Race 1 – 11:58AM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM MAIDEN (1600 METRES)
Could make a case for over half of these, but opting to side with ANCIENT REMEDY. Didn’t mind her Pinjarra effort two back and despite being a touch green she hit the line well over 1400m at Ascot last time. Expecting her to relish the rise in trip, maps to advantage and should prove hard to counter. HEAPS OF MOOLAH ran on with strength last start in a race dominated by the on-pacers. Maps rearwards again, but still expected to launch late. I HOPE YOU DANCE deserves to win one and should get her chance on top of the speed, HIP WIGGLE maps ideally up to the mile, while the blinkers go on FLOAT OUR BOAT.
Suggested: 12. ANCIENT REMEDY each way.
12. ANCIENT REMEDY
5. HEAPS OF MOOLAH
8. I HOPE YOU DANCE
11. HIP WIGGLE
3. FLOAT OUR BOAT
Race 2 – 12:37PM LAVERROD WESTERN RACEPIX ASCOT HORSE OF THE YEAR PLATE (1300 METRES)
CHARLETON EDDIE will be dripping in red figures and should justify the short odds with another dominant display. Was all set to make it four straight at Ascot 9/05, but hurt himself in the gates and was scratched as a $1.14 fave. Setbacks are obviously never ideal, but the Casey Combo are absolutely flying and Charleton Eddie should roll to the front and prove too powerful for this lot. DAD’S BIGHEADED does look the standout second pick after two good efforts so far. Looks suited rising to 1200m. As does ROCK HARD OMARU, who was eye-catching on debut, while MISS IVY LEAGUE tries hard and hails from the right yard.
Suggested: 1. CHARLETON EDDIE win.
1. CHARLETON EDDIE
4. DAD’S BIGHEADED
6. ROCK HARD OMARU
2. MISS IVY LEAGUE
Race 3 – 1:17PM HEINEKEN 3 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Expecting boom 3YO RESORTMAN to remain unbeaten. There were big raps on him heading into his first-up assignment and they were justified when shouldering his way out of a pocket and stretching out stylishly late to salute. Has some tactical versatility, but still anticipating positivity from the draw and even if he lands outside likely leader Stella Door in transit, he should still win. Hard not to be impressed with the strength of FUHRER last start and he’s a nice horse in the making. BABY BLUES has done nothing wrong all prep and has to be considered, while IRRITABLE RODNEE is promising plenty.
Suggested: 3. RESORTMAN win.
1. BABY BLUES
6. IRRITABLE RODNEE
Race 4 – 1:57PM PERTH RACING AT HOME HANDICAP (2200 METRES)
No reason why emerging 4YO UTGARD LOKI can’t win again. Brave in defeat in the Diggers Cup, before racing out of his comfort zone when leading the Eurythmic Stakes field and holding all the challengers at bay late. Adapted to that situation with class and the way this race is set up, he should land in a more suitable stalking position in running. He’s the one to beat. Stablemate NOIR DE RUE again appears the main danger, having tracked Utgard Loki throughout last start. Should be peaking now and enjoys racing at Belmont. Back up to 2200m and Pike on suits RED ARMY, while FREEZ’EMOFF ran too well to ignore in the Eurythmic Stakes.
Suggested: 5. UTGARD LOKI win.
5. UTGARD LOKI
4. NOIR DE RUE
1. RED ARMY
Race 5 – 2:34PM GOURMET TAKEAWAY HANDICAP (2100 METRES)
Pretty keen on PICTURE PERFECT. Last start he was three-wide with cover, which was not the place to be on the day, ran into traffic issues and still managed to finish third behind gifted filly Cambist. Big effort on that occasion, looks to map ideally from this draw and the addition of W. Pike is obviously significant. Belmont suits Picture Perfect also. Expecting in-form filly PETTICOAT JUNCTION to handle the class rise and she gets in with a low weight and a sweet draw. Not quite ready to give up on RIVALRY GALORE, VINTAGE STOCK is right back on top of her game, while DEFIANTLY is performing consistently.
Suggested: 3. PICTURE PERFECT win.
3. PICTURE PERFECT
16. PETTICOAT JUNCTION
2. RIVALRY GALORE
9. VINTAGE STOCK
Race 6 – 3:10PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Been eagerly awaiting a glimpse of spruik horse SHOWMANSHIP and he’s set to make a winning return. Knocked off the smart Lipstick Flickers on debut last June and then had no luck at all when rolled as a $1.75 fave in a race won by subsequent Railway Stakes contender Samizdat. Worked to the line comfortably in his Belmont 11/05 trial and if “The Wizard” Pike keeps him out of trouble, Showmanship should have these covered. PLATINUM BULLET has to be respected though and stands out as the main danger. REWRITE THE STARS is gifted but seemingly fragile, while the best of both GLASGOW GIRL and SIR MAMBO really stacks up.
Suggested: 13. SHOWMANSHIP win.
10. PLATINUM BULLET
16. REWRITE THE STARS
4. GLASGOW GIRL
1. SIR MAMBO
Race 7 – 3:40PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Some may be considering jumping MASSIMO, but confident Adam Durrant will have him primed for a peak performance third up. Looked to have his chance to run down Double Bubble last start, but he was coming off a setback and may have simply got anchored by the 61kg. Still there was merit in the effort and he should have the right platform to launch now. MOSCHARD was aided by a classic Pike rails-hugging ride to score third up, but still had to have the jets to get it done. No Pike, but Pateman rides him well and Belmont suits better. BLACK DUCATI was big against pattern second up, MEGAZONE is suited back to 1400m, while PINSSON is absolutely flying.
Suggested: 5. MASSIMO win.
11. BLACK DUCATI
Race 8 – 4:15PM SKYRACING.TV-PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES FINAL (1400 METRES)
Provincial Championship Series Finals are always hard to assess and while this edition is no different, fairly confident POWER OF ST GEORGE will give it an almighty shake. He’s still learning his trade, but has some real weapons and is coming off a dominant Bunbury series heat win. Has a high draw to overcome, but Paul Harvey rides him confidently and with even luck he’ll be right in the finish. The consistent BEE QUICK chased home Power Of St George last start and looks the map horse from this draw. Have a bit of time for ON RED ALERT, Pike on PASTRY looks tasty, while ROSEBUSH never saw daylight last start.
Suggested: 7. POWER OF ST GEORGE win.
7. POWER OF ST GEORGE
10. BEE QUICK
14. ON RED ALERT
Race 9 – 4:50PM IRON JACK HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Pretty tough assignment if you’re looking to get out, but SLICED BREAD does appear to make the most sense. Has enjoyed a solid campaign so far and his last start result was really strong, splitting smart pair Moschard and Festival Miss. That form stands out, has a good record at the mile and should hold a midfield running position from the draw. SON OF BACCHUS has competed well against some smart ones over shorter trips this prep, but looks much better suited in this. Loves the mile and must be respected. BRITISH BESSY and INDIAN CHANT will both be swooping late, while both RESISTANCE and SENTIMENTAL FRIEND have low weights and gates.
Suggested: 3. SLICED BREAD each way.
3. SLICED BREAD
5. SON OF BACCHUS
2. BRITISH BESSY
8. INDIAN CHANT
12. SENTIMENTAL FRIEND
