Race 1 – 3:15PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

Not a bad midweek 2YO contest and looking forward to seeing what smart trial winners SMASHING and RECITING do on debut. Locked in Smashing on top after she led with blinkers on in a Belmont 14/02 heat and cruised to a 2.7L win in good time. Is a full sister to Lordhelpmerun, so the pedigree is an obvious positive, and she looks the one to beat. Reciting has trialled like a horse with a heap of raw talent. Maps soft from this draw and will go close. CHAMPAGNE DIVA improved significantly second up and has to rate highly, while AGENT KENSINGTON had no luck whatsoever in the Magic Millions.

Tips: 10-9-4-2
Suggested: 10. SMASHING win.

10. SMASHING
9. RECITING
4. CHAMPAGNE DIVA
2. AGENT KENSINGTON

Race 2 – 3:50PM D’ORSOGNA HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

A bit of potential crossing swords in this 3YO midweeker and if CHATTER SESSION can bring her best, she’s going to take some beating. Nailed late by Guesteen when returning from a freshen two back and was even against quality opposition in the Magic Millions Trophy last start. Well placed back in grade, 3kg claim and gate one appears positives, and she should get her chance. Emerging filly PARIS REPORT is chasing a hat-trick of wins and does appear very hard to beat again. TALLADEGA bolted in at Narrogin debut, but this is obviously harder, while SAUVEGARDE rolls forward and boxes on.

Tips: 2-3-4-1
Suggested: 2. CHATTER SESSION win.

2. CHATTER SESSION
3. PARIS REPORT
4. TALLADEGA
1. SAUVEGARDE

Race 3 – 4:20PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Like the looks of tough filly GUESTEEN and think she can take care of business. Was a good thing beat in the Forest War race this track/distance two back, but made amends last time with a surging win against some reasonable 3YO opposition. Freshened with the 25-day break and she has the engine to match these older horses. 1000m specialist SMART FOX has to warrant strong consideration first up. Pike on from a low draw and the lead-up trial win are all positives. Have a lot of time for first-upper PROCONSENT, he can win, while FAIRVIEW carried 60kg to win last start and is a major player again.

Tips: 6-4-3-2
Suggested: 6. GUESTEEN win.

6. GUESTEEN
4. SMART FOX
3. PROCONSENT
2. FAIRVIEW

Race 4 – 4:50PM MRS MAC’S HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Peters Investments 4YO TRULY GREAT could be the go first up. Has been off the scene for some time now so there is a chance of ‘ring rust’. but he’s looked quite stylish in both lead-up trials and should be primed for a big fresh result. Has a staying pedigree, but does possess the gate speed to be close enough from the low draw and will be launching late. REWRITE THE STARS was scratched from Saturday and saved for this, and the bar plates are off after a brave first-up run. Must consider. MORGS FREEMAN and SOLID AZZA are flying, but both map rearwards and will have to get their skates on late.

Tips: 4-6-1-2
Suggested: 4. TRULY GREAT win.

4. TRULY GREAT
6. REWRITE THE STARS
1. MORGS FREEMAN
2. SOLID AZZA

Race 5 – 5:20PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

If TIME TO SIZZLE brings her A-game she should be winning. Couldn’t have been more impressive when smashing the clock to win first up in December, but things haven’t gone to plan since and trainer Martin Allan has basically had to start again. Mid-prep Belmont 20/02 trial was encouraging and with a clean getaway, she should hold the front and be too slick. SNIPPY MISS does appear the obvious danger though, with McNaught back on a positive. Should stalk the leaders and get last crack at them. First-upper BABY BLUES has ability, big watch, while the speedy ALEXIS OLYMPIA shouldn’t be discarded.

Tips: 7-1-8-2
Suggested: 7. TIME TO SIZZLE win.

7. TIME TO SIZZLE
1. SNIPPY MISS
8. BABY BLUES
2. ALEXIS OLYMPIA

Race 6 – 5:50PM LEAPLINGS DINE FOR FREE HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Luke Fernie has given comeback apprentice Kate Southam a terrific opportunity aboard lightning quick front-runner ZIEBELL. Looks well placed coming back in grade, having taken on some talented 3YOs at his most recent outings, and with a clean getaway, Ziebell should find the rail in front and prove extremely hard to run down. COMFORT ME has his share of ability and showed he had some courage too with a fighting debut win at Bunbury. This is harder, but he can measure up. SEMIGEL is back to his best and has to be considered, while trial winning first-upper CAPTAIN KINK is an interesting runner.

Tips: 4-5-7-1
Suggested: 4. ZIEBELL win.

4. ZIEBELL
5. COMFORT ME
7. SEMIGEL
1. WIENER WALTZ

*Numbers amended after Final Scratchings

Race 7 – 6:20PM CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

This could be the day for ZACKARIAH BEAU. Doesn’t win too often, but this fellow has been absolutely flying this time in, but as a get back/run on runner he always needs plenty to go right. Still, in-form senior rider Joe Azzopardi going on does look a major positive and if Zackariah Beau can be within striking distance on straightening, he can swoop over the top late. YULONG EARTH has his quirks, but has plenty of raw ability and it’ll be interesting to see how he goes for W. Pike. Can win again. KING BLITZ goes good but 1200m to 1600m is a query, and KELLY’S CALLISTO appears next best.

Tips: 5-3-1-2
Suggested: 5. ZACKARIAH BEAU each way.

5. ZACKARIAH BEAU
3. YULONG EARTH
1. KING BLITZ
2. KELLY’S CALLISTO
