Gangemi Hoping To Buck The Odds In Farnley Stakes

Chris Gangemi hopes he can buck the odds and win his second Farnley Stakes (1400m) at Belmont on Saturday.

Gangemi is backing in Disposition and Saracino to revive fond memories of when stable star Rock Magic won the Listed race in 2014.

Disposition has yet to win for Gangemi since the Bullsbrook trainer outplayed $45,000 for the Reset gelding at the Perth Autumn sale.

A five-time stakes winner for previous trainers Grant and Alana Williams and Adam Durrant, Disposition last saluted the judge in the 2017 Hannan’s Handicap (1400m) in Kalgoorlie.

Gangemi is banking on a gear change to help inspire a lift in performance from Disposition after two runs back in Listed company this campaign.

He finished fourth to Great Again in the Belmont Newmarket (1200m) and filled the same placing against the same horse in the Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m).

Disposition carries 59kg for jockey Jarrad Noske. In a field of 12 runners he has drawn barrier five.

He is rated $21 with Tabtouch.

“We have put the blinkers on Disposition, he just hasn’t been attacking the line,” Gangemi said on Tabradio.

“Ever since we got him he has been running nice races, but just not really finishing off things.

“He loomed up to win or run second the other day, but didn’t attack the line at all.”

Saracino is also out to strike his first win since teaming up with the Gangemi stable last year

The Per Incanto gelding showed a stack of promise early in his career when he won three Group 2 races in New Zealand and Melbourne.

The now six-year-old drops 4.5kg after his last-start fourth to Don’t Fuss over 1000m at Belmont a fortnight ago.

“I think over the 1400m might suit,” Gangemi said.

“He has run a couple of good races over a 1000m.

“He has won most of his races, albeit quite a while ago, over 1400m.

“If he can find the front over 1400m and relax, hopefully down in the weights he can run a nice race.”

Saracino, on the 54kg minimum, will jump from barrier eight. To be ridden by Jordan Turner, he is rate a $15 chance with Tabtouch.
