Race 1 – 11:59AM MORLEY GROWERS MARKET MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
Expecting CYWER to take some beating on debut. Has shown plenty of promise and been well educated at trials, taking a gap between runners and stretching out stylishly to win her latest Lark Hill 25/01 heat. Stable is in terrific form and if Shaun McGruddy can find some cover from this draw, Cywer can hit the line hardest. STEEL’S THE DEEL maps soft from gate one and can work into a place firs up. MARCHAMLEY competed well on debut and gets his chance again from on top of the speed. CONTENTO BOY wasn’t all that far away in a stronger race last start and haven’t minded what debutante DUCHESS DREAM has produced at trials.
Suggested: 10. CYWER win.
1. STEEL’S THE DEEL
4. CONTENTO BOY
11. DUCHESS DREAM
Race 2 – 12:34PM WESTERN RACEPIX MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
ROKANORI will be all the rage on debut. A $165,000 yearling purchase, this colt is unbeaten in two Lark Hill trial outings and is expected to be send forward to lead or race outside leader. Shaken up from there he’s going to prove really hard to get past. Did like the way FORLANE attacked the line in his Belmont 31/01 trial but will be spotting the on-topper a decent head start. BLUE SKATES strips fitter and maps well second up, PENNYS AFIELD has to be a top four chance following a solid debut performance, while the trial form from REGAL ACCESS suggests he’s going to win races.
Suggested: 7. ROKANORI win.
9. BLUE SKATES
10. PENNYS AFIELD
6. REGAL ACCESS
Race 3 – 1:09PM SEACORP MAIDEN (1400 METRES)
AMERICAN TROOP stands out. Ran on nicely when resuming before being a good thing beaten two weeks ago, when experiencing traffic issues in the straight. Kept out of trouble by Brad Rawiller, American Troop looks set to break through. Blinkers go on SO LIKABLE and anticipating positive tactics from the draw. Can box on well late. MULTINOVA MAN was solid on debut and can elevate with the race experience, while the best of QUEEN’S GIFT puts her right in the finish, and the well-bred CAPE PRIDE can find the front and show some cheek on debut.
Suggested: 2. AMERICAN TROOP win.
2. AMERICAN TROOP
3. SO LIKABLE
4. MULTINOVA MAN
9. QUEEN’S GIFT
7. CAPE PRIDE
Race 4 – 1:44PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1400 METRES)
The Bazeley camp are enjoying a purple patch and they can keep the positive results rolling with WHO’S ME DADDY. Caught the eye two back and followed up with a fast-finishing 1400m Pinjarra 30/01 result. Landing midfield and given galloping room in the straight, Who’s Me Daddy gets it done. KIA ORA JEWEL is the obvious danger. Has run well against better opposition in the past and she’s expected to go close first up from a low draw. Fellow fresh horse FEAR THE WIND isn’t without claims after a WA Derby prep, while likely leaders HART TRADER and ROMMEL’S JEUNEY can roll along and give a kick.
Suggested: 4. WHO’S ME DADDY win.
4. WHO’S ME DADDY
11. KIA ORA JEWEL
3. FEAR THE WIND
10. HART TRADER
8. ROMMEL’S JEUNEY
Race 5 – 2:19PM AMELIA PARK LODGE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Leaning towards HENCHARD first up. Was really good at all three outings during his initial campaign and showed he was ready to let rip first up with a quality Lark Hill 25/01 trial result. Stable is absolutely flying and positively handled by Chris Parnham, Henchard takes some beating. PROBITY was coming off a freshen last start so he can come further forward. Maps soft from the low draw. FOREVER DREAMING was the same SP and wasn’t too far behind Probity last start, so he’s a major player again. MISS FIELD settles at the tail and rattles late, while NIIGATA is next best.
Suggested: 2. HENCHARD win.
4. FOREVER DREAMING
5. MISS FIELD
Race 6 – 2:54PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Happy to be on board with MRS AMERICA. heavily supported first up but got the wobbles late in the race after travelling three wide/no cover the entire. That hit-out provides a good platform to launch second up and she maps sweetly from this low draw. CELEVACCI resumes and looks a handy horse in the making. Trialled up nicely at Lark Hill 25/01 and expected to impact. BLONDE WARRIOR was super stiff first up and while she loses CJP she does gets Dhurun’s 2kg claim. NEVER SOBER is suited back in this company and GOLD MERITS is bursting to win one soon.
Suggested: 7. MRS AMERICA win.
7. MRS AMERICA
11. BLONDE WARRIOR
4. NEVER SOBER
9. GOLD MERITS
Race 7 – 3:34PM AUTUMN ASCOT RACING CARNIVAL 19TH MARCH TO 25TH APRIL HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
Nice placement from the Gangemi Bros with SHE’S A SWEET DEEL. Ran into a really smart one in Burnya To Survive last start and the way she raced, it appears as though she’s looking for the mile and beyond now. Plenty has to go right from the high draw, but if they’re making ground on the day she can swoop past them. ALL IN RED hasn’t done much wrong in two Ascot outings this prep and has to be a factor again. I AM SPARTACUS was excellent in the Mt Barker Sprint but is 1300m to 1650m. The in-form MAKFLY gives himself every chance on top of the speed, while BANDALERA BEAU isn’t without claims also.
Suggested: 7. SHE’S A SWEET DEEL win.
7. SHE’S A SWEET DEEL
9. ALL IN RED
2. I AM SPARTACUS
3. BANDALERA BEAU
Race 8 – 4:15PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
Found it hard to separate the top three selections and eventually sided with SPEEDBIRD. Hardened at the mile now, utilising her big finish to win her past two outings, and thinking she may even settle a pair closer than her main dangers. With an uninterrupted passage in transit Speedbird can launch past them again. KICK A GOAL SON has been stiff not to win his past three and likely has to do it from last on this occasion. Still has the closing speed to salute. Few would’ve missed the first-up effort from NATIONAL GUARD and while he loses Pike he still has to be respected, while LUKE’S CHOICE and SHOES OF EKRAAR are top four hopes also.
Suggested: 4. SPEEDBIRD win.
6. KICK A GOAL SON
13. LUKE’S CHOICE
8. SHOES OF EKRAAR
11. THE VERDICT
*Numbers amended after scratchings
Race 9 – 4:50PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
Locking in VALENCY on top. Have been tracking this filly closely and her latest listed Breeders Classic result suggests she’s got some talent. The rise to the mile and an awkward barrier draw are challengers, but ridden patiently by Jade McNaught Valency has the class to make a splash late. MR BRILLIANT is coming off a strong maiden win and looks set to dictate proceedings out in front. BELL LAP returns from a let up and is a fairly promising 3YO also. Can lead but more than likely box-seats from this low draw, while FIND YOUR MAN is getting close and KEEPER SWEET is improving with every start.
Suggested: 9. VALENCY win.
4. MR BRILLIANT
3. BELL LAP
1. FIND YOUR MAN
6. KEEPER SWEET
Race 10 – 5:30PM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Going again with ZOUDINI. Was a good thing licked in the last event of the day last Wednesday when unable to access clear galloping room in the straight. Back to the 1000m is interesting, but no surprise to see this fellow drop out and charge home strongest late. First-upper BUMPER HUMPER has a class edge on most of these and if she produces her best first up for a new stable they probably won’t catch her. SHORT TALK is 1200m back to a 1000m after winning, but hives herself every chance on top of the speed, while AL QUEPONE is in the mix and big watch on THE WITCH DOCTOR first up for Adam Durrant.
Suggested: 3. ZOUDINI win.
4. BUMPER HUMPER
5. SHORT TALK
2. AL QUEPONE
11. THE WITCH DOCTOR
