Race 1 – 12:37PM WESTSPEED PLATINUM MAIDEN (1100 METRES)
Happy to follow-up with VALIDATION. Was really keen on her last start, but handing up the lead proved problematic and she was forced to settle for a minor placing. Expecting more intent on this occasion and if McNaught can have her rolling along out in front, she’s going to take some catching. ZIP ZAM ZOOM will no doubt be better for the run, having returned from a lengthy lay off last start. Maps rearwards from the draw, but has the closing speed to make things interesting. MEGACHINO shouldn’t be a maiden for too much longer, while RAPID TRANSIT has shown plenty at trials.
Suggested: 5. VALIDATION win.
1. ZIP ZAM ZOOM
4. RAPID TRANSIT
Race 2 – 1:17PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1600 METRES)
Peters Investments are up-and-about early this spring and the famous Cerise And White should be saluting via SUBLIME IMAGE. Worked home nicely when resuming at Belmont, and the form out of that race stacks up through subsequent Bunbury winners Jarman and Sentimental Gift. Expected to elevate second up with Pike and winkers added, and just needs galloping room from the inside alley. WINIFER caught the eye first up and should relish the rise to the mile. Should be strong late again. MISS FLAMBOYANCE is a bit stiff not to have won her last two, while INDIAN CHANT was brave in defeat last start.
Suggested: 9. SUBLIME IMAGE win.
9. SUBLIME IMAGE
8. MISS FLAMBOYANCE
2. INDIAN CHANT
Race 3 – 1:57PM MAGIC MILLIONS INITIAL PLATE (1000 METRES)
Very even line up in the traditional Initial Plate for the babies and separating them proved challenging. Eventually settled on CONVENTION on the strength of her dominant Belmont 1/10 trial win, in what was the fastest 1000m heat of the day. With a clean getaway, she maps outside leader and should go close from there. ALMATALK appears the likely leader, having shown impressive speed in her 400m Belmont 7/10 trial. BUMPER HUMPER is another on-pacer, coming off a series of 400m trial wins, while both NEUROLOGIC and STARFIELD IMPACT have genuine claims following their recent trial victories.
Suggested: 7. CONVENTION each way.
6. BUMPER HUMPER
9. STARFIELD IMPACT
Race 4 – 2:33PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (2100 METRES)
Locking in BUNKER BUSTER to make it four straight. The emerging staying talent has certainly taken the next step into his 5YO season and has looked a real pro when getting the job done recently. He runs for McNaught, stays well and should appreciate an anticipated genuine tempo. Put a line through the most-recent result from HERE COMES LENNI and he’s expected to make his presence felt down on the 54kg minimum. AT THE READY has a strong track/distance profile and has to be a threat with Pike back on board, MOSSERATTI continues to hold form, while HIGH ENERGY is a likely improver.
Suggested: 1. BUNKER BUSTER win.
1. BUNKER BUSTER
5. HERE COMES LENNI
2. AT THE READY
6. HIGH ENERGY
Race 5 – 3:10PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Solid contest this and with ‘The Wizard’ Pike booked, keen to side with FRIAR’S FANTASIA first up. Always had time for her and she looks ready to elevate this prep, having stretched out stylishly to win a Lark Hill trial on Monday. Saved up for one run, she can propel herself into contention late. NERODIO is a talent and it’ll take a fair effort to deny him a fourth-straight win. Simply airborne this prep. CREATIVE HERO is the class horse and deserves respect, having already tasted black-type success, while THREE SECRETS maps well and usually fires fresh, and EBONY MAGI is a horse on the up.
Suggested: 8. FRIAR’S FANTASIA each way.
8. FRIAR’S FANTASIA
1. CREATIVE HERO
4. THREE SECRETS
12. EBONY MAGI
Race 6 – 3:45PM CROWN COURTYARD HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
THE VELVET KING can stamp himself as a Perth carnival contender with victory against this hot line up. One of WA’s better 3YOs last season, this fellow appeared super-sharp in his Lark Hill 23/9 trial win, and has already recorded two black-type wins over the Ascot 1400m. Expected to roll forward and grind it out. The gifted FORCEFUL was huge first up and will certainly appreciate Pike being back in the saddle. Both he and the exciting CUP NIGHT will be steaming home late, while likely leader ALPHA SKY was strong fresh and is certainly no slouch, and TAMASA really caught the eye last time.
Suggested: 3. THE VELVET KING win.
3. THE VELVET KING
10. CUP NIGHT
1. ALPHA SKY
Race 7 – 4:15PM CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Thinking this could be a nice race for NELSON’S FLIGHT. Was brave when wide throughout first up this prep, and was a bit stiff again last start, when unsuited by the muddling tempo and attacking the line with strength late. With BEAUCOUNT engaged, this promises to be a more genuinely run affair and Nelson’s Flight maps to land right in the sweet spot. JEDAFFAIR won well second up and should prove very hard to beat again. Ticks plenty of boxes. VELAGO makes things hard for himself, but has undeniable talent, while Beaucount and ZERO DEMERITS both have to be considered major players also.
Suggested: 10. NELSON’S FLIGHT each way.
10. NELSON’S FLIGHT
15. ZERO DEMERITS
Race 8 – 4:50PM CROWN PERTH-3YO CLASSIC (1000 METRES)
Exciting clash of some top-shelf 3YOs and fairly keen on Peters Investments filly CELEBRITY QUEEN. Looked the goods at trials before making a major impression on debut, gunning down the smart Some Sort and clocking the standout sectionals of the day. Love this draw for her and with a hungry Pike in the saddle, Celebrity Queen stands out. Magic Millions winner JERICHO MISSILE looked nice-and-sharp in a Lark Hill 23/9 trial and maps ideally from the sweet alley. Really like MASSIMO as a horse and no surprise to see him figure, while high-class duo DIG DEEP and MISS WEST COAST must be respected.
Suggested: 13. CELEBRITY QUEEN win.
13. CELEBRITY QUEEN
2. JERICHO MISSILE
1. DIG DEEP
12. PLATINUM BULLET
*Numbers amended after Final Scratchings
Race 9 – 5:25PM CROWN SPORTS BAR HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Has a bit against her with an outside alley in this full field, but LADY SASS has the weapons to overcome. Couldn’t have been more impressive in her first-up midweek win, with an uninterrupted passage allowing her to showcase her ample closing speed. With a reasonable run in transit and clear galloping room, she’s going to be mighty hard to hold out. PEPPIJACK was very good against quality opposition first up and maps to advantage from his low draw. GO CRYING is a progressive type and can give this a shake, while STRATOCREED and BEAUTY KANAS are both capable of making their presence felt.
Suggested: 7. LADY SASS win.
7. LADY SASS
4. GO CRYING
10. BEAUTY KANAS
