A couple of selections today before getting into the CT horses;
Naracoorte Cup R7#7 SPANISH VIXEN seems very good value @ $8 Tattsbet given it won a Mares BM84 race at this distance at M/Valley 3 starts back. That day it carried 55 kg and won by 2L, and today it has 52.5kg after the claim. It has won 3 of its last 4 runs at this distance and last year came off a run in the same race last start (Great Western Cup) to win the Ararat Hall Gap cup very easily at this trip. Ignore it’s last run when stewards queried and the prior run was on wet ground which it doesn’t like. The negative for me is a 3kg claiming female apprentice, given it could win this race with the originally allocated weight. A good ride surely sees it go close. WOAKWINE the saver material. It should definitely have won last start after being 3 wide throughout, and the winner got a dream run through on the inside, and can’t beat it at the weights today. 2000m is a slight query for Woakwine though and it gives SV 6kg today. Don’t want to see any rain for the top pick though (Weather overcast?).
CT Horses; Frisky Terror – Ballina R3 No.1 (1000m): CT 0.5L 2nd Charlie Cat Grafton C1 4/07. Time and last 600m very notable compared to Open race and big 5.8L gap to 3rd.
Gets his chance but has been a bit of an enigma. Can win if he beats Screaming Jet in a race with little depth. Horses can improve rapidly 2nd up.
On The Rebound – Naracoorte R3 No.5 (1200m): 2.5L CT 2nd Royal Spinner Penola 1100m (64) 8/01. Clearly faster than BM80.3L to 3rd.
Horribly disappointing last start and might need a wet track as was CT effort. Jockey has ridden it 3 times and hasn’t got closer than 7L from the winner on each occasion. Why oh why would you go with him again? Having said that this is a very, very weak race and Royal Spinner (CT Blackbook race) has gone on with it.
Snow Jewel – Naracoorte R5 No.3 (1000m): CT 2yo Mdn winner Mt.Gambier 27/03. Nearly 1 second faster than RST58 winning by 3.8L.
Very promising mare but not sure what has happened to her to necessitate a 10 month break. Probably the best of these today if everything is okay with her injury wise.
Sunday Escape – Sale R5 No.2 (1005m): 0.4L CT 2nd O’Malley Sandown Hillside RST64 2/07. 3.3L to 3rd.
Should improve on first up effort and looks a decent chance. $2.10 a bit short for my liking though.
Trevinder – Sale R7 No.12 (1205m): 0.1L 2nd Hard Hat Sale 1000m 2yo Mdn 21/07. Best adjusted time of day and PAR 4.2L back in 4th.
I was going to tip him yesterday at Sandown 1000m but saved for this at 1200m with the distance a bit of a query. He might be looking for it though and has won at 1100m. No luck at all this preparation in 2 starts caught wide both occasions. Drawn to advantage but meets stiff opposition from Magnus Lad (former CT come good) & Edgewood who both have good formlines. Race doesn’t end there and need better than $4 imo.
