Racing is increasingly likely to continue despite tough new COVID restrictions announced by the Victorian State government.
Racing.com understands that at this stage, racing across Victoria will remain as it is under COVID guidelines, largely thanks to the tough health protocols already in place by Racing Victoria.
The protocols are some of the toughest for a workplace possible and have ensured racing has continued throughout 2020. Crowds and owners are banned from courses and only few participants are allowed on course.
The state government today announced tough new social measures aimed to reduce case numbers, including tough curfews and travel restrictions.
It’s expected more details around racing will be addressed by the state government tomorrow, when measures around workplaces are addressed.
It could be a significant relief for RV and clubs with the start of the Spring Carnival just weeks away.
Racing Victoria has since issued a statement, saying it will be business as usual.
“Until otherwise advised, racing and training is continuing under the strict biosecurity protocols that have safely guided the Victorian racing industry throughout the past four-and-a-half months without a COVID-19 case,” it said.
“As advised by the Premier today, the Government will make a further announcement tomorrow regarding any changes to its directives around places of work. RV will await that announcement before providing an update to the industry.”
