURING maps to advantage.
Suggested: 6. MEXI COLA each way.
6. MEXI COLA
11. BLITZ ‘EM BOOTZ
10. RICH TURF
Race 3 – 12:39PM PERTH RACING CLUB MEMBERSHIP MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
This looks the right race for BOOTLEG RASCAL to break through. Has been well supported in two runs this prep and has competed strongly on both occasions, just finding one better. Adam Durrant should have him peaking third up and does map to enjoy a suitable passage with Pike on board. Gets his chance. BRUCE ALMIGHTY was a $3.70 chance in the same race at Bootleg Rascal last time and performed well enough on debut. Looks a major contender again. MANHATTAN MONEY has ability, but levels of trust are low after her two defeats this prep, while anticipating improvement from CELTIC DIVA second up.
Suggested: 3. BOOTLEG RASCAL win.
3. BOOTLEG RASCAL
6. BRUCE ALMIGHTY
12. MANHATTAN MONEY
14. CELTIC DIVA
Race 4 – 1:14PM PENINSULA DINING ROOM MAIDEN (1650 METRES)
STABLE GENIUS is due for a change of luck and with a reasonable run should take some beating. Big run under difficult circumstances last start, tramping four-wide the entire but still having the audacity to finish third. The Brett Pope yard are enjoying a purple patch of form and Stable Genius looks well placed. BLACK RUSSIAN caught the eye when running on late first up and will elevate second up over the mile. Does map rearwards from the high draw though. LADY SI DAENG finished alongside Black Russian last time and was perhaps a better run, while RETURN A SMILE had no luck last start.
Suggested: 2. STABLE GENIUS each way.
2. STABLE GENIUS
5. BLACK RUSSIAN
12. LADY SI DAENG
3. RETURN A SMILE
Race 5 – 1:49PM PERTH RACING SECURITY HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
Happy to stick with MELTEME. Liked her from the same draw in a similar race last start and boxed on reasonably well to hold down the minor placing. Thinking she’s capable of improving enough with that 1700m run in the bank and maps to land in the box seat again. BLOOMY’S SUN should be ready to find form third up over the mile. Does like to lay in, so if he can be rails-in-run from low draw he’ll give this a nudge. KELLY’S SECRET is another ready to produce third up, with Pike on the ultimate gear change, while BLACK CHIPS wasn’t a bad effort last start and the blinkers go on from a low draw.
Suggested: 6. MELTEME each way.
4. BLOOMY’S SUN
7. KELLY’S SECRET
3. BLACK CHIPS
Race 6 – 2:24PM OLD MATE’S SPORTS BAR AND EATERY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
One of the more competitive races on the card and keen to roll with SNOWCHINO. Was a complete forgive run two back when everything went wrong, and improved as expected when sent forward and kept out of trouble in a high grade last time. Expecting positive tactics again from the mid draw and this looks her race fourth up. Have a bit of time for ADMIRATION STREET and she’ll be better for the first-up hit out. Maps to land closer from the better draw with a senior rider on. HALAKAL has impressed with back-to-back Pinjarra wins and warrants respect, while ARTIE’S JEWELS will be running on strong.
Suggested: 3. SNOWCHINO each way.
9. ADMIRATION STREET
4. ARTIE’S JEWELS
Race 7 – 3:00PM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Intriguing youngster THE FUGAZI is back in action and at his best, he should be winning. Very costly when beaten twice as a long odds-on fave last prep, but clearly wasn’t right, so those results are not a true reflection of his talent. Gangemi Racing do a good job with their squad and expecting them to have this fellow ready to fire fresh. Really impressed with the two lead-up trial wins from PEARL GIRL and she’s a major player fresh. Going to get it soft from the low draw and Pike is on. Big watch on HEAVENLY AFFAIR, who goes good, while MAGIC PLANET produced an eye-catching fresh run.
Suggested: 2. THE FUGAZI win.
2. THE FUGAZI
7. PEARL GIRL
9. HEAVENLY AFFAIR
1. MAGIC PLANET
Race 8 – 3:35PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Tough race to work through and ended up with TRAKIATO. Have a bit of time for this fellow and he was big first up, racing three wide/no cover and still holding down second late. Suited with Jarrad Noske back on and should slot in from the high draw with a faster-than-average tempo anticipated. LORD LUDLOW followed up his strong trial with a solid fresh effort over an unsuitable 1000m. Can go close. FALSE STATEMENT was pretty brave when winning last start and should enjoy a softer run from the inside alley, while BON VOYAGE and BUNKER BUSTER should both be running on strong first up.
Suggested: 3. TRAKIATO each way.
1. LORD LUDLOW
7. FALSE STATEMENT
8. BON VOYAGE
Race 9 – 4:10PM PENFOLDS HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Good midweek contest this and pretty happy to be siding with BARON BOSTOCK. Knocked off capable duo Essential Spice and Gillespie two back and never saw daylight when hard in the market ($5) in a decent Graduation Handicap last time. Maps to advantage from low draw and has to be a major player. LIPSTICK FLICKERS is humming for her new stable, landing outside leader and dominating this track/distance last time. Very hard to beat again. OKINA KURI attacked the line with strength to win last time, LIDO BEACH hasn’t done a lot wrong all prep, while no surprise to see OUTER DETENTION show up fresh.
Suggested: 2. BARON BOSTOCK win.
2. BARON BOSTOCK
6. OKINA KURI
3. LIDO BEACH
1. OUTER DETENTION
*Numbers amended after Final Scratchings
Race 10 – 4:45PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Tough race if you’re trying to ‘get out’, but if MISSING PRO jumps and leads, she really should be mighty hard to run down. Showed sharp gate speed when fourth in a fast/strong race two back, before being a good thing beat after bungling the start last time. Looks too fast, just needs a clean getaway. CITICHANT is another possible leader and she has to be considered after stretching Danny George down the Pinjarra Straight 1000 last time. That form stacks up. IMPERIAL VENUS has a booming finish and his best is good enough, while YOELQUI competed well at his WA debut.
Suggested: 5. MISSING PRO win.
5. MISSING PRO
1. IMPERIAL VENUS
