Saturday’s Ascot winners on breeding


Universal Ruler’s grand sprinter Rebel King notched up his 12th win in taking out the $100,000 Cyril Flower Stakes at Ascot yesterday, making it his 4th win at Listed level. The Darren Mc Auliffe trained 7YO gelding takes his prize money to $857,275 from 46 starts and is good ambassador for his sire.

Universal Ruler, stands at Scenic Lodge and will be represented by four yearlings at the Perth Magic Millions Sales to be held at the new Swan Valley Sales complex this Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 February. He entered stud in 2010 and has had 120 progeny to race for 59 winners (49%), including 6 stakes winners and 3 stakes placegetters, and over $7.7 million in prize money.

The $100,000 Listed Challenge Stakes was won by the Peters Investments bred Creative Hero, a three-year-old by champion stallion More Than Ready out of the Bianconi mare Imaginative.

Four local stallions had winners on the day – Universal Ruler (Scenic Lodge), Vital Equine (Yarradale), Demerit (Taunton Vale) and Patronize (Darling View).
