Race 1 – 2:27PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1100 METRES)
Found it hard to look past SANABREANNA in a thin race for the 2YOs. Raced outside Mia Dolce on debut and while no match for that smart filly, she boxed on well enough late. Expecting her to progress with race experience and with Pike on board, should roll forward and fight out the finish. Stablemate KAZKAZI has caught the eye at trials and with a better gate he may have gone in on top. Expecting him to be strong late. CARABINIER was okay on debut, but looks capable of elevating second up, while CASUAL TRADE has solid trial form and should be able to hold the leader’s back position in running.
Suggested: 7. SANABREANNA win.
3. CASUAL TRADE
Race 2 – 3:04PM SIGN ON GROUP HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Plenty of speed engaged in this scamper, so the early battle for the lead with be interesting, and the horse that looks most suited is first-upper OLGA LOUISA. Has shown promise previously and at her last run before a spell placed behind The Ninth Hour and Festival Miss this track/distance. That form stacks up and from a nice low draw, should get her chance. PRINCE ANDREI steps out for his first run in 140 days, but breezed up nicely in a 400m Bunbury 8/02 trial. Major player. Liked the recent trial from MISS UNFORGETTABLE and Pike is on first up, while REQUISITION is a likely improver.
Suggested: 7. OLGA LOUISA each way.
7. OLGA LOUISA
2. PRINCE ANDREI
6. MISS UNFORGETTABLE
Race 3 – 3:40PM WESTERN RACEPIX HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Quite a few promising 3YOs lining up here and ADORNMENT stands out as the obvious horse to beat. Was really motoring late when falling a long head short last start, but is capable of holding a more forward running position from a lower draw. Mile suits and with even luck should be saluting. EBONY MAGI comes through the same race as Adornment and was brave after trekking three-wide no cover throughout. Maps to advantage and is the main danger. Have some time for COCKY DODD and expecting him to flash late, while the recent trial of first-starter JOVELLA was too strong to ignore.
Suggested: 8. ADORNMENT win.
4. EBONY MAGI
1. COCKY DODD
Race 4 – 4:10PM PIMM’S HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
LAKEVIEW AND STAR could be something special and is expected to take care of business. Dominant in both lead-up trials prior to an exciting Bunbury 28/01 debut victory, coasting to the line ears pricked as a $1.40 favourite. Naturally this is a tougher test and it’s his first time away from his home track, but he appears to be a high-class individual and should just win. INDIAN CHANT chased home Lakeview And Star last start, but had excuses after blowing the start. Like the way he hit the line. First-upper REBEL KNIGHT trialled well at Lark Hill 29/01, while JEDAFFAIR is worth one more chance.
Suggested: 1. LAKEVIEW AND STAR win.
1. LAKEVIEW AND STAR
4. INDIAN CHANT
2. REBEL KNIGHT
Race 5 – 4:40PM DEVILS LAIR HANDICAP (2200 METRES)
Sticking with the luckless ORIENTAL ROSE to record a deserved win. Hasn’t been able to catch a break all prep and really was a moral beaten over this track/distance last time, getting blocked for a rails run at a crucial stage and unsuccessfully protesting against the winner. Suited with senior rider back on and she looks hard to beat. STAFFORD’S LAD can take it up to her though, especially with Pike back on board. Race fit, in form and goes close. BILL’S O’REILLY comes through the same race as Oriental Rose and never saw daylight in the straight, while likely leader RAYARNIE deserves respect.
Suggested: 4. ORIENTAL ROSE win.
4. ORIENTAL ROSE
5. STAFFORD’S LAD
7. BILL’S O’REILLY
Race 6 – 5:15PM LITTLE CREATURES HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
PADDY’S SHADOW is the class horse and with even luck in running should simply be too good. Cleared out for a decisive third-up win this track/distance, before covering plenty of additional ground from barrier 13 as a $7 chance in a strong Ratings 64+ assignment last time. Well placed by an in-form stable and she stands out. LUCKY LINDA LULU is deep into her prep, but continues to race well and should get her chance from the low draw. DANEFIN wasn’t suited when leading at Bunbury 28/01 and expecting sharp improvement, while YEAH BRAVO should roll forward and box on well late.
Suggested: 2. PADDY’S SHADOW win.
2. PADDY’S SHADOW
7. LUCKY LINDA LULU
5. YEAH BRAVO
Race 7 – 5:45PM LAVAZZA HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
LADY SASS is a filly with her share of ability and anticipating a big first-up performance. Ran into a smart one in True Defender when kicking off her previous campaign at Belmont last August, and it was hard not to like the way she found the line in her Belmont 4/02 trial. Needs some favours from the draw, but her class should see her fighting out the finish. PURE MAGNUS was 32 days between runs last time and should elevate with that run under his belt. Suited up over 1400m also. CHAMPAGNE GAL maps superbly with Pike on board, while the penny is starting to drop for DALGARANGA.
Suggested: 13. LADY SASS win.
13. LADY SASS
2. PURE MAGNUS
10. CHAMPAGNE GAL
Race 8 – 6:15PM AUTUMN ASCOT RACING CARNIVAL – BOOK NOW HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Looking forward to the return of smart 3YO THE FUGAZI. This fellow’s always been well-regarded and he progressed rapidly enough to have a crack at the WA Guineas last November, and his run was big under difficult circumstances. Maps to advantage first up and will be hard to hold out. AKVAVIT is the obvious hardest to beat and did knock off The Fugazi when winning her maiden last July. Arguably should’ve won her last two and she ticks plenty of boxes from the low draw. CHECKERS is a major player if he gets a start, while DRIFTWOOD GIRL and THE ESCORT won’t be far away.
Suggested: 9. THE FUGAZI win.
9. THE FUGAZI
7. DRIFTWOOD GIRL
