Race 1 – 1:14PM ALL FLAGS SIGNS & BANNERS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Progressive filly CHANTREA looks the horse to beat. Interestingly having her first start for Lindsey Smith after previously being prepared by Team Williams, Chantrea scored two smart wins last prep and moved nicely in her Belmont 26/05 trial hit-out. Should stay within striking distance in this small field and has the length of the Belmont straight to work through her gears. WESTERN CHANT could be the one to upset the fave and wouldn’t be surprised to see her sent straight to the front by Kyra Yuill. INTERSTATE is racing consistently, while MISSALFIE worked home nicely at Pinjarra last start.
Suggested: 2. CHANTREA win.
3. WESTERN CHANT
Race 2 – 1:49PM PERTH RACING AT HOME MAIDEN (1000 METRES)
Opinions will be divided between the two main fancies SHE’S ENCHANTED and NEW AMSTERDAM, but with the field position advantage she’s likely to enjoy, going to narrowly side with She’s Enchanted on top. Looked sharp at trials and almost caused a major upset on debut last week when beaten a lip by the highly-regarded Bright Diamond. Only has to hold that rating and she should get the win. New Amsterdam is a horse with serious upside and steps out 28 days after a blackbook debut performance. Maps rearwards, but will be launching late, while TOVARICH and SOUND AWAKE round out the top four.
Suggested: 4. SHE’S ENCHANTED win.
4. SHE’S ENCHANTED
2. NEW AMSTERDAM
8. SOUND AWAKE
Race 3 – 2:24PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Tricky little handicap this one and ended up rolling with THREE EZE first up. Don’t mind this fellow and he did a good job in his initial racing prep late last year, with some pretty reasonable formlines around him. Breezed-up nicely in his Bunbury 4/05 trial, maps soft in gate one and this looks a nice option for him to kick off his campaign. JAKESTAR continues to race well deep into his prep and is on the quick back up after last Thursday’s minor placing. Lands on top of the speed and will appreciate Ramoly’s 3kg allowance. Pike on TRAMIKA first up looks the right mix, while MISINFORMED BEN has pads on but can still impact first up.
Suggested: 5. THREE EZE win.
5. THREE EZE
8. MISINFORMED BEN
Race 4 – 3:00PM GOURMET TAKEAWAY PLATE (1400 METRES)
Good to see some decent numbers lining up in this 1400m 2YO contest and there’s a bit of quality around too, so should be a bit of form to come out of this one. Hard not to side with KALLAROO, who has done plenty right in his two outings so far, and the blinkers going on look a major positive also. Maps soft from gate one and will be hard to hold out. MIYAGI got the closest of any horse has to star youngster Charleton Eddie for a while and the McAuliffe yard are in form at present. DAD’S BIGHEADED has built trust in his three starts and rates highly, while BIG FISH can roll forward and box on well late on debut.
Suggested: 4. KALLAROO win.
1. DAD’S BIGHEADED
7. BIG FISH
10. LUNAR IMPACT
Race 5 – 3:35PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Looking forward to seeing NERODIO back at the races and he stands out as the horse to beat. Has a bit of class about him this fellow and looked the goods in his lead-up Belmont 26/05 trial win, when coasting to the line underneath Jordan Turner. Bar plates going on is not ideal, but going to trust the stable to have him ready to produce his best. A fresh TRUTH AND LIES looks set to give this a shake with Pike in the saddle. Did place over this trip in a hot field at Ascot three starts back, while honest on-pacers STABLE SECRET and STIRLING ESTATE should give their supporters a run for their money.
Suggested: 2. NERODIO win.
4. TRUTH AND LIES
3. STABLE SECRET
12. STIRLING ESTATE
Race 6 – 4:10PM PENFOLDS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
BERET is a filly going places and should be able to take care of business. Let up since recording back-to-back Ascot wins, she should find herself well positioned by Pike from this sweet draw and the likely tempo and race-shape looks suitable. May be a touch vulnerable fresh, but still looks to have enough class. HOTHAM VALLEY loomed to win last week but couldn’t get it done. May have just needed that run to tighten him up and he’s an obvious major player. Have to forget CARLTON CASTLE went around last week when making a mess of the start, while SPEEDY MISS ticks plenty of boxes but was scratched with hoof soreness last week.
Suggested: 6. BERET win.
4. HOTHAM VALLEY
2. CARLTON CASTLE
5. SPEEDY MISS
Race 7 – 4:45PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Classy filly LA VINA will be all the rage in the final event of the day. Scored a strong maiden win two back before running her heart out against some of WA’s best racemares in the listed Gwynne Classic last start. That form looks exceptional coming back to this company and the Lindsey Smith/Lucy Warwick combo has hit a sweet spot recently. SHOWZALI has the talent to stretch La Vina and expecting that first-up hit out to bring her forward nicely. Maps to advantage also from this alley. Same can be said for INDIGO WILD coming back in grade, while no surprise to see DIVINE QUEST run a big race fresh.
Suggested: 1. LA VINA win.
1. LA VINA
2. INDIGO WILD
3. DIVINE QUEST
