William Pike has added to his remarkable statistic on bolter Roman Knows, taking his tally to five wins from six rides on the six year old gelding.
Prepared first up without a trial, Russell Stewart had only previously had the galloper for four starts coming into today’s race, but without impact.
“He’s a trier, when you’ve got him right, he’s always around the mark” said Stewart after the race.
The Carlton Draught handicap over 1000 metres changed complexion multiple times, with Regal Romp surrendering a handy lead, with inside finishers appearing the most likely. Pike guided his spirit animal through the inside, along with Coruscation and Madam Sass whom finished together, with Jestpatim claiming third.
Roman Knows won in 59.74 and a by a length, taking his career tally to nine wins from 32 starts.
