Race Meetings Update Due to Hot Weather Forecasts

Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) advises that due to the extreme hot weather conditions forecasted for the wheatbelt region, the following changes have been made to scheduled race meetings within the area:

  • The start time for the Northam Harness Racing Club’s race meeting on Tuesday 3 December, will be delayed, with the meeting now commencing at 5.21pm.
  • Northam Race Club’s race meeting on Thursday 5 December, will be relocated to Ascot Racecourse.

The safety and welfare of racing animals and industry participants is of paramount concern and RWWA has well established hot weather policies that ensure the proper management of extreme weather conditions.

Stewards will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and will implement RWWA’s hot weather policies as required, including limiting the time participants and animals are exposed to the sun by shorter parade times and other changes to standard procedures designed to lessen exposure.
