Saturday’s Ascot winners on breeding


Three stake races at Ascot yesterday with Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes going to Eastern States based stallion Hard Spun.

Scenic Lodge’s Universal Ruler added another stakes winner with the impressive victory of The Velvet King in the Listed Fairetha Stakes for three-year-olds.

A big day for the talented and underrated trainer Darren Mc Auliffe, trainer of Gatting and The Velvet King.

Universal Ruler has had a big week with Lady Cosmology winning the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes on Melbourne Cup day. His record now stands at 112 to race for 55 winners (49%), earning $6.1 million in prize money and has sired 5 stakes winners and 3 stakes placed performers.

Five local stallions produced winners on the day.
