Race 1 – 12:39PM TABTOUCH-BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
SOMETHINGREADY is a 4YO on the rise and she’ll take some beating. Was very stiff behind Pepper Assault two back and made amends this track/distance last start with quite a strong maiden win. Cutaway’s in play again, so should get the uninterrupted, clear run she requires. TIME SCALE is a Saturday horse really and is well placed in this grade, but 1400m back to 1000m is the query. Short-course specialist POKER FACE is going for four straight but loses Holly Watson, while SMASHING goes good but hasn’t fired on two wet tracks so far this prep.
Suggested: 5. SOMETHINGREADY win.
3. TIME SCALE
2. POKER FACE
Race 2 – 1:14PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
HE’S A SIZZLER was one of the runs of the day first up and he’s expected to go one better here. Is 1000m to 1400m and rises 60kg under handicap conditions, but he does look to have a talent edge on these and just needs to be kept out of trouble by Chris Parnham. Hard not to like the way AMERICAN TROOP has attacked the line in his two outings so far. Looms as the biggest dancer. SPIRIT ROSE led and boxed on first up and the Blazing Away formlines read well. GOLDFRAPP was solid enough on debut to be considered a top four chance again.
Suggested: 1. HE’S A SIZZLER win.
1. HE’S A SIZZLER
2. AMERICAN TROOP
7. SPIRIT ROSE
Race 3 – 1:49PM AMELIA PARK MAIDEN (1200 METRES)
Wide-open maiden this but THE INVISIBLE MAN can roll forward and give this a shake. Like what he’d produced at trials and his debut effort was rock-solid when leading and getting overhauled late by Somethingready. Positive tactics from this high draw will be required. SONGS AND LYRICS caught the eye in his Lark Hill 16/07. Drawn sweetly to impact on debut. HEAVENLY MISS was encouraging as a $6.50 chance on debut, while GORGEOUS GUS has been knocking on the door at Northam so far this campaign.
Suggested: 2. THE INVISIBLE MAN win.
2. THE INVISIBLE MAN
4. SONGS AND LYRICS
10. HEAVENLY MISS
1. GORGEOUS GUS
Race 4 – 2:24PM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Improving mare WISE CRACKER can make it two straight. Deserved to break through at Pinjarra 22/07 and after a few anxious moments was driven across the line by Paul Harvey. Stable flying and “The Pontiff” riding in good form also. William Pike going on PRECAUTIONARY is significant. This mare enjoys a low draw also. STELLA FAIR had no luck when very wide throughout three weeks back and can figure in the finish, while STRAKIN looks a likely improver with senior hoop McGruddy back on board.
Suggested: 5. WISE CRACKER win.
5. WISE CRACKER
8. STELLA FAIR
Race 5 – 3:00PM ALL FLAGS SIGNS AND BANNERS HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
DREAM EVIL ticks a few boxes. Broke through well when resuming at Pinjarra 8/07 and follow-up effort behind Miss Vasari was decent. Maps soft from gate two and should get it done saved up for one run with the cutaway in play. STARLIFT is an honest mare and has to be suited with “The Wizard” William Pike on board. Drawn to get every chance also. THE WHITE WITCH has some ability and no surprise to see her run a race first up, while the likes of PALAVER and DOMINEER are possible blowouts.
Suggested: 2. DREAM EVIL win.
2. DREAM EVIL
5. THE WHITE WITCH
Race 6 – 3:35PM PERTH RACING CLUB MEMBERSHIP HANDICAP (1700 METRES)
Suitable option for CONQUERED ZONE to go back-to-back. Won a similar race to this three weeks back after a patient ride from Pike. Similar tactics with the cutaway in action and Conquered Zone should be too strong late. MOOD GODDESS should be close to a peak performance at her third run in. Settles rearwards and runs on late. Likely leader NEXT STOP THE MOON can roll along and take some catching, while MISS ZEDEL suffered cardiac arrhythmia when $4.20 last start and can rebound.
Suggested: 3. CONQUERED ZONE win.
3. CONQUERED ZONE
4. MOOD GODDESS
2. NEXT STOP THE MOON
7. MISS ZEDEL
Race 7 – 4:10PM BUDGET CAR & TRUCK RENTAL HANDICAP (1700 METRES)
Could the the day for GUNNAGO. Last two 2000m-plus efforts in higher grade than this have been only fair, but he was placed on a Saturday over the Belmont mile three back and looks much better placed at this level. Shaun O’Donnell on could be a masterstroke also. BOLLINGER BOY continues to try hard in this grade but can’t quite crack it for a win. William Pike may be the edge he requires. Likely leader SUPER TEROITOA is not far from a win and is always a competitor late in races. ALLEZ ALLEZ is a major player, while PORPHYRIO is better than what his recent results suggest.
Suggested: 1. GUNNAGO each way.
5. BOLLINGER BOY
3. SUPER TEROITOA
2. ALLEZ ALLEZ
Race 8 – 4:45PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Blinkers and William Pike go on ELAFELLA and he has to be hard to beat. Is a free-wheeling type, so more than likely finds the front, and if he can come back underneath “The Wizard” should have plenty of fuel to keep rolling late in the race. Anticipating a bold first-up effort from CALL AGAIN, coming off a smart Lark Hill 26/07 trial win. A refreshed SKY FIVE gets a sweet run from gate one and was in decent form during the autumn. Backmarker TRUMP THIS has endured an interrupted prep but if right can flash late, while ROSSO TEMPESTA can elevate after a disappointing second-up result.
Suggested: 1. ELAFELLA win.
4. CALL AGAIN
2. SKY FIVE
8. ROSSO TEMPESTA
