Saturday’s Ascot winners on breeding

All honours on the day must go to Coolmore Stud’s Pierro, the sire of the 3YO filly Arcadia Queen, who looks to be one out of the box.

A homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters, Arcadia Queen continued the dominance of WA stakes events by the Peters family.

Arcadia Queen’s win gives Pierro his third Group 1 winner. Pierro was the leading first season sire 2016-17 and boats a record of 193 progeny to race for 104 winners (53%), earnings of $9.5 million, 12 stakes winners and 10 stakes-placed.

Pierro stood this season for $88,000.

Local honours went to Scenic Lodges’ Universal Ruler with a double including the $100,000 Sir Ernest Lee – Steere Stakes, won by his progressive 3YO son The Velvet King.

Universal Ruler stood for $4,950 this season which represents great value for a young stallion that can produce stakes performers.
