Race 1 – 1:15PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET PLATE (1000 METRES)
Thinking first-upper CARABINIER can hold the lead from an inside draw and prove very hard to get past late. Showed a bit last prep whan taking on some smart opposition, and looked nice and sharp with the blinkers on when wining a Lark Hill 27/5 trial. Stable usually has their youngsters wound up and ready to fire fresh also. PROTECTED ACTION comes through a strong form race down the Pinjarra Straight 1000 and maps to land in the box seat. Should get his chance. Pike has opted to ride BRAVE CONTENDER and he warrant respect, while first-starter CRYSTAL SPRINGS has shown enough at trials.
Suggested: 3. CARABINIER win.
2. PROTECTED ACTION
1. BRAVE CONTENDER
7. CRYSTAL SPRINGS
Race 2 – 1:49PM TRACY LEE 60TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
COCKATIEL has some ability and appears ready to peak at this stage of her prep. Covered additional ground in transit and was forced wide on the turn at Pinjarra 22/5, but really caught the eye with the way she hit the line late. Should get every chance from the inside alley and has a handy weight swing on the other main fancies. LUKE’S CHOICE did a fair bit wrong, but was still good enough to score a decisive last-start Pinjarra win. Should go from strength-to-strength with Luciani stable. OVER THERE possesses a big finish and can win at her best, while JUPITERS SUN rounds out the top four.
Suggested: 4. COCKATIEL win.
1. LUKE’S CHOICE
2. OVER THERE
6. JUPITERS SUN
Race 3 – 2:24PM WESTERN RACEPIX MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
ERISTIC looked the goods in his Lark Hill 20/5 trial win and looks the one to beat first up. Bounced straight to the lead on that occasion, and cleared out to easily account for subsequent provincial placegetters Friar Tuck and Worth Square. With positive tactics from the mid draw should find the front and take some catching. Have a bit of time for MANHATTAN MONEY and she looks the main danger. Wasn’t fully tested in her recent Lark Hill trial and should be attacking the line with strength late. REGAL MAGIC and FINANCIAL SUPPORT map on-pace from low draws, and both will have admirers.
Suggested: 6. ERISTIC each way.
11. MANHATTAN MONEY
10. REGAL MAGIC
4. FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Race 4 – 3:00PM IRON JACK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Really looking forward to seeing smart type GILLESPIE back at the track. Looked above average last prep and showed he’d come back bigger and better with an impressive Lark Hill 20/5 trial win against decent opposition. Expected to roll forward to take up an on-pace running position and should be too good from there. ESSENTIAL SPICE wasn’t too far away in a strong race first up and will appreciate the inside alley. Has her share of ability also. BARON BOSTOCK finished alongside Essential Spice last time and maps to advantage also, while MANKIND will be getting back and running on.
Suggested: 4. GILLESPIE win.
3. ESSENTIAL SPICE
1. BARON BOSTOCK
Race 5 – 3:35PM THE PENINSULA DINING ROOM HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
Tricky race and with low confidence sided with BARBIE WILL DO. Have always had a bit of time for this mare and liked the way she worked home from the rear of the field first up over 1400m. Does appreciate being ridden patiently, so likely to settle in the back half, but she’s more than capable of running on strong and making things interesting late. SEA SPRING is racing consistently and really gets her chance in this. Fought out the finish in a higher grade last time and has to be a major player. DELECTABLE DOLLY is another who’ll drift back and run on, while BANTRY is a likely improver.
Suggested: 1. BARBIE WILL DO each way.
1. BARBIE WILL DO
7. SEA SPRING
4. DELECTABLE DOLLY
Race 6 – 4:10PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Simply couldn’t look past UNENDING. Was mighty in defeat on the three-day back up last start, racing three-and-four wide the entire, sustaining a searching forward move and still managing to hold on to second in stronger company than this. That run was too big to ignore and with a more favourable passage should be saluting. PURE GEM had no luck also last start when covering plenty of additional ground in running. Boxed on really well considering and he’s a genuine contender. PRESS THE PETAL is rarely far away, and both her and NOT AGAIN KEN can win this at their best.
Suggested: 6. UNENDING win.
5. PURE GEM
2. PRESS THE PETAL
1. NOT AGAIN KEN
Race 7 – 4:45PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Have a strong opinion of DEIMOS and expecting him to give this a shake first up. Enjoyed a strong initial racing campaign, running some big races against reasonable opposition, and looked in good nick when trialling in impressive fashion at Lark Hill 27/5, matching motors with some talented types. Will no doubt drift back from the draw, but if the pattern is fair and the gaps appear, he has the closing speed to impact. Likely leader DRIFTSTAR will take some catching, first-upper NICCONI’S BOY maps to advantage, while SALUBRIOUS caught the eye last time and could be ready to fire third up.
Suggested: 4. DEIMOS each way.
3. NICCONI’S BOY
*Numbers amended after Final Scratchings.
