War Chant filly Chantski has won the group three Gimcrack Stakes at Ascot, in a brilliantly settled ride by apprentice Jerry Noske, defeating bolter Mystic Maid in a thriller.
After a narrow defeat last start to London Line, Jerry Noske place her mount beautifully on-speed, forcing race favourite Military Reign to navigate around the field, trapped three wide for the majority.
“I’m just so happy for Jerry (Noske), she outrode the state’s best rider and rode an absolute ripper of the race, getting it done in the end” said Dion Luciani, breaking through winning his first group race as a trainer outright.
David Harrison’s Mystic Maid almost spoiled the party for the favourites, looming to run down Chantski, but ultimately couldn’t wear the winner down. Swooper Showy Chloe looked a likely winner at one point, but ceased on her late finish.
Chantski has now won two from four career starts, winning in 1.06.06 and by a short neck.
