R1 STAR AND GARTER HOTEL MAIDEN 1300m 1:00
A field of eight to kick us off on the Hotels Day Race Day. The David Smith trained SOFALA BRIDGE (1) gets his easiest assignment to date to break maiden status. The event seems to lack pace and this will suit the four year old galloper. Expect local hoop Eliza Finger to take the runner straight to the lead and prove hard to run down in the final stages. Leading trainer Peter Fernie has been firing of late with seven victories in the past two meetings. Fernie will be looking for another victory with KALBELIA (2) who will be third up today. The blinkers have been added for this run and Ben Kennedy will take over who has been in great form locally. Local trainer Trevor Tasker has MADAME CHOISIR (8) engaged in the event who finished close up last start. The Choisir filly will carry only 54.5kg with the claim of last year’s leading apprentice Emma Stent. SCARPER BAY (5) has been racing consistently in this type of company and has place claims in the field of eight.
R2 CRITERION HOTEL MAIDEN 1100m 1:38
The second event looks a headache for punters with the majority of runners finishing well back in recent starts. Local trainer Brett Mathews has acquired LEICA HUSSY (7) who has claims in the event. The daughter of Husson Lightning has placed on three occasions from nine career starts and will enjoy a drop in class today. Esperance galloper MANDATED (8) comes to Kalgoorlie today after five months away from the track. The Fiona Scott trained galloper finished second last start at Esperance when first up and looks to have claims in the nine horse field. First starter ZALWOOD (6) ran a fair trial at Lark Hill in October last year. The galloper is now in the hands of Neil Dellar who will combine with Shaun O’Donnell Jnr for the galloper’s first start today. Esperance trainer Helen Harding will start LIGHTNING LUCY (9) at the track today. The Due Sasso filly ran well at her debut when finishing fifth. Punters can expect improvement today from the galloper who will have a 3kg claim.
R3 ALBION HOTEL HANDICAP 1100m 2:18
The third of the day looks an interesting affair with only the eight gallopers engaged. The David Smith trained ASHANTI LASS (7) will carry the featherweight of 52.5kg from barrier three. Expect her to lead and be hard to run down with the 1100m looking to suit. The Helen Harding trained FOXY COMMANDER (3) has been racing well with recent runner-up performances at Albany and Kalgoorlie. The Commands mare has drawn the inside today. BOMBER BEL (5) is a galloper with an awesome turn of foot. Expect improvement second up. HALLOWELL FEVER (4) has been racing consistently well and is a strong place chance.
R4 TOWER HOTEL HANDICAP 1400m 2:53
The first leg of the Quaddie is a wide open affair. The Patrick Bermingham Jnr trained KIM DYNASTY (12) looks well placed in this field based on recent efforts. Tash Faithfull will partner the five year old from barrier one. The Dave Smith trained JETCETERA (2) is well performed on the Kalgoorlie circuit with four wins and four placings from twelve starts at the track. Six year old SMART AS A FOX (5) has finished close up at his past couple of starts and represents value. Apprentice Randy Tan will ride the Blackfriars gelding claiming three kilograms. ATHELI (8) represents some value with a couple of runs under her belt.
R5: GALA TAVERN HANDICAP 3:30 1600m
Another big field greets punters in the fifth event. Five year old CASINO GLEAM (4) has drawn an ideal barrier today and will appreciate the claim of Emma Stent. The mile looks to suit the Casino Prince gelding who possesses a good record at the track. SMALL AND SPICY (1) has returned in good form this preparation with two placings at his two runs this time in. Look for the galloper to be doing his best work late. DARADALE (2) has proved to be a good purchase for connections. The son of Elvstroem has barrier twelve to overcome but he appears to have an abundance of talent. BONAVENTURE (3) has been racing well and will have the services of Ben Kennedy.
R6 GOLD BAR SPRINT 1200m 4:00
The sixth is the open class event on the card with an impressive field engaged. The Peter Fernie trained AKHEDASSET (1) ran in emphatic style last start when defeating his rivals by three lengths. Shaun O’Donnell Jnr will partner the six year old once again who will most likely look for the lead early on. COMANCHE RED (2) finished fourth last start when coming from well back on the turn. Expect a forward showing with the galloper drawing closer to the rail today. The Gary Bowen trained PRIVATE BUSINESS (3) was unfortunate last start when knuckling over at the start causing regular rider Tash Faithfull to lose her irons. The Key Business gelding will drop back to the 1200m today where he has won twice before. HUSSATION (5) has been racing consistently in this company and is well weighted in this event. Expect Jerry Noske to try and settle the galloper just behind the pace in running.
R7 PICCADILLY HOTEL HANDICAP 1200m 4:35
The last of the day has a capacity field of fourteen engaged. The Merv Dellar trained DEVOTIVE (9) was dominant in his victory last start when defeating a similar field to that of today. The galloper has drawn barrier three today and should enjoy a gun run behind the pace ready to strike at the top of the straight. BUTTERFLY KISS (7) will have its first run for local trainer Gary Bowen today. The Myboycharlie mare has saluted twice before over the short course and will appreciate the claim of Jordan Turner today. Last start maiden winner TAHGEO JAY (4) has been acquired by local trainer Peter Fernie. Expect another strong effort with Ben Kennedy aboard. STARTING OVER (10) ran well when resuming last start. The Nadeem gelding has saluted second up before and is worth keeping safe in your novelties.
