Race 1 – 11:42AM TABTOUCH – WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
BUSTER BASH crushed his midweek opposition last start and he can repeat the dose stepping into this company. Was controlled in front by Jett Stanley on that occasion before streaking clear for a six-length win over subsequent winner Ghobella. Sent forward by new rider Kristy Bennett, Buster Bash takes some getting past. Impressed with the two Kalgoorlie wins from STAR PRESENT, when wide throughout on each occasion. Drops 2kg and Pike goes on. SURF POINT was super-stiff not to win second up and has to be a factor in this, as does consistent mare HIP WIGGLE.
Suggested: 1. BUSTER BASH win.
1. BUSTER BASH
9. STAR PRESENT
6. SURF POINT
3. HIP WIGGLE
Race 2 – 12:22PM CROWN TOWERS PLATE (1000 METRES)
Going for the race-fit and in-form filly THE FRONT BAR. Found the rail in front from gate six this track/distance last time and let down strongly for a smart win over He’s A Sizzler and State Of Power. Needs some luck from the outside alley but confident Pike will ensure she gets her opportunity. Like first-upper STORY BOOK as a horse and anticipating a strong first-up result. Should have two wins on the board, having been a moral beat last run before a break. STATE OF POWER bungled the start last time which proved costly. Big effort considering, while first-upper MY FURY has her share of ability also.
Suggested: 2. THE FRONT BAR win.
2. THE FRONT BAR
9. STORY BOOK
8. STATE OF POWER
10. MY FURY
Race 3 – 1:02PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
If WILCHINO turns up this lot are going to struggle to match her. Things went awry down the Pinjarra Straight 1000 first up but she rebounded strongly this track/distance last time, recording a decisive win. Ridden aggressively by Brad Rawiller and she should have these covered. PEARLS AND PRAWNS is back in decent form, building confident in Kalgoorlie recently. Stiff last start when wide/no cover the entire. REQUISITION pulled late ground off Wilchino last Wednesday week and warrants consideration, while DAISHIO is doing plenty right this prep and is suited by a low weight and gate.
Suggested: 4. WILCHINO win.
2. PEARLS AND PRAWNS
Race 4 – 1:42PM BERNARD COUCH MEMORIAL HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
MR DELEGATOR presents apprentice Kate Southam with a big opportunity to boot home her first Saturday metro. Rated well when saluting second up for Southam and new trainer Todd Harvey at Northam 15/07 and does look a horse capable of elevating further. Landing right on top of the speed, Mr Delegator gives this a shake down on 54.5kg. Nothing has gone right for ABERDEEN QUEEN lately and the stable has opted for Pike to get things back on track. She can win. Can’t fault anything VITAL FLIRT has done recently and she has to be respected, while win doesn’t seem far away for BAD WOLF.
Suggested: 5. MR DELEGATOR win.
5. MR DELEGATOR
1. ABERDEEN QUEEN
4. VITAL FLIRT
3. BAD WOLF
Race 5 – 2:18PM MRS MAC’S HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Looks the race for SILKINIZE. Has strong Amasenus form this prep and was one of the runs of the day at Belmont 24/07 when four-wide the entire and only falling a head short of victory. From this draw in this setup, Silkinize should land in the slot and sling-shot passed them late. What an effort by DIA DE LA RAZA to win at $26 and $16 in similar events to this recently. This looks another terrific option for him, so three straight isn’t out of the question. Interested to see how STATE ATTORNEY performs for his new yard, while no surprise to see PHONEME run a cheeky race fresh over the 1000m.
Suggested: 6. SILKINIZE win.
4. DIA DE LA RAZA
3. STATE ATTORNEY
Race 6 – 3:00PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
The more tractable GIANT LEAP got the better of NOTORIOUS ONE last start and anticipating a similar result two weeks later. Giant Leap met with strong support in betting and let down with strength on that occasion and he could be ready to start maximising his talent. With a field position advantage from gate one Giant Leap can get it done. Notorious One has so much ability but still does so much wrong. If he goes straight, lookout! SKINNEN TINS was too good this track/distance last start and just needs to hold form, while DOUBLE SPICE slides in nicely on the 54kg limit and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Suggested: 6. GIANT LEAP win.
6. GIANT LEAP
3. NOTORIOUS ONE
4. SKINNEN TINS
10. DOUBLE SPICE
Race 7 – 3:35PM SEPPELT WINES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
On talent along KAPTAIN KAOS should have these covered. Emerged as a serious type for Michael Grantham in the autumn, working his way through the grades and passing both the eye and clock tests. Does have his work cut out first up from this draw, and no Chris Parnham also, but if he’s on song and gets some luck his quality should shine through. Blinkers go on DUNBAR and tactics will be interesting after being sent forward last start. Execrating Pike to be more patient and attempt to launch late. ZEPHYR QUEEN looks like finding the rail in front and is always dangerous from there. LONEHAND LARRY is still learning but is a live chance, while CAMPESE has trailled nicely since being too bad to be true at his WA debut.
Suggested: 2. KAPTAIN KAOS win.
2. KAPTAIN KAOS
1. ZEPHYR QUEEN
11. LONEHAND LARRY
Race 8 – 4:10PM NGAWYNI STAKES (1400 METRES)
Big fan of LAST OF THE LINE and expecting him to flex his muscles second up. Was working through the gears well enough late in the Bolton Sprint and he should come forward off that rising to a more suitable 1400m. 62kg in what is a strangely handicapped race may anchor him but opting to take him on his best. TOO CLOSE THE SUN is first up back in WA and gets in well under the 62kg topweight condition of this race. Flies fresh and has plenty of class being a Railway Stakes placegetter. Bold front-runner THAT’S FUNNY AZ can measure up, while no surprise to see TRUE ATTRACTION rebound quickly after last Saturday’s forgive run.
Suggested: 1. LAST OF THE LINE win.
3. TOO CLOSE THE SUN
9. THAT’S FUNNY AZ
6. TRUE ATTRACTION
*Numbers amended after scratchings
Race 9 – 4:50PM CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CAREER PETER HALL HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Super-tough “Get Out” this and going to stick with ALL MAN. Thought he’d found his race last start but he couldn’t quite get over Melarab late, but from this low draw and with only 54.5kg he does look a genuine chance of going one better. ARAGAIN is building nicely for Dan Morton and is ready to return to this level. Is versatile enough to make this most of this sweet draw. Apprentice Laqdar Ramoly has won on SUGAR CAIN in the past and she’s edging closer to a win. TENA KOUTOU is highly talented but has a huge task ahead of him from this draw with a junior rider on board, while SOWAR could give the soon-to-be-retired Peter Hall victory in a race named in his honour.
Suggested: 9. ALL MAN each way.
9. ALL MAN
8. SUGAR CAIN
1. TENA KOUTOU
