An exciting conclusion to this year’s $120,000 Listed Bunbury Cup 2200m saw raging favourite Tick Tick Bloom ($2.50) salute for Adam Durrant in a very tight go.
Sent rearward early in proceedings by William Pike, the daughter of Viscount travelled well throughout before coming to the final turn where she was pushed wide and copped a nice check.
With few winners on the day coming from back in the field, Pike was able to balance up Tick Tick Bloom inside the final 250m, before digging in deep to score the feature by a mere long head.
Run of the race Global Flirt ($31.00) with Lucy Warwick in the saddle kept coming at the public fancy, only to fall short in the shadows of the post.
It was the second Bunbury feature win in as many weeks for the 4yo mare, having collected the AHA Cup 2019m in less pressing circumstances.
The luckless Cup result was rewarded for Warwick however, picking up a double aboard Satan’s Dancer ($2.30 fav) for father Justin and Whataplan ($4.40) for Brett Pope.
Riding doubles were also picked up by former apprentice of the year Kyra Yuill who won the first two on the card with Makaties Keeper ($15.20) for local trainer Bruce Watkins, and Lannigan ($3.80) prepared by Vivienne Ferrier, while former Geraldton hoop Dom Tourneur piloted to victory Quite Regal ($3.70) for Adam Durrant and Lady Natesa ($2.60 fav) for Ben Pearce.
