R1: ONSITE MINING EQUIPMENT MAIDEN 1200m
STORMY PRINCE (1): Five placings from fifteen starts. Last start was in a weak field at Norseman however endured pressure throughout and fought to the line. TINKER TAILOR (6): Yet to place from seven starts however will have the assistance of Randy Tan’s claim. First Up today in its easiest assignment to date. DARK ROYALTY (2): First start today where he is drawn well. Ran second in a 600m trial at the track where time was fair. Winkers on for the first start. MUSTALK (3): Much easier assignment today coming off a fifth at Bunbury. Had every favour in that run where taking the short way home and only plugging to the line.
RACE COMMENT: Overall a weak maiden with half the field first up or having their first run. SCREAMING LORDSUCH will be well in the market but his recent trial was only fair when plugging to line, note the blinkers were on that day. A tough race to start the day.
R2: KALGOORLIE REFRIGERATION MAIDEN 1100m
SAY WHAT (1): First start at the track coming off an Ascot midweek event where well beaten. Drops back in class significantly. Also drops back in distance where the galloper has been better performed. ANYWHERE ANYHOW (10): Full sister to the well performed provincial galloper Anywhere Express. Slow into stride last start and raced wide so put a line through that run. Has shown a good turn of foot. DARADALE (1): Interesting runner in the field coming over from Victoria. Proved competitive in maiden company over east and has placed first up. First start for former jockey now trainer Brett Matthews. SCARPER BAY (6): Finished off last season running some handy races in similar company. Gets in light in the weights with the 3kg claim.
RACE COMMENT: A collision of formlines, first ups and first starters makes it hard to line this field up. SAY WHAT looks the likely leader over the short course.
R3: ONSITE HIRE LEADERS SPRINT 1100m
PRIVATE BUSINESS (7): Lacklustre season last year after looking like he was Perth bound in season 2013. Trial on the 15/2 looked like he could be back to his best. Will be at each way odds. SASS’N’PING (1): Star performer last year before a freak accident in his yard caused the end of his preparation. Looked to be Hannans Handicap bound winning four of his past five starts. Did place first up last season so don’t let the first up record put you off. No trial going into this. RAFFERTY (2): Another first up today that looks to have claims. Is now down in the weights and has won first up previously. Looking for his first win on the circuit. TEMPESTUOUS STRIKE (9): Raced consistently in Esperance where lightly raced. Loves the short course and has drawn well for this event. Expect to be on pace.
RACE COMMENT: SASS’N’PING is arguably the best horse in the race with a good track record. The query lies with race fitness coming up against the others which have either been racing or have trialled. HUSSARS and SAXON COAST are well performed at the track over the short course and require some consideration.
R4: ONSITE JCM COMBINED HANDICAP 1200m
GREY JABIRU (5): Will start an each way chance. Put a line through his last run where he bungled the start. His first up run was promising and with a couple of runs under his belt he should be ready to strike. RIDDLE (3): Has developed into a nice type. Won three of his past four in Esperance over the 1100m. Drawn well and has the skillset of Ben Kennedy aboard which is a major plus. Should start favourite. ANYWHERE EXPRESS (4): Very talented type who has a good first up record. Ran third in the Provincial Championships last year at Belmont Park. Query is the distance. HALLOWELL FEVER (2): Ultra consistent type who finds it hard to win. The horse has ran twenty four placings and saluted four times from sixty one starts. Normally races on speed.
RACE COMMENT: Sparks will fly in this with an abundance of speed. RIDDLE has led at his past four starts where he has won three of them. He may not be left alone in front today with the likes of THE KEY CUTTER and LORD HATRAS.
R5: RADIOWEST’S WAKE UP WITH GLENNY HANDICAP 1200m
LET ME IMPRESS (3): First up today. Trial over the 600m at the track was good. Class One company today will suit. Expect Stent to push the three year old forward early on. RIBOTIQUE (9): Having its fourth start for the stable today. Forget the last run of her preparation last year where she had excuses. First up record is good. Expect a forward showing with gate two. MISS CORNINGSTONE (4): Had excuses last start when finishing behind her stablemate. Prior to that she won her maiden at Esperance in good fashion. Good record over the 1200m. PRO VOLK (12): Last run had merit when finishing close up after enduring pressure up front throughout. Place chance that should be at juicy odds.
RACE COMMENT: The race is lacking depth and hence should be an open market. Suggest you go wide with your Quaddies.
R6: ONSITE RENTAL GROUP HANDICAP 1100m
SAXAPAK (5): Last year was slightly disappointing after a good 2013 preparation. Trial on the 15/2 was encouraging when held together to win the heat. Should settle midfield and work home strong. FORMIDABLE STORM (6): Well performed at the track last year. Took her a while to break her maiden but is an each way chance in an open field. BEAR TRADER (8): Placed at big odds last start and a similar performance will see the Esperance galloper go close. Drawn to park behind the speed and work home nicely. MAHJONG SMILE (7): Got a confidence boost at Norseman last start when saluting by three quarters. He is another horse that had a disappointing prep last start and was thereabouts in Esperance without winning.
RACE COMMENT: Biggest field of the day. The race appears to lack on pace speed meaning the leading pack may get a soft first 600m. Suggest you include POPPIES FOR SPRING in your Quaddie as she has is known to be a Quaddie killer.
