Local trainer Dennis Barker has stepped Emerald And Gold up to the 1900m trip at York tomorrow in an attempt to bring forward a trifecta of victories for the filly.
The daughter of Blackfriars took a few runs to find its feet, but Barker has unraveled the talent from within his promising stayer and been rewarded with two recent barnstorming wins since.
The genuine “run on” type broke its maiden status in style early last month – storming home from last to swamp a handy group of youngsters over the 1500m to win by 1 ½ lengths – recording a fast 34.99 sec final sectional in the process.
To prove it was no fluke, Emerald And Gold repeated the dosage at Northam last start over the mile when claiming Grand Odyssey and Apache Rockin the last stride after rocketing home from the rear of the field.
Lisa Staples retains the ride for tomorrow’s assignment, and will commence from barrier seven.
Barker’s only other runner for the day is Super Friared in the Saunders Produce Maiden 1500m.
Yet to win at 14 attempts, the Blackfriars 5yo had shown promise earlier in its career for previous trainer Joe Miller, but Barker will have to pull out some magic tricks here if his recently acquired conveyance is to improve on its disappointing 8 ¼ length tenth to Queen Of Tease when resuming for its new stable.
