At first sight this writer thought that Gannon’s were making colours to be used in a Gay Mardi Gras parade.
Gannon’s always have colourful store, at Ascot and Belmont racetracks, and the additional display of the new rainbow colours is the centre piece of the shop.
Val and Peter Gannon are using the colours for promotional purposes to highlight the fact that racing colours are now being manufactured in WA.
In addition the four major provincial clubs-Pinjarra, Bunbury, Northam and Kalgoorlie- have signed on to use these colours as the primary emergency club colours.
Club colours are worn when the connections of a horse forget to bring their colours to the track.
This writer has always thought that any owner that wins a race in the club colours is being short changed as they are usually pretty ordinary……..drab in fact.
That charge could never be levelled at the Gannon’s Fan Fair Racing Colours. The brightness of the colours would also be a race-callers and photographers delight.
The colours will be used by an international jockey at Bunbury’s Autumn Racing Carnival which includes a State of Origin invitational jockeys race.
Perth Racing would do well to consider such club colours for racing in the metropolitan area as the existing strip does not really ‘cut the mustard’.
