Karnup trainer Darryn Pateman will be looking to take advantage of the longer Pinjarra straight tomorrow, as he steps his New Approach 4yo Common Approach ($4.60) up over the 1400m journey in the Join The 100 Club BM60+ HCP.
Renowned for its inconsistent starting manner, Pateman’s gelding has had three runs this time in over the 1200m trip at Bunbury and Ascot – the second of which saw a blistering late charge to claim third from a near impossible position after clearly missing the start.
Common Approach commenced well and was competitive in its most recent outing when finishing off nicely behind She’s A Virtue – getting within three lengths and obviously looking for more ground.
It has been a mixed few weeks for the Pateman stable since scoring a double at Narrogin on Australia Day when Marcamjo (who will also run tomorrow in the last) broke its maiden status and Mc Are careered home late to win in a tight go.
Mitchell Pateman retains the ride from barrier ten, and will be appreciating the drop in class for tomorrow’s assignment.
Pateman (jr) has had a solid 2014/15 season in the saddle with 25 winning rides across the metro and provincial circuits at a strike rate of 11%.
Later on the card, impressive last start maiden victor Frangipani Monster ($4.00) for Jessica Valas is another having to contend with a wide gate tomorrow having drawn widest (16) in the Tuckeys Mitre 10 Pinjarra & Mandurah HCP 2000m.
Driving to the line from eighth at Narrogin a fortnight ago, the Vital Equine mare did not let punters down – letting down well to record a dominant 1 ¼ length win over 1720m as the raging $1.55 public elect.
William Pike will again take the ride.
