Saturday’s Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) has been touted as a race in two.
TAB markets leans that way with Galaxy Star at $2.60 and Rock Magic $3.10.
On the third line of betting is Electric Light ($6) from leading trainer Adam Durant’s-team.
The talented mare has won eight of 13 races and last Sunday week ran a cracking second to Rock Magic in the Group 3 Northam Stakes (1100m).
Despite Electric Light meeting the classy Rock Magic 2kg worse off and the return of Group 1 champion, Galaxy Star, Durrant has high hopes of victory.
He cautions punters not to underestimate Electric Light and believes she is capable of spoiling the party for the two warm favourites.
“I thought it was career-best effort the other day at Northam,” Durrant said.
“She broke the trend of the day by coming from back and hitting the line.
“If she hadn’t copped the clutter on the corner she wins the race.
“But there is a weight turn around to Rock Magic and he is a real class horse.
“And obviously the Railway Stakes winner (Galaxy Star) is a top liner.”
Durrant said he was banking on Electric Light maximising her position in the middle of the ten horse Roma Cup line up.
With Rock Magic to jump from the outside gate and Galaxy Star in barrier seven, he thinks Electric Light can pinch an advantage.
“Where we’re going to be compared to the two main chances will give us the best chance of winning the race,” Durrant said.
“They are going to be back and giving us a head start this time and if the track is playing on pace they won’t be going out wide.
“With the rail on the inside they will be looking for holes to go through and if you are doing that you are going to need a lot of luck.
“Hopefully they get no luck and we get lots of luck.”
Jockey Peter Knuckey, who won the Roma Cup previously aboard Power Princess (2013), partners Electric Light.
