The Group 3 A.J Scahill Stakes was taken out by Arcadia Prince, the full -brother to WA’s current Queen of the turf, Arcadia Queen. Both by Coolmore Stud’s Pierro. The win of Arcadia Prince took Pierro’s stakes winners to 13 and 10 stakes-placed.

Local honours again went to Scenic Lodge’s Universal Ruler who picked up a double on the day.

The first was the 3YO filly Angelic Ruler, who notched up her third win from only six starts, Her first-up performance yesterday was all class coming from last at the 400 metres, five wide turning into the straight and produced a powerful finish to win going away from the field.

Universal Ruler’s second winner was the 5YO gelding Snow Lord, making this his sixth win from 23 starts and prize money and bonuses of $275,700.

As we have mentioned previously, Univeral Ruler represents good value at $4,950. He is the sire of 116 progeny to race for 55 winners (47.0%), with earnings of over $6.1 million, which includes 5 stakes winners and 3 stakes-placed gallopers.

Double Digit’s win in the benchmark 72 + over 1500 metres highlights the value of buying WA bred yearlings. Connections paid $10,000 for the son of Taunton Vale’s Demerit. Bred by Alwyn Park Stud, he has won 8 races and picked up $210,630 in prize money and bonuses so far with more to come.

A full brother to Double Digit will be offered at 2019 Perth Magic Millions Sales in February.
