Jockey Patrick Carbery has struck winning form ahead of Saturday’s Listed Raconteur Stakes at Ascot (1500m), where he teams up with the progressive Cup Night.
Carbery scored a winning double at Ascot yesterday, where he teamed up with Early Explorer and Stirling Estate.
While one three-year-old Early Explorer heads to the paddock off the back of his win yesterday, another one in Cup Night gets his chance to record his first blacktype win on Saturday.
The Bernie Miller-trained gelding has made an impressive return to racing this campaign, winning his two starts over 1200m and 1400m on March 16 and 30 respectively.
Cup Night was given two chances at blacktype level during the spring and summer period, both of which resulted in unplaced efforts.
Carbery said it wouldn’t be an easy task for Cup Night this weekend, but was confident he would give a strong account of himself.
“He’s continued to please well since his last run,” he told The Races WA.
“He hasn’t gone backwards at all.
“He’s really bright and has pretty much done similar work and maybe even a bit longer work than he has done previous.
“There’s a couple of bit better horses in it this week.
“Bernie is doing a great job with him and ticking him over nicely.”
Cup Night will jump from barrier two in the seven horse field and has the topweight of 56.5kg.
TABtouch has installed the Maschino gelding a $2.50 favourite ahead of Altani ($4.50), Shuwish ($6), Rebel Knight ($6) and Final Hearing ($6.50).
Carbery also has the ride on smart filly Double Bubble in the Penfolds Handicap, where she will be looking to make it two wins from three starts this campaign.
Meanwhile, Regal Power has continued to receive heavy support for the Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m), with the Grant and Alana Williams-trained gelding now a $1.65 favourite to take out the feature.
