Race 1 – 12:02PM PENINSULA DINING ROOM PLATE (1000 METRES)
Quite a few winning chances in this and ending up leaning towards CLAIRVOYANCE on debut. Has been well educated at trials, knocking off recent winner Mystical View at Lark Hill in March and more recently cruising to a stylish Belmont 22/06 heat win. Either leads on box seats from the low draw and should be suited from there. Anticipating a strong first-up effort from the speedy MINDARIE. Breezed-up well in a 400m Belmont 22/06 trial win and blinkers on is a sign of intent. BOURBON BEAU was too bad to be true on debut, but mid-prep 6/07 trial win and Pike going on indicate improvement is likely, while BORN TO RULE hasn’t done a lot wrong so far.
Suggested: 10. CLAIRVOYANCE each way.
6. BOURBON BEAU
4. BORN TO RULE
Race 2 – 12:42PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Intriguing 3YO contest and going to side with PUCKAPUNYAL on top. Has been a bit stiff to run into the smart Bright Diamond in two outings this prep and she was every bit as good as that filly last start, when working outside leader in transit and getting rolled in a head-bobber. 1400m back to 1200m is the query, but Puckapunyal goes good and the Lindsey Smith yard is on fire. You don’t see many win like SECRET STATUE did at his Pinjarra 25/06 debut. Rising sharply in grade and galloping room from gate one may prove problematic, but still expecting him to measure up, while class types SILKINIZE and PLATINUM BULLET are winning chances also.
Suggested: 5. PUCKAPUNYAL win.
6. SECRET STATUE
1. PLATINUM BULLET
Race 3 – 1:22PM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Very hard to find something to beat emerging filly ABERDEEN QUEEN. Enjoyed a nice run in transit and crushed them at her first start over the mile, carrying the 59.5k to win by 3.6L. The high draw isn’t ideal considering the short odds she’s likely to start, but Aberdeen Queen has a class edge and with some cover in transit, should prove too good again. Thinking STREET FAIR is the biggest threat, having been luckless first up behind the well-regarded Rewrite The Stars. Anticipating sharp improvement from GIFTED WARRIOR with the blinkers on, MODERATOR was a $5 chance taking on Aberdeen Queen last start and tried hard, while BONNEVILLE BLACK could surprise a few first up.
Suggested: 1. ABERDEEN QUEEN win.
1. ABERDEEN QUEEN
8. STREET FAIR
7. GIFTED WARRIOR
6. BONNEVILLE BLACK
Race 4 – 1:58PM SWAN RIVER VASE (2200 METRES)
Under the set weights and penalties conditions, MATERIAL MAN looks to have a mortgage on the Swan River Vase. Remarkable training effort from Justin Warwick to get him to win the Strickland Stakes, only 11 days after rejoining his stable, but the way he powered to victory suggests he could make a mess of this vastly inferior line up. Would be a shock to see Material Man get rolled. Likely leader NOIR DE RUE drops 4kg and is capable of boxing on competitively and making it a JT Warwick quinella. MIZLECKI maps soft and will appreciate a good track, while anticipating significant improvement from out-of-form stablemate TAXAGANO with blinkers and Mitch Pateman on.
Suggested: 1. MATERIAL MAN win.
1. MATERIAL MAN
4. NOIR DE RUE
Race 5 – 2:39PM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
This is his biggest test yet, but very confident boom 3YO WINDSTORM will pass with flying colours. A touch surprised to see him coming back to 1200m and gate one probably not ideal with his running style, but he’s considered one of WA’s most gifted thoroughbreds and the way he savaged the line with the winkers on last start suggests his opponents will struggle to match him. Only bad luck stands in his way, which is hard to believe considering the likes of MASSIMO, CRYPTIC LOVE, SON OF A GOD and BEAUTIFUL MIND are all well above average. Massimo looks like finding the rail in front for the first time this prep and could nick if Windstorm runs into traffic issues.
Suggested: 10. WINDSTORM win.
5. CRYPTIC LOVE
9. SON OF A GOD
3. BEAUTIFUL MIND
Race 6 – 3:15PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Peters Investments look like chalking up another win with INSPIRATIONAL GIRL first up. Has tasted defeat once and was a moral beaten on that occasion, so she’s the real deal, and was doing her best work late in a Lark Hill 29/06 trial. Is a get back/run on type, so does give her opponents a look, but if allowed to wind up uninterrupted good luck holding her out. Thought the first-up run from ABBY LANE was monstrous and he has to be the big danger. VIC import BAD WOLF is really building and can impact, FLOWER OF SCOTLAND has been flying since teaming up with Madi Derrick, while no surprise to see stayers PRINCE TURBO and BLACK SHADOW sprint well fresh.
Suggested: 6. INSPIRATIONAL GIRL win.
6. INSPIRATIONAL GIRL
11. ABBY LANE
3. BAD WOLF
1. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND
2. PRINCE TURBO
5. BLACK SHADOW
Race 7 – 3:50PM BELMONT PARK BOOK A BAY HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Very keen on ROMAN FLIRT. Was one of the runs of the day last start when three-wide no cover throughout, before boxing on bravely into third place. Hoping Pike is positive from the draw and if he can slot in two-wide or at least three-wide with cover, she should get the job done. SENTIMENTAL GIFT jumps up sharply to 2000m second up, but her fresh run was full of merit and looks to have a class and stamina edge over most of these. Ramoly’s 3kg claim should assist. BARAMAGIC settles rearwards, but is more than capable of working his way into the finish, while the best of LA BIONDA and RIVALRY GALORE would see them figure prominently.
Suggested: 4. ROMAN FLIRT win.
4. ROMAN FLIRT
1. SENTIMENTAL GIFT
6. LA BIONDA
3. RIVALRY GALORE
Race 8 – 4:20PM BEAUFINE STAKES (1000 METRES)
Really competitive Beaufine Stakes, but would be surprised if the winner doesn’t come from either MISTY METAL, ESSENTIAL SPICE or SAMIZDAT. Have locked in the brilliant Misty Metal on top first up, having clearly been set for this race and looking ominous in her lead-up trials. Absolutely flies fresh, has a terrific winning record and it’ll take a decent horse to knock her off. Essential Spice suffered a shock first-up defeat, but strips fitter and looks really suited dropping 4kg from this draw. Samizdat is a top-end talent and if he’s allowed to wind up, he can run right over the top of them late, while ELECTRIC LIGHT ran second in this race last year and could be the knockout.
Suggested: 2. MISTY METAL win.
2. MISTY METAL
8. ESSENTIAL SPICE
1. ELECTRIC LIGHT
Race 9 – 4:55PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Confident LEVITATE has the edge on DEVOTED STAR in the last of the day. Was scratched when a heavily-supported fave last Saturday, so that is a slight query, but Levitate has been taking on some very smart 3YOs recently and easily has the best lead-up form of the race. Like the booking of Paul Harvey and if he can slot Levitate into a reasonable running position from this high draw they should come out on top. Devoted Star will have her admirers after the seas parted and she unleashed late to win first up. Has some jets and can make Levitate sweat, while DOUBLE THE PRO, PARIS REPORT and PLAYING MARIKA are set to fight it out for a top-four finish.
Suggested: 4. LEVITATE win.
6. DEVOTED STAR
2. DOUBLE THE PRO
8. PARIS REPORT
5. PLAYING MARIKA
