Race 1 – 11:53AM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM MAIDEN (1400 METRES)
“The Wizard” William Pike has another outstanding book of rides and should get off to a fast start with WESTERN RHYTHM. Was patiently handled from gate eight on debut before letting loose with some of the best closing splits of the day to just miss. Maps closer from this draw and should be coiled up and ready to pounce late. MR DELEGATOR was heavily commissioned as a $1.50 fave first up, but couldn’t get the job done after enjoying a fairly soft lead. The rail wasn’t the best going that day, so it may pay to forgive. HOOLAHOOPS was big run first up at Pinjarra and both she and JONO shouldn’t be maidens for too much longer.
Suggested: 9. WESTERN RHYTHM win.
9. WESTERN RHYTHM
1. REDWOOD RANSOM
*Numbers amended after scratchings
Race 2 – 12:32PM AMELIA PARK PLATE (1300 METRES)
There was a big spruik on REIGN OF FIRE on debut and he certainly lived up to it, charging clear for one of the more impressive 2YO wins seen this season. Settled in the back half and simply blew his rivals away on that occasion, so with a similarly patient Jordan Turner ride he’s expected to make this another one-act affair. KALLAROO appears the best of the rest, with traffic issues proving very costly last start. Will drift back from this alley, but has the closing speed to impact. Liked the way SEVEN KINGDOMS hit the line on debut and may land leader’s back from this draw, while there was merit in the latest LASTING IMPACT result.
Suggested: 1. REIGN OF FIRE win.
1. REIGN OF FIRE
7. SEVEN KINGDOMS
9. LASTING IMPACT
Race 3 – 1:12PM PERTH RACING AT HOME HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Boom 4YO SHOWMANSHIP is coming off a jaw-dropping second-up victory two weeks back and looks set to be sent out at Winx-like odds in this. Was ridden like the best horse by Pike last start and he certainly proved it, dismantling his opposition and looking every bit a group horse. Simply going through the grades this prep, in typical Peters Investments fashion, and Showmanship shouldn’t really break a sweat. MR GENOA was brave in defeat last start when wide throughout and still looming to win. He and FRED DAG look set to fight it out for second, while don’t leave ONE SHORT out of your First Fours as he’s racing better than his numerical form suggests.
Suggested: 6. SHOWMANSHIP win.
5. MR GENOA
3. FRED DAG
8. ONE SHORT
Race 4 – 1:48PM WAROA-BELMONT GUINEAS (1600 METRES)
Wanted to make a case for LAVERROD to upset KAY CEE in the Belmont Guineas, but everything points towards another feature triumph for the outstanding filly. Refused to be beaten first-up in the Raconteur Stakes, unleashing the best closing splits on the day, and is perfectly suited rising to 1600m and sliding down to 54.5kg. Steve Parnham doesn’t have to deviate from what works for Kay Cee and she should propel herself to victory. Laverrod is high class, but will be target practice again for Kay Cee. Pat Carbery’s tactics will be fascinating. Don’t be surprised to see CAMBIST run a bottler fresh, while KARIJINI AURORA ran out of her skin in the Raconteur.
Suggested: 5. KAY CEE win.
5. KAY CEE
7. KARIJINI AURORA
Race 5 – 2:28PM THE TURF CLUB HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Have been a big rap on BRIGHT DIAMOND for a while now and she’s done all the right things, recording two good wins against a couple of handy types in SHE’S ENCHANTED and Puckapunyal. This is an obvious step up, but she moves like a class thoroughbred, and from this low draw Pike should have her sweetly positioned and ready to let rip late. Have been quite taken with MOOD SWINGS recently and his last run wasn’t all that inferior to the much-hyped Windstorm on the day. May fly under the radar, but he’s set to give this a shake. The well-regarded LA VINA will appreciate rising back up to 1200m, while slick filly She’s Enchanted has to be considered on the quick back up.
Suggested: 7. BRIGHT DIAMOND win.
7. BRIGHT DIAMOND
6. MOOD SWINGS
8. LA VINA
5. SHE’S ENCHANTED
Race 6 – 3:05PM ALL FLAGS SIGNS & BANNERS HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Expecting smart customer SON OF A GOD to rebound after flopping last start. Was returning from a let up and never looked comfortable when bustled in the 1000m dash, missing a place as a $1.90 fave. That run should shaken the rust off and while there’s no Pike, this draw over the 1200m looks a much better set up. Spreading the forgiveness around and anticipating a much more competitive effort from SIR MAMBO. That last run was out of character and his previous Showmanship form is strong. Gifted mare PEARLS AND PRAWNS is on the comeback trail from injury and has to be respected, while SKINNEN TINS has been massive at her last two and deserves a change of luck.
Suggested: 2. SON OF A GOD win.
2. SON OF A GOD
1. SIR MAMBO
3. PEARLS AND PRAWNS
5. SKINNEN TINS
Race 7 – 3:40PM MUMM CHAMPAGNE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Very much looking forward to seeing untapped 6YO KING BLITZ back competing and if anywhere near his best, he really should take care of business. Is being handled by 3kg claimer Laqdar Ramoly for the first time, the dreaded bar shoes are on and it is his first run in 56 days, so there is a bit against him, but he does look the real up-and-comer against a field of horses on their mark. Never leave WRINKLY out of calculations and the free-wheeling front runner will give them something to chase as always. Quite liked the WFA run from PUSHIN’ SHAPES last week and he could surprise a few, while MRS BROWN’S BOY and GANGBUSTER could be potential blowouts also.
Suggested: 6. KING BLITZ win.
6. KING BLITZ
2. PUSHIN’ SHAPES
10. MRS BROWN’S BOY
Race 8 – 4:10PM CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Hard to see WESTERN PRIDE not extending her unbeaten run to five. Another from the Peters Investments production line, the 4YO was returning from a long absence two weeks back and her class shone through with a decisive victory. Expected to come further forward second up and with the run she’s likely to enjoy sitting just off a genuine pace, she looks to have a mortgage on this one. Been tracking NO APOLOGY all prep and he appears the biggest danger to the fave. Low weight and gate in his favour. GATES OF BABYLON is absolutely humming and has to rate highly again, while gifted 3YOs POWER OF ST GEORGE and TRADENSIA warrant consideration also.
Suggested: 8. WESTERN PRIDE win.
8. WESTERN PRIDE
15. NO APOLOGY
1. GATES OF BABYLON
14. POWER OF ST GEORGE
Race 9 – 4:45PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Going to try and flip the script over to “Pontiff In The Last'” with Paul Harvey and CRYPTIC LOVE set to give this a big shake. The stable backed off this big-finishing mare after her last Ascot 9/05 performance and while the 1000m may be a touch short, she’ll have the freshness in her legs to launch. Just needs a clear crack at them to make things interesting. MASSIMO is coming back to the 1000m, but will still be very well fancied. Can’t wait to see how he lets down with some cover in transit. PRIM AND PROPER ticks quite a few boxes down on 51.5kg, fellow 3YO filly WE’VE GOT DREAMS can’t be underestimated, while WHY CHOOSE HER has the class to impact first up.
Suggested: 7. CRYPTIC LOVE each way.
7. CRYPTIC LOVE
12. PRIM AND PROPER
10. WE’VE GOT DREAMS
6. WHY CHOOSE HER
