Race 1 – 2:27PM CROWN PERTH MAIDEN (1100 METRES)
Liked the way SHUWISH found the line in her Lark Hill 14/01 trial and anticipating a forward showing on debut. A half-sister and stablemate to the smart Broker, this filly did want to lay-in in that 950m heat, however, a lugging bit has since been fitted and obviously William Pike will be an asset. With a patient ride, she’ll be strong late. Have an opinion of fellow first-starter UNI TIME and with a better draw would’ve had him on top. Lead-up trial win was impressive and look out for him launching late, while on-pacers LOOKOUT and I AM SPARTACUS are both promising and obvious top-four hopes.
Suggested: 13. SHUWISH each way.
7. UNI TIME
6. I AM SPARTACUS
Race 2 – 3:04PM D’ORSOGNA HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Locking in LOOKUSOVER on top. Should be fitter after a competitive first-up effort behind subsequent city winner Macroy, and she did elevate significantly second up when last in work. Likely to land somewhere in the first four from the low draw, perhaps outside leader, and should go close. METRO BOY is the class runner and he produced an encouraging first-up result against decent opposition. Has drawn a little awkwardly, but should get his chance to work into the race with the rail out 14m. MONASH was stiff last week when encountering traffic issues, while PRECIOUS LIBERTY is next best.
Suggested: 6. LOOKUSOVER each way.
2. METRO BOY
8. PRECIOUS LIBERTY
Race 3 – 3:45PM OWNERS ONLY-SUPPORTING WA RACEHORSE OWNERS HCP (1000 METRES)
Impressed with the first up victory of THE WITCH DOCTOR and confident she can measure up to this company. Ran time when blowing her rivals away in a Belmont 7/01 trial and took that form to Narrogin 25/01, with her sharp turn of foot resulting in the fastest last 400m split of the day. Needs some favours from the draw, but with even luck should give this a shake. DAISHIO was a beaten favourite first up, but lost no admirers. Coming back to 1000m is a query, but she goes good and must be respected. Anticipating a sharp fresh effort from UNIBRO, while CONCRETE MADAME is a likely improver.
Suggested: 7. THE WITCH DOCTOR each way.
7. THE WITCH DOCTOR
6. CONCRETE MADAME
Race 4 – 4:15PM EVENTS AT ASCOT HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Hard not to be enthusiastic about NO MEAN FEET after his dominant Ascot 19/01 win, doing all the work on top of the speed and skipping away in the straight to gap his rivals. That race is proving to be a strong form reference and if he can work forward to settle outside leader from the high draw, he should control the race from there. Get back/run on type TYCOON LEGEND is backing up after yet another luckless display last week, when a moral beaten. If the runs come he’ll make things interesting. TYCOON MIKADO has ability and should go close, while PATIENCE PHILLIPS caught the eye last start.
Suggested: 1. NO MEAN FEET win.
1. NO MEAN FEET
3. TYCOON LEGEND
2. TYCOON MIKADO
8. PATIENCE PHILLIPS
Race 5 – 4:45PM PSC INSURANCE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Nice option for BURGOYNE. Hasn’t been far away this prep, and is coming through a high-pressure affair at Bunbury 13/01 when stalking a searing tempo and competing well late. That workout provides her with a perfect platform to launch third up, and with Pike on from gate one, she ticks plenty of boxes. Have plenty of time for WITHOUT REASON and he was a good result when a strong winner second up. Going to get back from the high draw, but will still be swooping late. Likely leader ACERMETRIC should box on, while APPARITION is promising, but has a tricky barrier to overcome.
Suggested: 9. BURGOYNE each way.
6. WITHOUT REASON
Race 6 – 5:20PM AMELIA PARK BEEF HANDICAP (1800 METRES)
Have been tracking DEIMOS all campaign and this looks a winnable race for him. Overcame difficulties in running to record his maiden win two back, before hitting the line hard from back in the field at Pinjarra 24/01. Unlikely to get that far back on this occasion and with even luck should be fighting out the finish. VINTAGE STOCK ran into a smart one in Coming Around last time and has to be a major player in this, despite the outside alley. SUMMIT TRAIL was $4.20 to $3.60 at Bunbury 28/01 and have to respect that SP profile, while SOULSANA should be close to peaking at his third run in.
Suggested: 3. DEIMOS each way.
8. VINTAGE STOCK
5. SUMMIT TRAIL
Race 7 – 6:00PM OFF THE TRACK-SUPPORTING RETIRED WA RACEHORSES (1400 METRES)
Competitive handicap this and sided with STRATOCREED. Not many stables going better than the Harvey Racing combo at present and the fellow was game in defeat in strong company over 1500m at Ascot 19/01, when setting a much faster-than-average tempo out in front and only getting swamped late. All the form around him stacks up and he should get his chance on top of the speed. The very gifted MEDIA BARON was super when running on first up at Bunbury 16/01. Expecting him to give this a nudge. The blinkers should enhance DICKOLETTO, while SUPERIOR SMILE was big first up in a higher grade.
Suggested: 3. STRATOCREED each way.
4. MEDIA BARON
5. SUPERIOR SMILE
