Race 1 – 12:39PM AMELIA PARK BEEF HANDICAP (1800 METRES)
MIKIMOTO is the obvious, however, don’t be surprised to see MEDIA BARON take it up to her. Got a long way back from barrier 14 third up over this track/distance and did a big job to run on into fourth in a particularly fast race. Will drift back again, but smaller field suits and expecting him to be charging late. Mikimoto is well regarded, but has been set a task rising to 1800m third up with 59.5kg. The inside alley means she’s going to get a cozy run in transit though. DECOY NOXIOUS has to be considered after his super midweek win, while BELLA’S IDOL is a major player on the quick back up.
Suggested: 4. MEDIA BARON each way.
4. MEDIA BARON
3. DECOY NOXIOUS
2. BELLA’S IDOL
Race 2 – 1:24PM MARK PETERSON 60TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Boom 3YO SAMIZDAT will be all the rage and deservedly so, but it was hard not to be impressed with the recent midweek win of GRAND DESIGN and with a 6kg pull in the weights, she can make things interesting. Let loose with some standout sectionals on that occasion and with a clear galloping room she’s a chance of causing the upset. Samizdat looks the real deal, but the 28 days break, 60kg and 1100m are all slight queries. Not a lot went right for SEVEN CASTLES when a beaten $2.05 fave first up, but expecting him to rebound, while an in-form CAERHELAN maps to advantage and drops 5.5kg.
Suggested: 6. GRAND DESIGN each way.
6. GRAND DESIGN
9. SEVEN CASTLES
Race 3 – 2:04PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
With a clean getaway strong from barrier one, CAROCAPO should be finding the rail in front and proving very hard to catch. Just had to do a touch too much work early to cross and lead from barrier 13 last time, but should hold up comfortably and does look suited coming back to 1100m. Don’t underestimate PYM’S ROYALE though, who was strong first-up in a good form race at Pinjarra. High draw and 60kg make it a tricky task, but he’s classy enough to overcome. HOBOKEN went whack last Saturday and simply won too well to ignore, while MY DEMI was huge late behind star sprinter Fabergino last time.
Suggested: 4. CAROCAPO win.
1. PYM’S ROYALE
8. MY DEMI
Race 4 – 2:45PM SUPREMACY STAKES (1000 METRES)
Small but select Supremacy Stakes and looking forward to seeing what IS A BOMBSHELL can produce on raceday. Have been tracking this filly closely at trials, and like the way she attacks the line with class and strength. Does map rearwards, but expecting her to work through her gears on the turn and launch late. RIO DEL MAR is the spruik horse after her impressive Lark Hill 25/2 trial effort. Hails from the right camp and from gate one will attract a wave of support. AMARILLO ROSE has the gate speed to cross and lead, while PRIM AND PROPER almost upset smart filly Niccovi last time.
Suggested: 6. IS A BOMBSHELL win.
6. IS A BOMBSHELL
7. RIO DEL MAR
2. AMARILLO ROSE
4. PRIM AND PROPER
Race 5 – 3:20PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1500 METRES)
This looks the right race for THREE SECRETS. Has raced three times since returning from injury and with even luck, arguably should’ve won two of those outings. Has a better draw on this occasion, so maps to enjoy a more suitable run in transit, perhaps in the first four, and from there he’s going to take some beating. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND was brave in defeat when three wide/no cover throughout last time. Maps to advantage from low draw and can’t be taken lightly. Likely fave MIDNIGHT SKY flashed late first up and will be expecting to do the same here, while FAIR SONARI leads and go close.
Suggested: 7. THREE SECRETS win.
7. THREE SECRETS
3. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND
2. MIDNIGHT SKY
1. FAIR SONARI
Race 6 – 3:55PM CAMBRIDGE INSURANCE BROKERS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Found this a tricky race to assess and ended up locking in ROCKON TOMMY on top. Should be fitter after two runs for his new stable and he did box on well after leading them up over 1400m last Saturday. Suited with regular rider Peter Knuckey back on board, and he should lead and take some getting past. ABDICATOR didn’t fire first up in the Scenic Blast Stakes, but stretched out well enough in his mid-prep Lark Hill trial. Expecting him to bounce back, stablemate FIVE DEGREES has impressed in her two recent trials and can show some cheek fresh, while SPECIAL DELIVERY is flying and drops 5.5kg.
Suggested: 4. ROCKON TOMMY each way.
4. ROCKON TOMMY
8. FIVE DEGREES
6. SPECIAL DELIVERY
Race 7 – 4:30PM CROWN SPORTS BAR HANDICAP (2400 METRES)
Couldn’t look past UPWARD OTHERS. Overall record isn’t flash, but he’s really come into his own this campaign and with a bit more luck probably should’ve won his last three. Really appears to get his chance from the sweet draw and has the right platform to run out a strong 2400m. WITNESS IN COURT stands out as the main danger, working his way into peak form. Coming off a big Narrogin Cup effort and with a patient ride should be in the finish. STAFFORD’S LAD will appreciate a low draw and a senior rider, HIGH ENERGY maps to advantage again, while BARRY’S RABBIT shouldn’t be underestimated.
Suggested: 9. UPWARD OTHERS win.
9. UPWARD OTHERS
3. WITNESS IN COURT
13. STAFFORD’S LAD
8. HIGH ENERGY
Race 8 – 5:10PM HOWARD HULL 50TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Going to side with CLASSIC PRO. Really caught the eye in the Magic Millions 3YO and was held up at a vital stage last start. Should enjoy a soft run in transit from the low draw and if the gaps appear, she’s more than capable of getting it done. Victorian import PLUTOCRACY is expected to be heavily supported first up in WA after a smart Lark Hill 25/2 trial win. Ticks plenty of boxes and the market will tell a story. LITTLE FISH was huge first up at Pinjarra, but has another high draw to contend with, while ITS NOT TRADING is flying in the Great Southern and deserves this opportunity in town.
Suggested: 12. CLASSIC PRO each way.
12. CLASSIC PRO
2. LITTLE FISH
7. ITS NOT TRADING
