Race 1 – 12:19PM TOURISM WA TROPHY (1000 METRES)
Found it hard to seperate stablemates FLYING MISSILE and ULTIMATE COMMAND, but with Flying Missile likely to be railing in front she ended up getting the nod. Marked her on top on debut two weeks back and while she performed well, she did get tired at the end of 1100m, so the drop back to 1000m will suit. Chris Parnham on has to be a positive also. Ultimate Command looked classy when running time in her 1000m Belmont 23/10 trial win. Expected to roll forward from the mid/high draw any may be forced to burn excess fuel in the process. ASTRAPE competed well on debut but was very green and Pike will have his hands full with this gifted filly, while POLICIERE went in the blackbook after her Lark Hill 16/11 trial but has a sticky draw to contend with.
Suggested: 6. FLYING MISSILE win.
6. FLYING MISSILE
9. ULTIMATE COMMAND
Race 2 – 12:59PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Promising 3YO BRAGWELL looks well placed taking on the older horses in this Graduation Handicap. Placed in this grade prior to a close-up Fairetha Stakes effort and a strong fifth in the WA Guineas, where he probably should’ve finished a length closer to stablemate winner Watch Me Dance. Has been a little tardy away recently, but if Shaun McGruddy can get to begin cleanly he should be prominently positioned and he slides in sweetly on the 54kg minimum. Eastern states import PHONEME is doing some really nice things and was huge in defeat two weeks back. Will need to carry 60kg from back in the field to win though. Like MR DELEGATOR as a horse and he can roll forward and measure up to this grade, while if Alan Kennedy can find cover with TIFF HAS SPOKEN he’ll give this a big shake.
Suggested: 11. BRAGWELL win.
8. MR DELEGATOR
5.TIFF HAS SPOKEN
Race 3 – 1:39PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Looks a decent setup for a fresh PLUTOCRACY. Enjoyed an excellent previous campaign with seven top-three finishes from eight outings, and he raced without luck several times so the record should read even better. Looked sharp enough in his Lark Hill 16/11 trial and with sufficient galloping room from gate one, Plutocracy can give this a nudge. LONG BEACH may have appeared a little plain in defeat last start, but there was a lot of merit in the performance and Carocapo has franked the form since. He’ll take some beating. Anticipating a bold first-up showing from SHINJU, who has a good track profile, while GATES OF BABYLON was scratched with a virus last Saturday but if right he’s a major player.
Suggested: 6. PLUTOCRACY win.
5. LONG BEACH
4. GATES OF BABYLON
Race 4 – 2:19PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (2200 METRES)
Funny old race this one, with some key riding changes and a host of winning chances drawn wide, so it looks as though it could be a suitable assignment for BRITISH BESSY. Feel as though she’s not far away and her latest effort behind Midnight Blue was really tough when you consider the heavy lifting she did early on top of a fast tempo. Should get a more economical run from this alley and British Bessy is worth consideration. Terrific opportunity for VIC apprentice Carleen Hefel wearing the Cerise And White aboard Perth Cup smokey MIDNIGHT BLUE. Looks a tough steer from the draw, but the horse goes good. COME RIGHT BACK, ADORNMENT and MOSSERATTI all finished top five in the feeder race to this last start.
Suggested: 6. BRITISH BESSY win.
6. BRITISH BESSY
1. MIDNIGHT BLUE
3. COME RIGHT BACK
Race 5 – 2:54PM ASCEND SALES – JUNGLE DAWN CLASSIC (1400 METRES)
Expecting to see TYCOON STORM and Brad Parnham make amends. Was really keen on their chances in the Jungle Mist Classic two weeks back and confident that with clear running in the straight they would’ve saluted. Big chance of getting hemmed away again from gate one, but she’ll relish the rise to 1400m and just needs galloping room late. Can CHANTREA continue her unbeaten streak? High-quality mare, but this is her toughest assignment yet first up at this level beginning from an awkward alley. SERENITY BAY was terrific first-up in the Carbine Club Stakes and that result suggests she’s come back better than ever, while NAUGHTY BY NATURE is coming off a driving heavy track win and has to rate among the major players, despite being 1600m back to 1400m.
Suggested: 10. TYCOON STORM win.
10. TYCOON STORM
6. SERENITY BAY
7. NAUGHTY BY NATURE
Race 6 – 3:30PM TABTOUCH – SIR ERNEST LEE-STEERE CLASSIC (1400 METRES)
Can’t wait for this mouth-watering clash between boom 3YOs WESTERN EMPIRE and CHANTORQUE, but siding with the Cerise And White to come out on top. Western Empire was massive in defeat in the Fairetha Stakes before an equally impressive WA Guineas performance, coming from near last on straightening for a flashing fourth. Begins well enough to make the most of this good draw and if Pike can stay within striking distance, Western Empire’s big engine should propel him to victory. Simply cannot fault Chantorque and you know she’ll get every opportunity on top of the speed. Just think Western Empire will nail her late. While fellow high-class fillies SNICKERDOODLEDANDY and MYSTICAL VIEW will land in the back half and be launching late.
Suggested: 5. WESTERN EMPIRE win.
5. WESTERN EMPIRE
10. MYSTICAL VIEW
Race 7 – 4:10PM GLENROY CHAFF – A.J. SCAHILL STAKES (1400 METRES)
A week after being narrowly denied Group 1 success in the Winterbottom Stakes, CELEBRITY QUEEN looks set to pick up a consolation prize in the Scahill Stakes. It was some performance in the $1 million sprint, coming from near last to fall a neck short, and the strength of that result suggests she’s ready for 1400m now. Pike hops back on for the first time this prep and with even luck Celebrity Queen should get it done. VALOUR ROAD was runner up in this race last year and has to be a major player again. Was bolting in the Winterbottom last week, but never really saw daylight in the straight. Stablemate FLIRTINI was back to her best in the Winterbottom and just needs to hold that peak to feature again, while KEMENTARI looks well placed and just needs an ounce of luck from the high draw.
Suggested: 10. CELEBRITY QUEEN win.
10. CELEBRITY QUEEN
4. VALOUR ROAD
Race 8 – 4:50PM PEOPLESTART – KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC (1800 METRES)
It’ll need to be perfectly executed, but the barrier draw has provided TOO CLOSE THE SUN an opportunity to deny superstar mare INSPIRATIONAL GIRL another Group 1 triumph. No match for her late surge in the Railway Stakes, natural on-pacer Too Close The Sun is suited up to 1800m and should have a decent head-start on his main rival. Ridden aggressively, Too Close The Sun may pinch it on the turn and cling to victory. Inspirational Girl could be the next big thing in Australian racing, coming off a turbo-charged Railway Stakes. Maps rearwards from this high draw, so will need another extraordinary Pike steer and we’ll see just how good this girl is. Lightly-weighted WATCH ME DANCE and DOM TO SHOOT get lovely maps from their respective draws and this WFA Classic is most definitely a race for 3YOs, while TRULY GREAT and CUP NIGHT are both capable of making an impact.
Suggested: 4. TOO CLOSE THE SUN win.
4. TOO CLOSE THE SUN
12. INSPIRATIONAL GIRL
16. WATCH ME DANCE
15. DOM TO SHOOT
11. TRULY GREAT
8. CUP NIGHT
Race 9 – 5:30PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
They rarely trial better than DARK MISSION did at Belmont 23/11 and Team Williams look to have this 4YO breathing fire ahead of her first-up assignment. Has had a few misfires along the way also so the jury is out, but she won impressively when kicking off her last campaign over 1200m and with an uninterrupted run underneath William Pike she’s likely to overwhelm her rivals late again. ANGELIC MISS continues to develop and looks well placed after carrying 59kg to a strong midweek win last start. Maps sweetly and has to rate highly. OCEAN’S FIFTEEN has performed well all campaign and has to be a factor, while BEAT THE BRO was a bit stiff when resuming at Bunbury and no surprise to see BABY BLUES run a bottler first up.
Suggested: 6. DARK MISSION win.
6. DARK MISSION
12. ANGELIC MISS
5. OCEAN’S FIFTEEN
9. BEAT THE BRO
2. BABY BLUES
