Race 1 – 12:24PM TOURISM WA TROPHY (1000 METRES)
Found it hard to look beyond STARFIELD IMPACT. Dictated terms out in front to score a strong Crystal Slipper Stakes win last time, having argubaly been a good thing beat at her first two outings. Looks the likely leader again and is the obvious horse to beat. The only two runners that you can make a strong case for are AMERICAN CHOICE and CHOICE BID, who should come forward after being no match for Starfield Impact on debut. If the fave doesn’t turn up, one of these will win, while first-starter MINDARIE has trialled well enough and is a full sister/stablemate to the very smart Specialism.
Suggested: 1. STARFIELD IMPACT win.
1. STARFIELD IMPACT
4. AMERICAN CHOICE
2. CHOICE BID
Race 2 – 1:04PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
After a jaw-dropping debut win, THIS’LL TESTYA will be all the rage, however, no surprise to see the smart SILKINIZE stretch the likely short-priced fave. Only fell in when odds-on last start, but sitting outside leader on a slow tempo is not his go, and if he can hold leader’s back, stalking a more genuine pace, you’ll see a much more explosive Silkinise. Few win like This’ll Testya did at Bunbury and if she’s as good as they say, may simply blow these away. Emerging type ZENAZE has to be considered backing up, while first-uppers CITY CIRCLE and COMING AROUND have their share of class.
Suggested: 7. SILKINIZE win.
12. THIS’LL TESTYA
9. CITY CIRCLE
1. COMING AROUND
Race 3 – 1:44PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Peters Investments looks set to get on the board early with MIDNIGHT SKY ready to win. Should’ve gone close to knocking off team mate Forceful this track/distance two back and caught the eye when having little luck in the Jungle Mist Classc last time. Maps to get the right run from this draw and with only 54.5kg should be strongest late. Likely leader NELSON’S FLIGHT will prove hard to counter though, dropping 4.5kg after a solid last-start win. JEDAFFAIR is tough and honest, and maps supberly from this draw, while INFLATION had genuine excuses last time and don’t rule out LORDHELPMERUN.
Suggested: 8. MIDNIGHT SKY win.
8. MIDNIGHT SKY
4. NELSON’S FLIGHT
Race 4 – 2:24PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Have to go again with REBEL KNIGHT. Was really keen on him last week and everything appeared to be going to plan, however, William Pike couldn’t get him into the clear until it was too late. Should’ve won comfortably, but The Wizard will be determined to make amends and happy to follow up with Rebel Knight. CAROCAPO was just about career-best last start, overcoming a slow getaway to score a powerful win. Starts are an issue but that effort was too strong to ignore. Likley leader THE NICCONIAN is a major player on the quick back up, while DUTCH SPY and SETTLERS CREEK can both win at their best.
Suggested: 6. REBEL KNIGHT win.
6. REBEL KNIGHT
4. THE NICCONIAN
1. DUTCH SPY
2. SETTLERS CREEK
Race 5 – 3:00PM TABTOUCH-SIR ERNEST LEE-STEERE CLASSIC (1400 METRES)
Going to the well again with MASSIMO. His fans have been rewarded for sticking with him recently, and in his last three victories Massimo has stamped himself as one of the most exciting youngsters in WA. Step up to 1400m shouldn’t be an issue and with Pike guiding him, he should find a way to win again. SANABREANNA is a major danger though, having run her heart out behind Tuscan Queen in the Champion Fillies Stakes. This filly goes good. WA Guineas winner WAR SAINT should find the rail in front again and make his presence felt, while LAVERROD is untapped and simply must be respected.
Suggested: 2. MASSIMO win.
1. WAR SAINT
Race 6 – 3:35PM ASCEND SALES-JUNGLE DAWN CLASSIC (1400 METRES)
Pretty happy to be with BEAUTIFUL MIND. Rated her on top in the Jungle Mist Classic, but she couldn’t match the powerful finish of ELECTRIC LIGHT over 1200m. Poised to elevate significantly over 1400m third up, and may even find herself in front, so if she can dictate the terms, good luck getting past her. Electric Light is the obvious horse to beat, but the 1400m and a high draw are genuine queries. Will need a mighty effort to win. Lovely option for PERFECT JEWEL, coming back from a Railway Stakes and drawing sweetly, while it was hard to ignore the way BEL MY PAGO hit the line last start.
Suggested: 10. BEAUTIFUL MIND win.
10. BEAUTIFUL MIND
2. ELECTRIC LIGHT
1. PERFECT JEWEL
7. BEL MY PAGO
Race 7 – 4:10PM GLENROY CHAFF-AJ SCAHILL STAKES (1400 METRES)
After two luckless runs STAGEMAN can right some wrongs. Convinced he should’ve run second in Colonel Reeves Stakes as well as last week’s G1 Winterbottom Stakes, when held up badly on both occasions. New to 1400m, but with a patient Pike ride, Stageman should still have enough fuel to launch late. FLIRTINI is in devastating form and deserves favouritism after a monstrous Winterbottom effort. Very hard to beat. UNI TIME has taken all before him this prep and can measure up to another acid test, while last year’s winner ARCADIA PRINCE looks ready to peak third up, and FLOW is a 1400m specialist.
Suggested: 8. STAGEMAN win.
11. UNI TIME
7. ARCADIA PRINCE
Race 8 – 4:50PM MAGIC MILLIONS-KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC (1800 METRES)
TUSCAN QUEEN is poised to be crowned the new queen of WA racing. Out to emulate 2018’s superstar winner Arcadia Queen, she was awesome in the Champion Fillies Stakes, and with a sweet draw and only 50kg, certainly has a lot in her favour. ‘The Wizard’ Pike knows what to do and Tuscan Queen is a clear standout. Untapped stablemate SUPERSTORM could spoil the coronation though. Huge in the WA Guineas and will thrive stalking an anticipated genuine tempo. Outstanding filly KAY CEE must rate highly also, while Railway Stakes combatants REGAL POWER and BEST OF DAYS are the best of the older horses.
Suggested: 16. TUSCAN QUEEN win.
16. TUSCAN QUEEN
15. KAY CEE
8. REGAL POWER
5. BEST OF DAYS
Race 9 – 5:30PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (2100 METRES)
Really keen on BRITISH BESSY in the last of the day. Comfortably claimed a similar event to this two back and despite finishing 8th, was one of the runs of the day over 1800m last Saturday. Much better suited back up in trip, maps to get a lovely midfield passage in transit and with even luck, should prove mighty hard to beat. SENTIMENTAL GIFT chased home British Bessy last time and is the obvious danger again. Very promising staying type. BROTHER’S KEEPER is a major player back in grade, while HERE COMES LENNI and HIGH ENERGY both stay well and warrant serious consideration.
Suggested: 8. BRITISH BESSY win.
8. BRITISH BESSY
11. SENTIMENTAL GIFT
1. BROTHER’S KEEPER
2. HERE COMES LENNI
10. HIGH ENERGY
