Vaughn Sigley has prepared star sprinter Dawn Approach to perfection, winning the $100,000 Mungrup Stud Sprint with a brilliant lead and win performance. The win continues an excellent sequence for Sigley and a remarkable summer for the MacAlister family.
Ridden by Takahide Ikenushi for the first time, the horse was settled comfortably in the lead, holding the challengers at a measured distance. As the opposition loomed to run over Dawn Approach in the straight, Ikenushi got the most out of the four year old gelding, winning by just under a length.
Winning his sixth race, the product of Statue Of Liberty claimed the biggest victory of his career, edging towards an impressive $300,000 in prize money from just 17 starts.
The ultra-consistent Rebelson put in bravely again, grabbing second despite carrying 58.5 kilograms, finishing just ahead of race favourite Vengabus, who was caught wide for a good portion. Local galloper Le Sacre was excellent in fourth, although on the line appeared to have finished on the podium, but connections were satisfied after viewing the film.
Dawn Approach won in 1.16.89 at his first attempt above 1200 metres.
